Unable to walk suddenly

TROUBLEDMAM · 03/07/2018 02:16

So on Thursday I suddenly became unable to walk
I could feel my back hurt n giving out n my legs trembling
Ive suffered with sciatica before n thought it was the beginning of an episode
Until Friday when I realised I couldn't walk at all
I called my gp out n she said it was sciatica n a pulled muscle
Give me strong drugs n left
Come Saturday night the drugs weren't masking the pain n I was sure they was something more wrong
I rang 111 who phoned an ambulance
They wouldn't take me to hospital said ring my doctor today
I did this n she said she would call back after speaking to another doctor but never did

I'm in absolute agony I'm pissing in a bucket
I've had muscle relaxers called lorazepam
Codeine phosphate paracetamol every four hours since Friday n I'm still in agony

Any one know wat I can do next?

And sometimes doctors who can't explain physical symptoms blame it on mental health. I will never forget a consultant asking me why a specific patient was back on the ward. To get them home as it was all in her head. She was dead six weeks later

Slartybartfast · 26/07/2018 08:01

you need some form of meditation perhaps op? some coping strategies?

TROUBLEDMAM · 26/07/2018 10:15

Silvercat

My mental state is impacting on my physical state ~ I've never heard such codswallop

My mental state is fine slightly more emotional than normal ~ as expected
With anyone in my condition

My bpd is under control

They are literally blaming it on that as they don't have the answers

It's disgusting n shouldn't be allowed

Your situation sounds truly awful, I'm sorry. I can understand why you don't want to go to a&e.
Do you feel you'll manage till next week and your next appointment? Is someone able to go with you and advocate for you if you feel you are not being taken seriously?

TROUBLEDMAM · 26/07/2018 13:54

I've phone gp again just now as I'm
Passing wee without realising it
My leg is so numb
I'm hoping he takes me seriously

Just read your whole thread Troubledmam. So so troubled on your behalf.

Surely people with Mental Health Issues can get ill too - they are not immune from other conditions!

I believe you and hope that once you have a diagnosis you can get some advice over his discriminatory attitude. Just because you have mental health issues does not mean that your pain is not real, nor that there are other causes which should be explored.

Really shocked on your behalf.

MurielsBottom · 26/07/2018 14:41

Oh OP, I have read your while thread and truly feel sorry for you. I would definitely not reccomend you lie in any way as some posters are suggesting. This won't help your case especially as the doctor is already suggesting your mental health is affecting your pain levels.

Have you rung the clinic to see if they have any earlier appointments? They may have a cancellation you can take. Otherwise you need to keep bothering your GP for some more help.

elephantfan · 26/07/2018 16:05

This is really shocking.
Clearly there is something seriously wrong and it has NOTHING to do with your mental health.
Passing urine without realising it in the context of severe and prolonged back pain and loss of sensation s very significant and needs to be investigated urgently.
Sad

notapizzaeater · 26/07/2018 16:09

If the gp won't help I'd go to a and e with your new symptoms

lou1221 · 26/07/2018 16:26

could you go to a physiotherapist, they can be pricey, but so worth it. I have had a bad back on and off for years. I fell over in January, and two days later couldn't walk, sit, stand or lie down. Absolute agony. Was in a and e, they did all the tests, x rayed, luckily nothing was broken. Basically had to wait it out. I found an amazing physio, who literally got me walking again. only now I've started exercising and am so worried of ever being in that amount of pain again. I would rather give birth again, it was that bad.

TROUBLEDMAM · 26/07/2018 16:41

Thank you for your message

My gp finally rung me back I've explained and I was stern
He said "I'll phone the hospital and ring you back" I have no idea what this means?
Is he moving my mri? He is ringing for advice? Is he getting me admitted?
I'm still waiting for him to ring back and tell me what's going on?

Seriously?? Mental health doesn't impact physical well being? My turn to say 'codswallop' and the fact that you are so anti the concept only reinforces this.

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/07/2018 16:57

troubledmam. I’m not for one minute suggesting that you’ll be dead in six weeks btw, very different symptoms for a start! Smile. But I think it just shows sometimes that doctors can be too quick to attribute stuff to mental health if they can’t find a physical reason.....maybe they can’t admit they’ve “failed”.

Years ago I was poorly for some time, various tests which weren’t quite right but not too bad. A consultant said to me “you need to stop thinking about this so much, it’s in your head”.

I requested to be transferred to a different hospital the other end of the country as I’d read about an expert in what I thought was wrong was me. Sure enough I have a rare condition which can be picked up by medical tests and have been on medication for five years.

I hope you get some answers OP Flowers

My DMum had MH problems her entire adult life. She was in severe back pain and was dismissed repeatedly by her normal GP. I get that he was probably sick to death of her but she had never ever complained of pain anywhere so this was a real departure from the norm. Even when her posture was radically changed he sent her away with pain relief. I took her back to the surgery and as 'luck' would have it there was a locum who instantly recognised DMum had probable bone cancer and she was admitted and diagnosed that night. The cancer was in 75% of her bone marrow and normally sufferers of this particular cancer present at 25 - 30%. DDad and I were spoken to by the Doctor in the hospital like we were a pair of hillbillies for keeping DMum from accessing care! I gave him the tongue lashing of his life! Anyone that follows the 'Doctor knows best' rule is taking a risk. I have had many more episodes that have proved this to be true over the years. Take their advice by all means but mix it with common sense and intuition also is my advice.
Op I am shocked that no-one has examined you for CE at the very least.

TROUBLEDMAM · 26/07/2018 17:47

People who think my mental health impacts my pain ~ well I don't wish for your opinions

I'm on my way to the hospital after speaking to the doctor again

I don't know if this is because he finally believes me or because my partner has had the local MP on his case for treating me inhumanly for nearly28 days

Either way I'm off to see a doctor on a surgical ward

I will get listened to as I've had enough now and I know my body and I know I'm not "making this up" or "exaggerating it because of my mh "

And if they is something seriously wrong with me I will sue them !!!
