Good evening lacies Glitterball and welcome to another thread. We filled the previous one rather quickly with dog stories Grin

Hello to any new posters. Feel free to join us if you've got any sort of cancer, or if you're waiting to find out if you have it. We are always happy to share our experience and hold hands, and even happier when we get to wave goodbye to people who have had the all clear :) (please do come back and let us know either way - sometimes people just disappear into the sunset, leaving us wondering whether they were OK or not!)

It's helpful if you can post a quick (re)introduction, even if you're a regular on the thread, to save people having to remember or to refer back to previous threads. There's no need to "catch up" - just join in whenever you want to.

Leslie

Hope the syringe driver works for you. Don’t like to think of you being in any pain.

Very rude of people to try to drop in without agreeing it first.

I’ve got a hospital day tomorrow. 9 am for Herceptin injection and then have to be at the Christie later in the day for first radiotherapy appointment.

Hope everyone has a good night.

Xx

purpleunicorns · 18/02/2019 09:07

Ah no Leslie it was just the morphine and antisickness, I hope it's making you more comfortable Thanks

Good luck today MrsT, the worst thing about radio is them getting you lined up properly so be prepared for them moving you millimetres to get you in the correct position

KeepCalm · 18/02/2019 17:16

@Mrstraveller hope today goes okay and you're all set up. Was that your first treatment or your mapping apt? As @purpleunicorns says the mapping is the pain in the arse, although I'm hardly an expert as I don't actually start mine till the 28th

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo hope things are a little smoother and not quite as 'Gate crashy' today Thanks

I managed a morning at work and a few hours of business mentoring this afternoon.

Am now pooped on the sofa whilst contemplating a risotto for dinner using yesterday's leftover roast chicken.

My kids are in the kitchen being loud so it can wait Grin

Dulcedelecherocks · 18/02/2019 17:27

How funny. I'm also contemplating an oven baked type thing with rice and leftovers. Must be that kinda day 😂

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/02/2019 18:07

I’m microwaving left over Dominos from yesterday Grin

TwitterQueen1 · 18/02/2019 18:30

I was hoping/expecting DD would cook as I've been at the hospital having an echo and CT this pm... but I've got home early so she's gone swimming. So I think I'll be doing a one-pan-leftover delight..

Super impressed with the CT dept - I turned up over an hour early (though the appt letter does say to do this) and fully prepared to wait when I got called in after about 5 minutes! And they cannulated and scanned in one go AND, fortunately, the scanner checked and then redid the cannula because it would otherwise have been a 3rd instance of dye-into-the-arm-not-the-vein job... I'm hoping I will get the results on Thursday when I go up for my usual checks. Exhausted now.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/02/2019 18:30

I hope your hospital day went alright Mrstraveller :)

Namechange leftover pizza is great. I'm upset with Dominos though after they stopped doing the double decadence base Sad

KeepCalm well done on doing some work. I hope you have a relaxing evening.

No visitors today. My sister has gone home too. I'm very tired. I was still having some pain so the nurse increased the morphine dose in my driver.

If anyone is bored, I'm enjoying Dirty John on Netflix. It's about a con man. It's very interesting. I've given up on Grand hotel as it was getting a bit ridiculous.

I hope everyone has a good evening Glitterball

Cross-posted TQ sorry that you're not being waited on tonight! You certainly deserve it. I'm glad the CT went more smoothly than before :) fingers crossed for you for Thursday Flowers

Thanks for the tip @WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo, I need a new box set to watch

@TwitterQueen1 glad your scan went quickly and they realised your arm. I'll need to remember that too

@Dulcedelecherocks I have (yet another) new cookbook so wanted to try her risotto recipe as am not overly confident with rice and she claims it's easy!! Will report back.

Toofaroutallmylife · 18/02/2019 19:08

Waving at everyone who has had hospital visits today, or is worn out or having a hard time.

I’ve been feeling a bit weepy for the last couple of days. It’s 3 weeks since my op but I’m still very sore and walking is uncomfortable. I think I’m a bit bored really but struggling to do anything about it. And the rest of life goes on - we’re trying to get my mum home from a care home, but I’m not convinced she will manage at home without live-in carers. I still haven’t told her I’m I’ll, but as she can’t remember how many children she has I don’t think it makes much difference

KeepCalm · 18/02/2019 20:26

Oh @Toofaroutallmylife that's rough, so sorry such a hard time being had.

I'm a little ahead of you as my op was 17th Jan and I'm NOW beginning to feel normal again.

Please be gentle with yourself, you're doing so much. If you need a weep then have one but please remember we've got your back if you need us Thanks

HugAndRoll · 18/02/2019 21:54

I hope everyone is doing as okay as they can.

I know I should probably ring the department, but I was wondering if someone could clarify what a clear juice or soup is? To me, clear means lemonade or water, but I'm guessing from my letter I can have other things that aren't my definition of clear. It's for during my colonoscopy prooping. (prep pooping)

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/02/2019 21:58

I think basically no dairy. I think I had mostly water, but squash or lemonade or something would be fine I’m sure.

Prooping made me laugh! I’m using that next time!

Toofaroutallmylife · 18/02/2019 22:06

KeepCalm thank you - I’ve never been properly ill before. I don’t know when I should feel “normal” again, so it’s really helpful to have some sort of comparison! I hope you continue to improve x

Taytotots · 19/02/2019 00:01

Hug anything that's watery really - as namechange says no dairy. No red or purple drinks either. So squash, black coffee/tea, clear broth/stock, jelly, sports drinks etc. Don't just drink water as you need stuff to replenish electrolytes. Prooping is definitely one to keep using Grin.

Too far sorry you're having a tough time. As keepcalm says try to be kind to yourself (I was absolutely rubbish at that though and very impatient to get better!).
TQ glad the CT went well. Good luck for the results.
Leslie glad you've got something to watch. I'll investigate - always on the hunt for things both I and DH can agree on watching together.

Borntobeamum · 19/02/2019 07:57

Hug I was told anything that was clear as that meant it had no fibre in it.
I bought lots of 'naice' apple juices. The clear not cloudy ones. I could have jelly. But not blackcurrant ones as that could stain the colon.
Hope this helps x x

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/02/2019 16:00

Good luck Hug. I think Tayto's list pretty much covers it. Definitely avoid anything red/purple coloured. I stuck to orange and lemon squash to be honest.

Toofar Flowers I'm not surprised you're feeling weepy. Either situation would be stressful enough on its own, let alone both at once. I'm sorry about your mum. It doesn't sound like telling her would benefit either of you, but it must be hard not to have her support.

KeepCalm how was your risotto?

We are a bit obsessed with a new recipe book I got for Christmas called the Green Roasting Tin. It's vegetarian/vegan, but she wrote an omnivorous version too. You just bung everything in one dish so it's been good for my mum since I declined, as she won't delegate cooking (despite lots of friends offering) or buy ready meals.

I've been sleeping again. The district nurse upped my morphine a bit when she changed my pump as I had some discomfort from my adhesions in the night. I hesitate to call it pain as it's very mild compared to how it has been in the past.

Waving to everyone and sending hugs to those who need them Glitterball

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 19/02/2019 16:16

Leslie those books look fab! They’re in my Amazon basket now!

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 19/02/2019 16:53

I love the green roasting tin book Leslie . My fave recipe is the one with the orzo and cherry tomatoes. Could eat it for days!

addlebrained · 19/02/2019 16:56

Ooh I have that book too!! Just made the lentil and feta gratin Grin was so yummy!!

KeepCalm · 19/02/2019 17:07

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo erm I didn't have any risottos rice as I am an idiot so it's being made today. Shall report back tonight!!

I have those books too but they're in my 'to try' list Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 19/02/2019 17:24

I love both of those. If you like the tomato orzo, Tahiti, have you tried the tomato panzanella? It's amazing (without the artichokes)

Tonight we are having risotto too. Not from the book Shock

Enjoy your risotto KeepCalm. At least you didn't try to make it with the wrong rice. I've had a few disappointing "risottos" over the years!

Mrstraveller · 19/02/2019 18:04

I bought that book on a previous recommendation from Leslie so must make something from it now. This has reminded me😀

Appointment yesterday was fine. It was just the one where they mark you up. First real treatment is on 28/02 so a new thing to deal with. I think me and Keep Calm will be going through it at the same time.

Nothing planned for tomorrow so I can have a rest as I’ve had a busy 2 days and feel tired now.

Hope everyone has a good night’s sleep tonight.

Xx

purpleunicorns · 19/02/2019 18:31

I hope you're feeling a bit better today Toofar it must be tough having to help your mum too when you've got so much going on Thanks

I'm pleased your morphine driver is helping Leslie and your mum sounds amazing cooking you proper food every day, does she want to pop to mine and be a live in chef? Grin

I've been for my MRI scan today to see why my leg is still hurting, it wasn't very comfortable lying on my back for half an hour with nephrostomy tubes in

I finally tried my weighted blanket last night and I slept for a whole 6 hours which is unheard of so it was definitely worth the money if anyone's thinking of buying one
