Do I achieve anything by complaining?

Just had a first gynaecology screening today and I’m lost.

It’s NHS, I had to walk out, but didn’t listen to my intuition.

She was incompetent, rude, inconsiderate, inexperienced doctor, who thought by smiling she would cover her fear of not knowing what she was doing... I had no idea what will happen as I thought I’m just having usual ultrasound and not a gynaecological one.

Thinking of complaining but will I achieve anything?

I hope I won’t be infected by her trial check up and using me as an experience...

Maybe she didn't know what she was doing because you can't explain what it is you're complaining of?

Inexperiencedchick · 21/10/2018 18:45

I didn’t ask for an internal scan, and kind of left speechless when she said she will check me up... All I wanted is tummy scan, outside. This girl was just taking piss out of me not being clear what will happen.

The fact she said she can’t show me an ultrasound screen as it will make her neck hurt if she turns the screen is bollocks.

I can not believe how naive I can be sometimes...

TBH I can’t understand what you’re trying to communicate to us. We can’t give you any advice with regards to what you may, or may not achieve from complaining if you’re not making any sense.

LizzieBennettDarcy · 21/10/2018 18:54

It must be half term.

Hmm
Wolfiefan · 21/10/2018 18:56

Nobody turns up to a hospital and says they want an internal scan. Confused
The screen is so the professional can do their job. It’s not so the patient can look at their insides. Hmm

mummyhaschangedhername · 21/10/2018 18:58

They should have got informed consent for an internal scan. However your posts are very confusing as to what your actual complaint is.

Bombardier25966 · 21/10/2018 19:01

When she said she would "check you up", did you not ask why or explain your anxiety?

I've reread the OP and I still can't work out what she did wrong.

PlateOfBiscuits · 21/10/2018 19:05

Could you tell us step by step what happened? Eg

  1. arrived at hospital for appointment with... 2)...
Inexperiencedchick · 21/10/2018 19:06

I haven’t had a contest for it. And feeling I have been taken advantage of... The doc who scanned me, had genuinely minimum experience and rude.

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 21/10/2018 19:08

Yes what are your symptoms as your posts are not clear

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2018 19:08

Contest?
Rude how?
How do you know their experience?
Taken advantage of? Like they want to do scans needlessly?
You’re making no sense.

You only wanted cervical not vaginal🙄are u serious

PortiaCastis · 21/10/2018 19:11

Where do you think your cervix is. Up your arse perhaps!

Inexperiencedchick · 21/10/2018 19:14

She said herself she is not competent, and would like to book me early in the week. I asked to book on Wednesday as I wouldn’t be able to do the day she offered. She then says why don’t you wait and I will scan you. Again I was expecting the external ultrasound, nothing more than that. I just felt exposed and felt bad afterwords this is my issue.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 21/10/2018 19:15

There’s no way this scan happened without you knowing what they were going to do.
Sounds like she wanted to refer you to another department (clearly not an emergency) as it wasn’t her specialism. But you declined.
Medical professionals don’t go around saying they’re incompetent.

PlateOfBiscuits · 21/10/2018 19:19

Were you expecting an external ultrasound because someone had told you you were going to have one? If so who?

Inexperiencedchick · 21/10/2018 19:24

Well she said it to me, why would I make it up?

It doesn’t matter anymore. I came here for a support only.

OP posts:
PlateOfBiscuits · 21/10/2018 19:28

I’m sorry, I wasn’t suggesting you made it up at all. I’m just a bit confused and wanted to work out what happened to help you.

Have I got this right?
You went to A&E with abdominal pain and they referred you for a scan.
You went to the scan and the dr told you she was going to do an external ultrasound but actually did a trans vaginal one.

And you’re upset because you weren’t expecting it and you didn’t feel in experiences hands.

SinkGirl · 21/10/2018 19:28

Your doctor referred you for an ultrasound due to abdominal or pelvic pain. Could be appendicitis but it could also be an ovarian cyst, which is why they’ve done an internal scan. This is a very normal thing to do when you have a woman presenting with pain in that area.

She hasn’t done anything wrong by performing an internal scan as that’s the right thing to do in your situation, but if she didn’t get your consent to do it then that’s not okay.

You won’t get an infection- they use disposable covers on internal probes.

mamatomjl · 21/10/2018 19:31

If you having pain round your appendix they would do an internal to have a good look, an ultrasound wouldn't of been clear enough

Inexperiencedchick · 21/10/2018 19:33

You are very right Plate.

I wouldn’t agree for internal scan And felt genuinely bad, end up in tears during a day. Her being rude like I owe her a favour saying she won’t repeat herself twice, etc etc...
She could be more gentle and I wouldn’t feel so bad.

I was in breast clinics before as well, no one treats patients like she does.

OP posts:
PlateOfBiscuits · 21/10/2018 19:36

I’m sorry you’ve had a difficult time. Will it help to try and focus on the positive? Now that you’ve had the scan they can rule out lots of things that could have been causing the pain (they really are a very good way to see what’s going on).

Are you still having pain? Do you have any more appointments upcoming?

davisday · 21/10/2018 19:37

It doesn’t matter anymore. I came here for a support only.

I suggested ages ago you explain things clearly. Then people will be able to offer support. As it is you make no sense.
