I can smell a horrid smell but others cant

What is this? It's like gone off milk but I'm the only one who can smell it. There was a post in the menopause threads with a similar thing but thought I'd ask here. Dr Google says a number of things including a brain tumour 😳
Any suggestions? Could it be hormonal?

I used to have a colleague who could smell something if a migraine was brewing.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 16/04/2019 23:06

Sinus infection
Aura/migraine/seizure
Something on the collar of your coat/in your hair/under your seat in the sitting room

MummaPI · 16/04/2019 23:10

It happens in various places so I cant single it out to one spot. I dont think it's me. It's very random

You need to see your GP.

Sarcelle · 16/04/2019 23:19

Sinuses or fungal nose infection.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 16/04/2019 23:20

Or tonsil stones

MummaPI · 16/04/2019 23:27

Wouldn't those issues above make me feel ill? I'm fine

Why do I need to see a gp end?

OP posts:
Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 16/04/2019 23:45

Because you may have one of the myriad of lurgies suggested.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 16/04/2019 23:54

Any chance you are pregnant?

With dd my first sign was feeling sick at the “awful smell” when I opened the fridge.

(With ds it was the bordering on hysterical tears of joy when some no-hoper with a sob story made it through on the X factor!)

Samind · 16/04/2019 23:56

I'd say nasal issue or dentist needed. Hope you get answers!

GoodMorningSunshine · 16/04/2019 23:56

My first ever 'painless' sinus infection went undetected for a while, but I could smell horrendous burning!

MenuPlant · 16/04/2019 23:57

Pregnant?

Are the ones who can't smell it men? Their sense of smell is apparently not so good. I always spot eg bin is getting whiffy or over ripe cheese in fridge before DH.

MsChicken · 17/04/2019 00:05

Sinus infection? It smelt like there was a dead mouse in my nose. Or pregnant.

MummaPI · 17/04/2019 00:11

Defo not preggers, hubby had the snip!

Had this problem a few years ago. I didn't think much of it until I happened to consult dr Google who promptly suggested the brain tumour! I didn't have it checked properly apart from a visit to the opticians who couldn't find any abnormality. The weird smell faded very gradually over months but my sense of smell was less sharp after that. I never found out what it was or what caused it.

OldWomanSaysThis · 17/04/2019 02:06

People who take fish oil pills have a funk about them.

I had an episode where I could smell cigarette smoke everywhere. Went to the doctor and he said it was due to an allergic response. Antihistamines and Beconase sorted me out. Dr Google told me that I'd got a brain tumour too! Go to the doctor and get it sorted, OP - phantom smells aren't pleasant!

NGC2017 · 17/04/2019 09:10

My experience is similar to @SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo. Lovely google made me fear the worse, the issue was with my sinuses. As it went on for so long I had to be referred. I had smells of smoke and really smelly feet. The smelly feet actually upset me as I worried I actually smelt like it! I remember crying to him about a brain tumor. Antihistamines and Beconase helped me.

MummaPI · 17/04/2019 09:12

Thanks all for your replies, I'll visit the gp.

I know i’ve got a sinus infection as I can smell mouldy cheese.

MummaPI · 17/04/2019 16:06

Is it your only symptom? I have no pain or snottiness!

I keep smelling cigarette smoke! It has been going on for a couple of months. I was too afraid to see the dr because google said it was a brain tumour Grin I will pick some stuff up from the chemist and see if it resolves. Did the dr say why the sudden allergic response? I mean, if you’ve never had it before then, in your 40’s it suddenly starts, that is a bit odd Confused

Hope you get yours sorted op.

danahnahnahnah · 17/04/2019 17:00

This is my number one pregnancy symptom, so I wonder if it's hormonal?

LaBarbera · 17/04/2019 17:04

I get a lot of sinus infections, and when they're brewing I become absolutely convinced I smell of rotting vegetation. Stress also makes me hypersensitive to smell, which is SUPER helpful, since I am terrified of smelling bad! Definitely get the sinuses checked out, OP.
