Good evening

Our previous thread is here

If you've got cancer, this is the thread for you. Introduce yourself and feel free to ask any questions. We also welcome anyone who is waiting for cancer tests. We know how scary it can be. So don't be shy. We will happily hold your hand and hopefully wave goodbye when you get good news :)

ps Leslie didn't mean to belittle your cough at all; just meant that if anyone else was around, they could probably sympathise on some level! I hope you will be feeling better soon. The overly warm filthy humid air at the moment probably isn't helping.

Taytotots · 01/06/2018 00:43

GrinGrinTQ yes just as well not a bigger dog! The rak man sounds great (people being nice like that makes me cry too). I will try and pass one on on your behalf.

Chase glad scan went well and hope blueness fades soon.

Leslie sorry to hear about the coughing. Hope you are not feeling too bad and can enjoy the holiday.

I'm not having much luck. Have blood clot in arm from picc line now. Technician said clot has been there for some time so I suspect from when my arm swelled up a few weeks ago (I asked them then if I had a clot and they said no as would hurt more). Anyway at least they didn't admit me (I took bag in case) and just on self injected blood thinners. Plus was meant to be going out for tea tonight and couldn't as got severe stomach pain and started throwing up - suspect from eating an orange - thankfully that has gone now.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 01/06/2018 06:46

Good morning

genie don't worry I didn't feel belittled :) it's just embarrassing but you're right people would probably understand. I always worry they'll think I'm drunk or something!

Tayto oh bum. That's very annoying. I hope it clears up quickly and that you don't find the injections too unpleasant Flowers

TQ well done on finishing this batch of treatment :) I celebrate every possible occasion but I can see why you don't particularly feel like it. Hopefully a bit of a break will help you feel less heffalumpy and exhausted Flowers I also feel heffalumpy and that's an excellent way to describe it. Yuck to the weeing dog! But yay for nice parking man. And a big hug. This whole cancer thing is tough especially on your own.

Righty ho. I should probably drag myself out of bed! Have a good day everyone. Good luck to anyone who has appointments today. Sorry I've lost track Blush

Oh no Tayto! Sorry to hear about infections and clots - that is so frustrating Angry and I hope the throwing up stops immediately! This cancer lark is a bugger.

I made the error of taking last dose of loperamide with last dose of this cycle’s capecitabine. I have therefore been awake for an hour or more with stomach cramps and rumblings! How long after stopping the tablets do you have this? I realise the tablet levels have accumulated and that’s why it’s still upset but wasn’t sure how long for! Am meant to be going for lunch with someone today so have popped another loperamide and hope this all settles!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 01/06/2018 07:12

Flowers addled I hope it eases up quickly. To be honest I found things never really went back to normal in between cycles... it did improve during the week off though. Just in time to start again! I hope you enjoy your lunch anyway.

Sorry to hear some of you are having frustratingly longer than expected waits for tests and results, I hope they come through quickly.

I got admitted back to hospital with complications after my surgery, a lot of swelling in my throat and neck as well as feeling awful. I've had fluid drained and feel much better now, still no pathology results yet but hopefully I'll find out next week when I'm back.

DD's lymph nodes are increasing in size and starting to bother her to the point she keeps telling me she can feel them so time to switch focus and get her blood tests done, my gut instinct is it will all be fine however I will feel terrible if not after delaying them for my (what I thought would be) quick day case surgery!

Hoping you all have the best day possible.

addlebrained · 01/06/2018 11:58

Oh Zebra what a nightmare. I hope you feel better soon! Yes I think most of these lymph nodes in young people are not sinister but best to check as you say - it’s too stressful after all you’ve been going through Flowers

Thanks Leslie - hope your cough is disappearing!

purpleunicorns · 01/06/2018 14:21

Tayto I hope you're feeling better and manage to get out for tea soon Thanks

TQ I keep thinking I'm strong and I can do this but as soon as someone is kind to my I turn into a bit snivelling mess Confused are your dcs back anytime soon? I have a Yorkshire terrier, thankfully she's never had a wee on me Grin hope your feeling a bit better today and managing to enjoy the sun

Likeazebra does your DD have an appointment yet? Fingers crossed it's something harmless

Leslie I saw this on Facebook and thought of you

Grin purple that is funny - I can empathise with most of them too! I get dreadful hay fever and it is such a pain!

TwitterQueen1 · 01/06/2018 17:48

yes that is funny Purple Grin. DD3 doesn't seem to be suffering so much this year, strangely. I know that's no consolation Leslie!

DD1 has moved out to live with bf, the other 2 are due back at some point Wink. DD2 is enjoying a couple of last weeks of student life before graduation. DD1 is doing some developmental workshop thing for a week and is now hugely relieved (as am I) to have found accommodation for next year.

Tayto so sorry about the clot - that sounds nasty. Are you OK with the injections? I just couldn't cope with them and went to the surgery every day for a nurse to do them. Hope the throwing up has stopped.

Zebra are you still in? Those complications sound awful. I hope you've seen the last of them.

Was up at 3.10am thanks to the steroids. Luckily I have a good book. After a couple of naps I'm feeling pretty good and enjoyed a walk earlier. Poor dog didn't. She's not socialised (she's 11) and takes fright at just the sight of another dog.

YearOfYouRemember · 01/06/2018 18:26

Hello everyone

Sorry I can't reply individually. I'm having trouble seeing clearly at the m9ment.

Have slept about 7 hours at the hospital with dd. Ironically sent there by the GP I'll be seeing on Monday.

I'm bleeding more than yesterday today. First time was t8ny and bright red but the nex5 times were/are brownish.

I'm 46.

Feeling fragile.

Dd will be okay but I need to try and get some referrals for her. Seems she should have been having consultant care

pepperrabbit · 01/06/2018 19:50

Evening all, just popping in to whinge really. After 4 cycles of zoladex to suppress my annoyingly perky ovaries I have finally connected the pattern of my reaction to it. 6 days after the implant my lips swell up, then they blister and then they crack, split and bleed. It's very painful and deeply unattractive, think bad botox or Patsy from Ab Fab's lipstick.....
As it's getting worse I rang the breast care nurse for advice, I now have an urgent oncology appt on Wed, and am not allowed to have the zoladex on Tues.
I am tempted to ask for a fast track oophorectomy, every time they change something I'm back to day 1 with hot flushes, joint pain and poor sleep.
Potted history as rarely post, stage 2 lobular breast cancer 2016, lumpectomy, chemo, rads, then tamoxifen, then letrozole. A surprise period implied I'm not post menopausal , hence the zoladex...

maggienolia · 01/06/2018 20:14

Hi all, just wanted a hand hold, but not for me. After losing my dad to cancer in January, my SIL has been diagnosed with a kidney tumour. Whole kidney is coming out
I'm two hours away so can't be on hand, just struggling to come to terms with it and wondering how else to help her.
Cancer seems to be following us round ar the moment.

mrsrhodgilbert · 01/06/2018 23:04

Hi pepper sorry to hear the dreaded zoladex is still giving you problems. I don't miss it, I'm about two months post oophorectomy now and feeling as well as possible given that I'm still taking anastrazole. It was a pretty simple surgery, if you can persuade them to do it I would certainly recommend it. One less drug has to help.

Taytotots · 02/06/2018 01:04

addled I find my dire rear got worse after stopping tablets - guess due to build up. That's when I ended up on the stronger stuff. Hope yours resolves soon.

Thanks for good wishes everyone. Feeling better today and DH did bring me back a takeaway so didn't miss tea entirely. TQ injections not too bad thankfully. Very thin needle and not too stingy after. Ended up having to go back to hospital to get supplies though today as none of local pharmacies could get before Monday. Also started crying in performance review today (because of cancer stress of this week I think) and had to pretend was seasonal allergies Blush. My manager did commend me for not being dead which I did feel was a tad tactless!

Pepper that sounds an awful side effect. Hope they manage to sort it out for you.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Off for Wine now!

addlebrained · 02/06/2018 07:56

Thanks Tayto - but Shock and Hmm at your manager/reviewers comment! How on earth do you react to that kind of thing?!

Sorry to hear about your relative maggie - it’s difficult to know what to advise apart from general supportiveness and understanding when people affected by cancer are feeling low or miserable really. Distractions are always good too Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 03/06/2018 13:21

zebra I hope you are recovering well from the complications Flowers fingers crossed for your results, and for your daughter too

purple Grin that made me laugh - thanks!

addle sorry you're suffering with it too

TQ the dog sounds rather high maintenance! I hope she hasn't weed on you again...

Year sorry to hear that. I hope you can get the referrals for your daughter sorted quickly. I'm not surprised you're feeling fragile. I hope the bleeding has eased off Flowers

pepper what an absolute pain in the bum! I hope the oncologist can come up with a solution on Wednesday. Sounds like the surgery might be a good idea.

maggie I'm sorry about your dad and SIL. As addle says just general supportiveness will be helpful. There are occasionally threads in the Life-limiting illness topic from people in a similar position, where posters have given suggestions on how to help.

mrsrhod glad to hear you're feeling relatively well after your op :)

Tayto what a bizarre comment from your manager Confused

YearOfYouRemember · 03/06/2018 15:41

Hello everyone.

I'm sorry to hear about your family members maggie.

Tayto Shock

Bleeding more now. It's been increasing each day. Started off red on Tuesday then brown until today when it's red. Does anyone know if that's relevant?

pepperrabbit · 03/06/2018 20:58

Evening all, been a lovely sunny day here so I hope everyone has been able to enjoy it as much as possible.
mrsrhod I'm glad you are feeling better after your surgery, I'm hoping not to repeat the battle you had to get it agreed though. Can I ask how long your recovery was? I hope to go private and want to manage expectations at work.
I didn't feel like going out at all yesterday, as my face is all sore and dribbly, which is a slippery slope so I painted my nails, put on some heels (but no make up!) and went out with my sister and SIL and had a very jolly time.
Thinking of everyone awaiting results and tests, Flowers

purpleunicorns · 03/06/2018 21:11

Year brown blood is old blood that's been there awhile, bright red blood is fresh blood, thats about all I can help you with but hopefully you'll get some answers tomorrow when you see your GP

Good luck with your appointment on Wednesday pepper, fingers crossed you get sorted and start feeling better soon Thanks painting my nails always makes me feel better, I look like bambi on ice if I try to wear heels though Grin

YearOfYouRemember · 03/06/2018 21:14

Thank you purple.. I'm hoping the GP can help. Tbh I'm getting more worried. Keep thinking of all the things I've not done

Move12345 · 03/06/2018 21:22

Just a quick question.. It's been a week since my CT scan. I haven't heard back about a follow up appointment. Am I best to wait and see if they call over the next week?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 03/06/2018 22:05

Move was it your GP who referred you for the scan or are you under a consultant?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 03/06/2018 23:00

Sorry not been around this weekend. I got my referral to the breast clinic (Thursday) by two letters in the post on Saturday, one hand addressed. Boyfriend picked them off the mat and noticed they were NHS but didn't probe, so I still haven't told him. Will see if I feel i need someone to go with later in the week. :) At manager commendation for not being dead ...
