Hoping it's ok to start a part 2 of our thread, since the first one got to 1000 posts and isn't accepting any new messages:

I feel like I’ve now started putting feeling ill in the past... I have been ill as opposed to I am still feeling ill...

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/04/2018 08:45

That's when I knew, when I changed to saying 'when I was sick'

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/04/2018 21:27

All my bloods came back normal Hmm asked the nurse so why am I so tired, she couldn't comprehend it Hmm

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 18/04/2018 21:31

Normal bloods doesn’t mean optimal health though....

How is your diet? Magnesium can be really good when just shattered asvital for energy. Do you eat enough protein? Lots of veg?

Sounds really dull but def worth a shot!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 19/04/2018 06:01

Called I follow Rhfitness so eat 120g protein daily & have a good mix of fruit, veg & wholegrains in my diet.

I take a supplement called revive active which I find helps a lot, I'm sporadic with my taking of magnesium so from today on I'm going to make a conscious effort with that.

Definitely know healthy bloods doesn't mean I'm perfectly well as I feel like I'm only running at about 60% charge Shock

GlomOfNit · 21/04/2018 23:12

I've been reading this thread on and off for weeks now. Smile I don't think I'm one of you - at least, not the same flu virus. I never had the sore throat at all, but at the start of March when I went down with it, I had the bone-aches, shivering/feeling too hot (but according to DH no obviously high temp), it went straight to my chest and I had a couple of weeks of really disgusting browny mucus, the cough lasted longer, and while I was out of bed by the end of the week, I had another week lolling on the sofa taking it easy. Then I just felt utterly washed-out for weeks. Sad I've only just restarted my karate, 7 weeks later... This week I've over-stretched myself and now I'm floored.

My main concern is that since the flu, I've had what feel like palpitations, dizzy spells and occasional breathlessness. I can't say they've got better over seven weeks. Confused They are exactly like a panic attack and since I'm prone to those, I don't know what's going on. My GP referred me for an ECG which was fine. BP is also fine. My GP's told me to expect a long recovery from this bug and that funny spells are normal. It's freaking me out though, sitting still on the sofa and feeling a racing heart or feeling dizzy. (yes I googled. GP doesn't think it's likely to be myocarditis.)

Anyone else get this, post-virus?

avuncularis · 24/04/2018 21:38

Yes GlomOfNit, I'm post-viral with this awful thing and it's bad. I've been constantly ill since the beginning of the year.

I've been left with a compromised immune system, in my opinion, and a variety of ailments which feel like one thing after another. I'm so depressed by it. The GP has no solution other than to let it take its course, which wouldn't be so bad if anyone really knew what that course was, and when it's likely to end.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to tree pollen and this time of year is typically rough for me anyway, but on top of the post-viral condition it's hell. I haven't felt well for so long I'm now concluding that something has gone horribly wrong and I may never really recover. The fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle aches and sinus congestion are the main carry-over symptoms, again complicated by hayfever. But I've had a UTI, conjunctivitis, dizziness, toothache, headaches... the list goes on. And I can't discount the anxiety and depression, because they are directly caused by the feelings of hopelessness I have about ever fully recovering.

Well, thankfully most will avoid the post-viral situation and I wish you all very well. I'll check back in again when I feel up to it and let you know how I'm doing. Take care Flowers

I’m back to normal.... hereis what I recommend...

Beg your GP to test your vitamin D level or get it done privately. You need it optimised.

Take a magnesium supplement every night - a good one.

Take vitamin c 100mg a day.

Limit sugar and shite

HTH someone

mammynowanauntyIRL · 28/04/2018 21:02

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow I'm going to take all of your advice on board. I already have vit D spray and magnesium supplements so am going to take them consistently. Taking a supplement which contains 600mg vitamin c already did you mean 1000mg?
I thought I was better I'd 3 good weeks, conjunctivitis last week and smothered with a head cold, swollen glands etc again since thurs eve Sad

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 29/04/2018 09:19

Can you pay to get your vit D tested privately?

It’s about £35 and a finger prick test that you post off. Dead easy.

You are probably deficient in vit D and need a high dose BUT you don’t want to do this blindly as too much is not good for you at all!

I am a sunworshipper in the summer, has a hot holiday in February and try to get sun on arms and legs as much as possible. I started 10,000 IU in December and tested two weeks ago and was low-normal. Far from optimal. I take the Better You Vit d spray which has vit K in it.

Magnesium and vit K are needed to help vit D absorption. Magnesium needed for so many functions. 1000mg vit C good but try to avoid the stuff full of sweetners.

Try to limit sugar and eat protein and veg every meal xx

treedragon · 04/07/2018 20:46

So did we all get better from this horrid virus.

I must confess that I still after all this time do not feel "quite right" or not as healthy as I did since having it.....

Autofill · 04/07/2018 21:19

I’ve only just got to about 95% better, this virus seemed to morph badly and ended up affecting my central nervous system mid April, at first gp thought it was Guillain barre but got checked over by Neurologist who said it was just a bizarre virus and would clear up but take probably months... I’ve just had 3 weeks of another mouth thrush like bug... Am taking every vitamin going. Hope everyone else is now back to normal!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 05/07/2018 08:33

@autofill for the months of April/May/June once I paced myself I was doing ok. At the end of June I thought I would be able to introduce some exercise classes again, how wrong was I?! At doctors again on Monday with a sore throat, and heaviness in my head. Wouldn't normally go to doctor with this, but this is how it started last January. I've shelved the exercise and have a prescription for an antibiotic on standby but it appears to be just a long lasting virus.

Have been taking revive active, vitamin d and magnesium and my friend has insisted that I introduce udos also so have them on order too.

How is your central nervous system now?

treedragon · 05/07/2018 14:16

Hello! I want to say aso that this has affected my Central Nervous System too - feels like I have a lot of trapped nerves and for a while fet shakey. I also get attacks where I feel dizzy.

It certainly affected the nerve endings in my upper back and neck and the sensation or "pain" from that radiates down my arms and also round to the front of my chest. Some days more than another.

Doctor has said it's related to the virus I had.

It is hard to explain in much detail but you may get the idea if having the same path.

G;ad I resurrectd this thread after all

treedragon · 05/07/2018 14:20

Sorry! Also it has left me with funny clicky joints - partularly my jaw on the left hand side. I went to the dentist over this and they again attributed it to the virus.

Autofill · 05/07/2018 17:28

@mammy and @treedragon It’s definitely been a weird one. I actually thought, at one point, I thought I was having some sort of nervous breakdown but, no.
I had tingling and a sunburn feeling that stayed in my lower legs bilaterally and spread up my body to my crotch. No rash, no sign of anything. I was really starting to panic at that point as I just hadn’t felt right for so long. It has gradually, very slowly, subsided but can still feel residual hot patches on the backs of my legs. Maybe this will just keep abating...Not sure. I had about 7 weeks off work in the end and lost 1 stone. I’m now paranoid of catching anything ever again!!!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 05/07/2018 18:49

No doctor has acknowledged that I had a virus for so long!
Glad your doctors acknowledge it.

user1471550643 · 05/07/2018 18:58

Hi everyone. From what you are saying I think I escaped mildly. Went back to work after 3 weeks felt normalish after around 8. I used to run regularly. Tried again in April and it was obvious I’d pretty much lost all my fitness. I’m really struggling to get anywhere near the pace/distance I could do, but don’t want to push myself in case I trigger something again. Best wishes to you all for your continued recovery.

treedragon · 05/07/2018 20:07

@kikashi

how are you now?

treedragon · 05/11/2018 14:04

So how is everyone now??

Oldmum55 · 05/11/2018 16:30

Glad I saw this thread! After 8 weeks of various symptoms I now believe it must be post viral or another virus! Not as bad as the original problems but still not 100% well at least not everyday. Even pins and needles on one side of the body! At least there are or have been, others in the same situation!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 05/11/2018 18:08

Part of my problem was stress from an unhappy marriage & extra stress trying to keep everything in the air. I've since separated & made myself a priority too.
Debating flu vaccine currently as I don't want to get sick again this winter

treedragon · 05/11/2018 21:44

I have absolutely no idea what that horrid virus was but mine lasted from start of January until at least April and into May.

And ever since I have had it I have not felt quite right. I get very tired easily still and have had trouble with my upper back and tingling and pins and needles in my legs, arms fingers. Also I seem to have a lot of nausea. Sometimes dizziness.

Just an overall feeling of "not right"

I have attributed all this to that horrid virus.

Have we all not fully recovered yet?

Notatallobvious · 05/11/2018 21:53

I am okay now...but without wishing to sound melodramatic I actually thought I was dying. It dragged on for a couple of months, with constant aching, intermittent fevers etc, I convinced myself I had some serious underlying illness. I guess it was some post viral symptoms dragging on. Hoping it doesn't come back this year!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 05/11/2018 22:04

I'm definitely not recovered 100%. It takes me weeks to bounce back from even one late night even if it doesn't involve drink, this wouldn't have been the case before.
I wonder if it was a bit of burnout for me too.
