'Someone' has eaten uncooked fish fingers...

I have discovered an empty packet of 10 frozen Birds Eye Cod Fish Fingers. Because of who was at home at the time, either a young DC or the cat, or both of them together, must have eaten them. Obviously neither of them can tell me who, but the way the cardboard box is ripped looks like the DC has opened it rather than the cat. I don't know if the DC opened and ate them, the DC opened but the cat ate them, or the DC opened and they shared them. The packet had been out of a freezer for a couple of hours, so would have been softer than frozen, but hadn't yet been cooked. I am worried about the health implications - for example food poisoning, upset stomachs or worse, although I imagine freezing would have killed any parasites and bacteria? - and searching online hasn't provided anything helpful. Any medics or others with relevant experience who can advise please?

Many thanks in advance.

Thank you Cotton, and especially Back - that's very reassuring to know! I agree, Ginger, as in a pp it must have been DC who opened the pack. Our cat is a bit like the dog in being an efficient food hoover.

I'm pleased to report that we've finally had 'movement' on the DC front. Without giving TMI, it wasn't nice and it wasn't pleasant, and it was decidedly fishy, but neither was it too bad either. I think we can safely say all's well and we'll live to learn and fight another day. Thanks again to everyone who understood our little worrying and perplexing possible calamity, and tried to help, reassure, support and entertain me along the way. I'm not sure I want to see another FF for a while!

I too must be a terrible mother who leaves her kids alone as my 3 year old has broke into the freezer whilst I was upstairs running his bath and I've found the remnants of a fish finger 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Not fish finger related but this has massively soothed some of my cat anxiety today - they are more resilient than they look, clearly!

That light frying cooks them - we had a deep fat fryer and used to batter and cook cod cheeks for Kung po as a kid, literally takes a minute if that and they’re not flat like a fish finger.

Blatant placemark incase anything else happens

@Stugglingonagain if anything happened it happened a long long time ago...

Birdseye fish fingers ARE NOT PRE-COOKED.It says on the packet" contains uncooked fish".

Hi,
I'm 8months pregnant, and just had a fish finder sandwich for my lunch. Just noticed that the Waitrose fish fingers were undercooked... Now I'm worried about it.
Due anyone know that they already pre cooked?

You might want to start your own thread.

Thank you for letting me know, I noticed that I posted on someone else's post... But couldn't figure out how to delete it. Anyway thanks!

My DS has eaten a frozen fish finger with no ill effects. He was in an absolute temper as I couldn't cook them quickly enough for his liking (he was only two!) and took one from the box on the side whilst I was looking at the others cooking on the grill. So one frozen fish finger didn't seem to cause any issues, can't speak for ten Grin

I've eaten a frozen fish finger. Don't know why really, I think I thought it looked nice being all golden and crumby.
Anyway that was 30 years ago and so far no ill effects - let's see what tomorrow brings...

Even if op's ff were pre cooked they are well out of date now I reckon...

They are not precooked. But sushi isn't dangerous and that's raw fish.

The Anisakis worm is a parasite that can cause nasty infections in humans who enjoy eating raw fish. It is 2 cm long and is sometimes coughed up after ingesting it in raw or undercooked fish.

ZOMBIE

The fish fingers were consumed in 2019.
