My periods have always been okay. Never hurt, bled for 5 days usually until I developed pcos. Period then were wobbly but I was never in pain and it was for 3/5 days. Just not every month
I had ds 10 weeks ago and 2 days ago I came on since the birth.
It's horrific. I'm doubled over, I'm dizzy with it and paracetamol doesn't help me at all.
I wear a super heavy tampon, a pad, two pairs of kickers and I keep bleeding through it when I'm wearing it all at the same time. I've just woke up to find myself feeling soaked and sore and the amount of blood in my bed. I Could cry. I'm getting a doctors appointment first thing today but someone please hold my hand and tell me this can be normal

The hospital sounds useless. I would be inclined to get a 2nd opinion.

sillyoldowl · 07/06/2018 07:38

That's not great that they couldn't help you more. Hope it eases up soon

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 07:59

Please keep pushing for a full examination - youve obviously lost a lot of blood if your Hb is low and pain and bleeding like that needs full follow up.

Vagndidit · 07/06/2018 07:59

Ugghh. The hospital has fobbed you off with paracetamol!?? Go elsewhere, Op. Something is really not right here.

Dinoraw · 07/06/2018 08:35

That's what I thought and why I wanted to walk out to another hospital. People go in there to die :( healthy or not :(

Do you have a temperature of any sort Dino?

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 08:53

Other hospital then today. It’s disgraceful you have to push this, but you do need a proper workup. Do take your temperature if you can, preferably before you’ve take any paracetamol or ibuprofen. If it’s elevated, you need urgent care.

OuaisMaisBon · 07/06/2018 11:12

I hope you are feeling a bit better now, OP. I'm shocked at the treatment you didn't receive from A&E - if you went back to your GP, at least by phone, do you think she would be able to help you get the scan she asked for?

Wanderwall · 07/06/2018 11:31

Shocked at this treatment. Yes to pushing for a second opinion. That amount of pain and blood loss doesn't sound right.

JoanFrenulum · 07/06/2018 11:41

Time for a different hospital. Systems minimizing women's pain is a real thing and it sounds like you've been well and truly minimized. You should not have to be in that sort of pain and post-natal complications ought to be checked for thoroughly.

endofagain · 07/06/2018 11:52

Contact your gp again.
I agree re different hospital.
This sounds like a secondary pph due to infection/ retained products.
That amount of blood and pain is NOT a period.

MadeForThis · 07/06/2018 12:05

Hi

My blood loss was hormonal. There was zero pain just massive blood loss. A and e were so concerned they had me on the high dependency unit for all initial checks.

You need more than ibuprofen. You need to be scanned. I have several internal scans and ultrasounds. They even considered a CT scan.

You don't seem to be getting the best treatment. If the blood loss and pain continue go to the other hospital.

Curlywurlywurly · 07/06/2018 12:15

Can your GP help again?

endofagain · 07/06/2018 12:26

I too am getting increasingly concerned about how women are not taken seriously. We are just expected to put up and shut up, especially regarding gynae and obstetric problems.

TammySwansonTwo · 07/06/2018 13:14

This is absolutely unacceptable - you could have retained products, how can they tell without a scan? This could lead to sepsis, and with sepsis you can go from well to seriously ill very fast (I saw someone go from walking and talking to unconscious in less than an hour). Call your GP and ask what you should do, and make sure they give you some decent pain relief? If you’re breastfeeding tramadol is actually considered safer than codeine even though it’s technically stronger - I pumped while on morphine daily so adequate pain relief is not an obstacle to bring. At the very least they should be admitting you for monitoring and IV pain relief. I am horrified.

From your description I doubt you are but if you happen to be in Dorset please contact me, I work in maternity services and can contact someone to try and help.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/06/2018 14:14

Were you not assessed further in gynaecology?. You've had appalling treatment and I would also be contacting PALS when you have fully recovered.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/06/2018 14:15

Further investigation is necessary here and at a different hospital.

charlyn · 07/06/2018 18:10

I would agree with getting a second opinion.

12 days ago I was rushed to A&E with severe abdominal pain, chest pain and bleeding, 2 weeks after I’d been told I’d miscarried (because nothing was found at the scan I had at 6 weeks ). I was transferred to a gynae assessment Ward who I feel didn’t take my symptoms seriously and told me it might just be an infection from tissue left behind. They didn’t bother doing a scan or even testing my hcg levels might have given them an indication what was wrong. They sent me home a few hours later in the middle of the night still in pain. I had to ring back 3 times (one time was about my chest/shoulder pain which they said was probably ‘anxiety’) over the next week before they finally admitted me back to hospital on Saturday . Anyway finally I got a scan where they found a mass in my left tube and fluid around my womb and ended up having emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy, my tube had ruptured and my abdomen was full of blood.
I really wish I hadn’t allowed myself to be discharged the first time without them doing more as I knew something wasn’t right and an ectopic had crossed my mind.

I hope you get an answer even if that means at another hospital. I feel like some healthcare professionals can be quite dismissive of ‘womens’ health problems.

greeneggblueegg · 07/06/2018 18:15

Charlyn that is appalling. Hope you are on the road to recovery now

imsoboredwithitall · 07/06/2018 19:04

@charlyn that is awful!! I am sorry for you and hope you're on the road to recovery Thanks

OuaisMaisBon · 07/06/2018 19:44

charlyn, that is dreadful, you poor thing, all that loss in one go. Flowers
I have to say, I am very concerned about the treatment Dinoraw is not getting. I hope all is well, she has been scanned and a proper diagnosis made, pain-relief given and the bleeding staunched. And I remain shocked and horrified at her treatment in the A&E yesterday. One of the many reasons I won't be retiring to my home country, England, post-Brexit.

charlyn · 07/06/2018 20:22

Thanks everyone. I got discharged on Monday and I have already sent a letter complaining about my experience. I’m most upset about the fact I felt nobody took me seriously at my first visit in hospital and when I rang up again. The doctor said I was ‘lucky’ that most my blood had clotted so I hadn’t bled too heavily when it ruptured but the next lady might not be as lucky so I hope they review their practices.

sijjy · 07/06/2018 20:52

I hope your feeling better. I was advised not to use Tampax for a little while after giving birth. Not sure if that advise still stands but may help ease your symptoms.

1wokeuplikethis · 07/06/2018 21:45

How are you tonight OP?

huha · 08/06/2018 03:36

Now would be the time to actually drive or taxi it to a real hospital and get seen by a real Dr, OP. Sorry your local services are so shit 😞
