Baby has been sick in her sleep, and worried now to go to bed myself

dd, 15 months vomited after tea, and again after bath and again as I put her down to bed. Washed and changed her and bedding and she went out like a light. Just thinking of heading to bed and checked on her and she's been sick again in her cot but is fast asleep.

Worried because:
We sleep one floor down and monitor not working - will she choke on her vomit if she;s sick in night?

Less crucial, do I wake her to change her bedding - bearing in mind I've run out of sleeping bags and she's sleeping soundly...

Poor lamb. She's due chickenpox any day now as we were with friends who had it over bank hol weekend. Wonder if this is something to do with it?

i remember when my son hgad a sickness bug, i slept on his floor incase of choking etc, i suggest u do the same hun xx

Poor little thing. If she's been sick that much and has gone out like a light, hopefully she's done for the night and she'll sleep through - certainly this is what happens when ds's are sick - they're throwing up for a while and then just conk out. So try not to worry about not being able to hear her or you'll drive yourself bonkers. If she's fast asleep I'd probably leave the bedding. And yes, probably the start of chickenpox if she's been playing with someone with it - at least you'll get it over with! Good luck for a peaceful night tonight!!

I think people only choke if they're actually unconscious, not just asleep, but obviously would not want to put this to the test. Do you have a travel cot or anything you could put in your own room?

Darling - poor you and babe
Could you put a large towel under babe? Wrapped arounf mattress so won't come off when turning over?
What about sitting in there for half hour or so until you feel easier with situation?Sleep on the floor in with babe?
Might be to do with chicken pox - would be quick incubation period if so.

DS did this several times around this age. I had two glasses of medicinal wine and slept on the floor with just a duvet and a pillow. I did this every night for a week But that is just me. Marvin the Paranoid Android.

The wine sent me off, and believe me if you are sleeping on a hard floor you will be glad of it. It did not stun me either so when I heard him being sick later on that night I was there.

Re changing I suspect it would depend on how revolting and copious the vomit was

Carrie, what we do is to put a towel on their bed under their heads, which makes the bedding much easier to change. And dh usually sleeps in with them if they're not right. I would wake her (because she'll probably wake up anyway) and then go in with her.

She won't choke, and if you're in there then you'll hear her. But also, if she's been sick already then there won't be that much left to be sick with iyswim!

(Go with the towel, it's a lot less soul destroying than changing the whole bed only for them to be sick again!)

I would kick your other half out - do you have another room he can sleep in? or sofa? - and bring her into your bed

lie her on a towel and leave a big pile of spares next to the bed for any other episodes

your Mum Antennae will twitch if she is sick in the night and you will be next to her

(we tried leaving dd2 once when she was being a pain sleeping. I am rubbish and only left her 5 mins and when I went in she had been sick and was lying in it. How baaaaaaaaad did I feel then?)

Her room used to be my office, is about as big as a desk, so unless I get in cot with her might be tricky.

But might go and sleep with one of other kids on their floor (next door to her) so at least I'd hear her..

May well leave bedding - she was just so tired tonight and would hate to wake her up and distress her. Maybe turn her round out of way of sick... TMI i know....

You can choke in your sleep even if conscious.

I'd take her into bed with me for the night. Hope she's better soon.

If you can't sleep in there with her I think I'd put her in a travel cot in your room (again with towel!). Hope she's better soon and you get a good night's sleep.

and then if she is anything like dd2, she will snuggle up and you will feel all warm and then realise it is just the sick she has deposited on your neck...

sick is the worst isn't it?

one bad night I shoved all the 'used' towels in a bin bag in the middle of the night and then had to spend all the next morning gagging and cleaning the puke from them

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh parenting

The amount of sensible help I missed out on is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr inducing.

Towel........light bulb moment, so blimmin obvious.........but I never thought of it.

Keep X posting. She would probably not sleep with me. After a couple of serious co- sleepers we've made quite an effort to discourage it with this one to the point that now when it would be lovely to have a snuggly sleep she just sees our bed as somewhere to play...

No, think spare pull out bed in ds's room with doors open is probably best option. She's been my only good sleeper out of 3, so was due a bad night at some stage.

I kept all the useless ones with pointy hoods for newborns for this very purpose

both mine have been pukers

both of mine had a couple of days of sickness and diarrhea before the first pox came out so it could be that. dd is very prone to being sick, we have a routine sorted for it, big bath towel on bed, bowl and old muslins at side of bed.

worse time was when she was about 3, i was driving home on my own with her in the evening from leicester to lancashire and she vomited all over herself, across the dash board and in my handbag on the a50. by the time we got home, she'd fallen asleep again but i had to wake her as all the sick was dried in her hair

Sickness often precedes chicken pox Carrie so you are probably right. Hope it's a mild case.
