Good evening lacies Glitterball and welcome to another thread. We filled the previous one rather quickly with dog stories Grin

Hello to any new posters. Feel free to join us if you've got any sort of cancer, or if you're waiting to find out if you have it. We are always happy to share our experience and hold hands, and even happier when we get to wave goodbye to people who have had the all clear :) (please do come back and let us know either way - sometimes people just disappear into the sunset, leaving us wondering whether they were OK or not!)

It's helpful if you can post a quick (re)introduction, even if you're a regular on the thread, to save people having to remember or to refer back to previous threads. There's no need to "catch up" - just join in whenever you want to.

Sorry you've had a really bad night purple, I hope the nurse comes soon and the doctor sorts out getting your infection treated today.
You must be a bit further south than me, I'm in the former steel town which has a reputation for snow (cryptic clue!)

TwitterQueen1 · 22/02/2019 13:02

Well I'll take today as a win, though I'm not especially reassured by whoever examined my scan results. One of the measured tumours has shrunk slightly; the other one has disappeared but a new one has developed very close to it.... My consultant is of the opinion that this 'new' one is in fact the 'old' one and they've got the location a bit wrong, which sounds very plausible. So I'm going with 'stable'.

It took 4 attempts to get bloods out though, which I find a bit traumatic. I don't know why! They got 2 tubes' worth out OK but apparently i then 'dried up' and and needed a subsequent 3 goes to get the other 2 tubes....

Purple I hope you get something for the pain very soon.
Leslie glad to hear you're still knitting. I watch Grantchester for Robson Green! I remember him from Casualty days...

purpleunicorns · 22/02/2019 13:26

That does sound like a win TQ! I find getting bloods took traumatic too, they normally manage to get half a tube then my veins decide that's enough so it takes a few attempts. I was told to keep warm and drink plenty of fluids before hand to make it easier

My lovely nurse has been and said I can increase my oramorph and he's given me another 3 weeks of steroids as they seem to help but I can't start taking them until they're sure I don't have an infection which I might not find out until Monday. The doctors going to ring the hospital to see if he can get my results this afternoon but he said it's likely they aren't back yet.

The pain has pretty much gone for now but it leaves me exhausted. My sons going to do my housework for me to earn a bit of money, he said he doesn't want paying bless him but if I put it in his bank I'm sure he'll manage to spend it Grin

Ooh what are you knitting now Leslie? I'm currently crocheting a cow Smile

Rosiesmummy17 · 22/02/2019 15:43

Those of you who have experienced the colonoscopy, what exactly about the prep is it that everyone says is the worst? Is it the taste? Is it the urgency? Is it because it makes you sore? All of the above?? I have to have one soon too Envy I got a text today aswell to say that my biopsy has been arranged and the hospital will be in touch within next couple of days.. Only taken about 4 weeks since the previous one was cancelled Confused Sad

HugAndRoll · 22/02/2019 16:13

Good news!! There was nothing to report on my colonoscopy. They're still wanting to investigate my symptoms though, so I'm being referred for a gastroscopy (OEG). I doubt that'll be urgent though.

Thank you so much for your support. I feel silly for worrying now, but I'd rather feel silly and know.

Rosiesmummy for me it was the taste and that my bottom got really sore from wiping, Vaseline helped. Don't move far from the bathroom when you're doing it as there's very little warning.

sundaymorningworries · 22/02/2019 16:42

Hi all. I'm new here 👋🏻 I had a hemithyroidectomy (half my thyroid removed) last month.

A large lump appeared on my thyroid almost overnight in December and I had it removed for just-in-case and diagnostic purposes.

Monday is Results Day. So I'm feeling pretty stressed out right now. Thyroid cancer is very treatable (repeat ad infinitum) but the not knowing is just horrific isn't it?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 22/02/2019 16:53

hugandroll great news Flowers. You are the exact age I was when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer (I say that like I’m soooo much older now Smile) so I am just so so pleased by your news. I’m also pleased that they sent you for a colonoscopy as I had to fight a bit due to my age, although my symptoms were spookily like yours. So if things are getting better with GPs then I’m delighted. I hope that you can get an answer soon to what’s been making you feel so rough.

rosies yep pretty much those things! But it is only one day and it is so important.

sunday the waiting is absolutely the worst. What do you have planned for the weekend to take your mind off things?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 22/02/2019 17:18

Good news Hug! :) good luck with the gastroscopy. I hope they find a cause for your symptoms that is easily dealt with. Now rest up! Flowers you're not silly to worry. Your GP wouldn't have referred you for the tests if they didn't think the symptoms were worth investigating.

Rosies grrr at the delay. I hope they give you an appointment quickly. I've only had one colonoscopy (had my colon removed after that!) but I didn't actually find it too awful. The prep solution is quite unpleasant, but just down it as quickly as possible and have a nicer tasting drink to follow. Some people recommend a straw so you don't taste it as much, but that slows it down.

purple I hope you hear back soon. How frustrating. Especially when it's delaying your steroids! I hope the increased oramorph is helping Flowers it's good your son is chipping in with the housework. You need your rest I'm just knitting scarves for the WH refugee project, nothing too exciting. I have finished all of my ongoing projects, I think. I had a few random squares that I'd made so my mum is making them into blankets for different WH projects.

TQ Star sounds good to me. Annoying about the blood though!

ggirl sorry that you're still suffering side effects from your treatment Flowers

KeepCalm yes, she was rather. I found it compelling, mainly because I really wanted him to get his comeuppance.

Toofar don't get me started on Death in Paradise! Grin it's so colonial. Silly foreigners can't solve any crimes without the hapless British detective. Eek to silver nitrate. I had that on my manky toe! I've got some medihoney cream to prevent pressure sores. I also used it on my sore nose (from oxygen prongs) and it sorted that right out.

Waving to everyone. Happy Friday.

I'm watching black-ish at the moment.

I had some breakthrough pain again so they've upped the morphine in my pump.

Sorry, I'm really slow so I cross-posted with you sundaymorningworries Flowers good luck for Monday. The uncertainty is very difficult. I hope you're all healed up from your surgery now.

Oh god the wiping!! I hadn't thought is that - Thats going to be an issue with having lichen Sclerosus Blush

KeepCalm · 22/02/2019 20:29

leslie I've already done Blacklist, I love what's-his-name and am about to start Amsterdam with one of the blacklist cast in it. Will let you know x

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 22/02/2019 20:41

Oh I like the Blacklist too. But I meant black-ish, which is a comedy.

New Amsterdam looks intriguing, but I tend to avoid medical things now. I watched too much ER and had a very distressing hallucination/dream. I'd probably be alright now though so might have a look :) I hope that you enjoy it!

Borntobeamum · 22/02/2019 21:22

Hug I'm so pleased for you!
Rosie I had Moviprep for my endoscopy and colonoscopy and I found it horrendous I'm afraid. The taste was awful but it had a thick texture. 🤢
Got my CT Colonography I had a different concoction which came In Two large bottles. This was easier to drink as only 1 litre as opposed to 2 litres of moviprep. I also had a small bottle of Gastrograffin which was like an aniseed liqueur. It made me shiver and gave me goose bumps 😔

HugAndRoll · 22/02/2019 21:34

Thank you everyone. I'll step back now, but will keep an eye on how you're all doing. Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 22/02/2019 21:55

All the best Hug Flowers

Ewwwww to the aniseed one Borntobe. I'm glad I've never had that. I think I'd throw up. I wonder why they choose such horrid flavours for medicines Confused

Hi,

Sounds like a win to me TQ have fun with your daughters tonight/this weekend.

Leslie I have a slight cookbook habit, I seem to only make a handful of recipes from each one too! I am sure the girls would like risotto if they would actually try it!

cazy 6 to go now. I cannot remember who said about medihoney, but I have some as my left boob has gone very red & leathery now. It smells a bit fusty, but seems to work.

purple what a pain regarding steroids being on hold until Monday. Make the most of being able to sleep all night until then.

hug great news Grin

sunday good luck for Monday.

rosie I hope you are not waiting too long & it all goes as smoothly as possible.

My radio has been ok really. I have had a few extra naps, but am not totally exhausted. Mum & Dad go home tomorrow and may take my dog again for another holiday. I think I could manage him, but I have other stuff going on and it means I can build myself up gradually to the walks etc as haven't done loads. We did a 40min walk on Tuesday and it wiped me out afterwards. Am getting a bit of stabby nerve type pain when I excert myself on the side/breast the radio is treating, so will gradually increase excersise. My youngest has a sleepover 2mo and I am really looking forward to having the afternoon/evening with my eldest as this rarely happens just me & her. She wants to go for coffee/hot chocolate and watch a Harry Potter film that her sister is a bit young for. Should be fun Smile

X

KeepCalm · 23/02/2019 06:27

leslie I read it as Blacklist sorry!! And New Amsterdam, two episodes in, seems quite good so far but does indeed have the obligatory ongoing cancer storyline in the background!

@HugAndRoll Delighted to hear your news but off you pop and let's hope you've never a need to revisit X

@noodles44 Glad to hear the rads are going well. I know what you mean by the post walk knackeredness. I did 3 miles with mine yesterday and was in bed by 8.30! DH working today so I'll try to tire them out again this morning and the girls can take them out later! AND DD1 was on a sleep over last night too so we nipped to Pizza express with DD2 & DD3 which was lovely. It's nice when things shake up a little isn't it Smile

Sundaymorningworries · 23/02/2019 09:20

Thanks all. Name I have a toddler so she will ensure I don't get much time to think over the weekend 😬

purpleunicorns · 23/02/2019 11:51

Are you still on the fentanyl patches too Leslie? If you are could they increase them? I think they go up to 100mg

Hug I'm really pleased for you! Of course you would be worried so don't feel silly. I hope they manage to find out what's causing your symptoms soon

I hope you have a lovely day with your eldest Noodles and I'm sure your dog will enjoy his holiday

I still haven't got my results back, they should be back today but as the doctors are closed I have a telephone appointment on Monday to find out if I still have an infection. I'm pretty sure I do as I feel rubbish but no temperature so I'm trying to hold off going to hospital unless I start feeling worse. Plus I don't want to turn up at the hospital and tell them I have an infection that I can't remember the name of Blush

Tanfastic · 23/02/2019 12:30

Sunday, a member of my family has just has the same op as you (half thyroid removed) but was told pretty much once he'd had the scans and biopsies that they were 99% sure it was cancerous. His was slow growing, appeared as a lump last August, taken this long to get a diagnosis.

They've said he won't need any further treatment, just monitoring (so treatable).

I hope that goes some way to reassure you, I would have thought they'd have been able to give you an indication prior to them removing it and the fact they haven't makes me wonder if it's nothing to worry about.

Sorry to but in, not a regular on the thread but do lurk and read everyone's journeys, love to you all amazing lacies Smile

sundaymorningworries · 23/02/2019 13:36

Thanks tanfastic and I'm glad your family member is doing okay now. I think with thyroid lumps they quite often take them out before diagnosis, don't ask me why. When I saw the consultant originally he said it was showing a few worrying characteristics but I think I was in shock and I don't remember what they were now.

I'm veering between KNOWING that it's cancer and KNOWING that it isn't 🙄 I keep picturing sitting down in the consultant's room and what words are going to come out of his mouth. Roll on Monday morning 🙏🏻

KeepCalm · 23/02/2019 18:30

Popping on to show leslie my tea. The goat cheese pesto pasta number from that book. Except I added chicken and peas Grin

Smells great so hoping for dill flavour too!

Whoop I've made it out of hospital. Oral antibiotics for 7 days and then back to chemo - yay Confused

Lacies that have survived the Docetaxal battle - did you suffer from red, itchy, slightly blistered skin on the back of your hands and your face? Docs are baffled as to what's causing it. I look like I've been punched in the eye...

KeepCalm · 23/02/2019 19:28

@KnickerBockerGlooooory YAY for release!

I had scarlet face after docetaxel but no blisters Confused sorry I can't be more help

Sunday I know exactly what you mean about imagining the conversations! I’ve suffered a lot from anxiety and it’s very hard (but important) to remember that thoughts are powerful but not real. Life will be easier when you have facts to wrestle with x
