Ds has to have a biopsy tomorrow and this is one of the possibilities. He is only 14 months and apart from 3 lumps in his jowls seems totally fine.

Tutter · 16/07/2007 19:54

sorry you're having to deal with all this to-ing, fro-ing and waiting, shopping

give ds an extra squeeze from me

hang in there - hoping for good news for you after the scan tomorrow x

coddy · 16/07/2007 19:58

hey but she did say at the speicalist hosp the chef came ot ak her hwat to cook for ds!!

deaconblue · 16/07/2007 20:00

nice chef. I thought we were going to be admitted so didn't take any lunch for ds so chef appeared in day centre thing and made him mince, mash and veg and squished it up for the tricky little lump rejector. He thinks he's won the lottery, keeps being taken to new places with thousands of toys every day.

SIL had it - there are a couple of good sites which you will find through googling - will send links if you like.

One of the most reassuring things anyone said to us was this (am repeating it even though it doesn't actually sound reassuring because it helped us)

of all the things to get - this is one of the better things to get - massive strides have been made in diagnosing and treating it

SIL had one of the indolent forms which responded well to chemo - touch wood

rabbitrabbit · 16/07/2007 20:07

Shoppingbags, I'm so sorry to hear this. My ds is ill also and we were recently told it could be lymphoma related; he is soooo sick of hospitals and we still have blood tests and ultrasounds next week.
Ds is four and I'm full of admiration for you over how you're coping with this situation in a 14mth old-I'm not sure I would have coped so well back then. I wish for your ds what I wish for my own; that they overcome whatever may be making them ill and grow up to become the lovely men I'm confident they can be. I hope you get good news soon xx

coddy · 16/07/2007 20:12

aah great advice all

JoolsToo · 16/07/2007 20:14

I could have sworn I posted earlier but can't see it so I'll repeat mesen.

ds2 had a lump when he was little - turned out to be tonsilitus but boy, I was worried there for a while.
I'm guessing stuff like that has been ruled out already but I do hope you get good news and all is well.

chocolatedot · 16/07/2007 20:36

My sister has had it twice. Had to have a massive dose of chemo second time around which really hit hard. She has however made a fullrecovery. Best of luck.

deaconblue · 17/07/2007 10:47

rabbitrabbit, it is awful isn't it? I think it's maybe easier coping with a baby rather than a 4 year old as he hasn't got a clue anything is going on really, he just thinks he's got new places to play. Waiting is hard too, but lots of these tests need to grow cultures so they just can't get them back to us any quicker. I woke up yesterday morning with "I can see clearly now the rain has gone, I can see all obstacles in my way" in my head and have adopted it as my mantra for the next few weeks. We'll meet the obstacles head on and get on with it. More after the ultra sound this afternoon, if I know anything new.

Any news?

Mercy · 17/07/2007 18:14

bump

deaconblue · 17/07/2007 19:22

Ultra sound went ok, he hasn't got any lumps in his abdomen which is a relief. They couldn't tell from looking at his lumps in his neck whether they are behaving as normal infected nodes or as lymphoma nodes. The only way they can now tell for sure is with a biopsy which will be next week. The blood tests they did yesterday didn't show anything. So at least if he has got lymphoma it's only been symptomatic for 2 weeks and it hasn't spread at all.

coddy · 17/07/2007 19:22

SO HWO DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEL SB?

deaconblue · 17/07/2007 19:38

dunno really. Still at the back of my mind I think he's got lymphoma but I feel much calmer about that possibility/probability now that I know there is such a high cure rate. Would be so wonderful if he just had some nasty old bug. Just have to wait now and keep everything crossed

OP posts:
hippiPOTTERami · 17/07/2007 19:52

oh shopping, sorry to hear you are still no further.

I really really hope it is just a nasty bug!

My sister had a lump come up in her neck two weeks ago. They did blood tests (two of them on different weeks), ultrasound and chest x-ray. All clear so they have decided it is some weirdy unknown bug. I really hope it will be the same for your ds.

Stay strong.
xx

Tamum · 17/07/2007 20:00

Oh shopping, how hard to have to live with all this uncertainty. I am going on holiday next week, will have to find a way of checking to see how you're doing. It's so curable, but it would just all be so much nicer if it was an infection, wouldn't it.

Trying not to smile at coddy bellowing HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL in the manner of a TV interviewer....

coddy · 17/07/2007 20:01

ah sb sorry itwasnt hte all clear.

coddy · 17/07/2007 20:01

Tamum · 17/07/2007 20:07

Ah, that's alright then

BBBBasilisk · 17/07/2007 20:15

hi shopping

best wishes to you and your ds.

A lovely friend of mine had non-hodgkins a couple of years ago - she was 40. she had the treatment and is now all clear. Treatment has advanced so much lately nad the stuff she had done was completely mind blowing (in my crude understadning of science!)

She is fab - we are going out for a drink - she has not been left with a huge fglwoing regard for her health (thank god).

I really hope that you don't need these success stories and other explantions prevail, but if you do there's lots of good ones.

If he is sick of hospitals just shout on mumsnet and we will all send him ridiculous postcards and stickers - I love doing that stuff.

Best wishes.

deaconblue · 17/07/2007 20:22

He would LOVE some ridiculous postcards etc, is obsessed with sticking stuff on the fridge and yanking it off again. Have to wait for them to phone me with biopsy appointment. I expect they will ring tomorrow as have been pretty effecient so far. Little sweetie had a lovely time in his ultrasound, they had dolphins and fish spinning on the ceiling in a light show thing and I sang songs right into his ear and stroked his hair to keep him still. Trouble is we always clap at the end of a song so had to hold his hands to stop him clapping and wriggling

BBBBasilisk · 17/07/2007 20:29

I like him - he sounds sweet.

If you want some silly stuff sent to him my email is dimpled thighs at hotmail dot com

would be more than happy to pop something in the post

deaconblue · 17/07/2007 20:33

I like him too, tis a nutter
