Hoping it's ok to start a part 2 of our thread, since the first one got to 1000 posts and isn't accepting any new messages:

I got this on jan 4th and spent over two weeks in bed & went back to work on reduced hours then, going to bed one hour after returning home since then.

I'm now on day 8 feeling well, so into second week Grin after eleven full weeks of it. Still pacing myself & will be for a long time to come, doctor mentioned post viral fatigue when I got bloods taken during the week to see what's happening

Flooffloof · 30/03/2018 22:29

I am in week, oh I can't think, had it since before Christmas anyway.
Still feel awful with fatigue and aches. Climbing stairs is like conquering mt Everest. Going downstairs I have to do a one foot, next foot on same step, like a toddler.
Currently have backache, it's hell on me, I have never in my life had backache. Please would someone be so kind as to put me out of this misery.

kikashi · 31/03/2018 10:08

Before Xmas start for me too. My DC picked it up on my second wave, so got off with 6 weeks (may have ruined my son's GCSE's - he is behind now).

Everyone in the house still has a range of residual symptoms - stuffed noses, sniffles to full on coughing, fatigue. we are just not back to "normal". We were meant to visit a friend a few hours drive away yesterday but cancelled as we really needed to rest up on the bank holiday. Ridiculous.

PeonyTruffle · 31/03/2018 10:26

Just pulling up a chair at the pity party

Hot and cold, headache, sore throat, runny nose, everything aches, can’t stop shivering and an upset stomach (which is really what you want when you can barely stagger to the bathroom)

I’m the last one in the house to catch it, it was inevitable really. Just going to get my tiny violin out Sad

kikashi · 31/03/2018 12:36

Oh peony you can have a very big violin. Sympathies to you

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 31/03/2018 12:49

I’m rarely properly ill. What is this bug?

Sore throat on Monday and I kept going and going and I’m now in bed with body aches and a cough and headache.

It ain’t flu but it’s a miserable cold!

When will I get better?!

Seeline · 31/03/2018 12:56

Round 2 here too. Was really poorly at the beginning of Feb - 10 days in bed with high temp and ABs for chest infection. Took most of Feb to recover but by beginning of March I had the remains of a cough and just felt really tired. Last week caught a cold off my DS and am back to really painful stuffed sinuses, bad headache and revolting cough. I'm really wheezy - not in my chest back at the bottom of my throat? Anyone else like that? Temp keeps going up a little bit. Really don't want more ABs but beginning to think I might need them. Supposed to be going away next week too....

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 31/03/2018 13:08

That’s how I am. It’s mainly in my
Throat.

I don’t think I need ABs so battling on

Poor you having it twice!!!

Twistofanxiety · 31/03/2018 13:12

I'm so glad to find this thread again. I thought I was going mad and it couldn't possibly be the same virus since early January. At one point I was wheezing so much I couldn't breathe but GP said nothing on my chest and it was a viral cough. I've also had the tummy upsets, sore throat (which might have been sinuses), aching back and joints and feeling tired. The weirdest thing though is I got an eye infection. Is that part of it as well do you think?

PeonyTruffle · 31/03/2018 18:57

Me again with my giant tiny violin

Anyone had like a pins and needles feeling with this? My arms and legs are covered in goosebumps and feel like the little hairs are needles. It’s so painful, I’m in bed with 2 blankets on top and I can’t stop shaking

I just keep crying, my poor DH doesn’t know what to do with me 🙈

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 31/03/2018 18:58

That sounds like flu, you poor soul

ApplesinmyPocket · 31/03/2018 19:24

"I'm really wheezy - not in my chest back at the bottom of my throat? Anyone else like that?"

I've had exactly that! it's the most uneasy feeling and I really don't like it - it started at Christmas! I'm thinking that it is (fingers crossed) feeling a bit better this week... best of luck and returning health to all troubled by this horrid thing.

treedragon · 31/03/2018 21:57

Hello everyone! I had a bit of a break from this and I think I will be exactly at week 12 with this tomorrow.

What I can report is I am still not "right". I tire easily and and do not feel like doing anything that involves much effort of going far from home or socialising.

I am still suffering with intermittent aches and pains but they seem less frequent and long lasting. Still finding that I have to pace myself when doing things. So activity then rest so normal day to day things seem to be taking longer. Although not right I feel I am now referring to being sick as being in the past. "I have been ill" as opposed to "I am ill".

@kikashi how are you doing?

treedragon · 31/03/2018 22:00

So the GP I saw that said expect this to take about 12 week was not wrong. I think I will still feel not fully right for perhaps another 4 weeks.

I spoke to someone who had another virus that sounded similar to this a couple of years ago and she said that it took about 4 months to feel well again.

At least it's a bank holiday now anyway. I have nothing planned except just resting up still and doing a few chores.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 01/04/2018 09:34

When you say aches do you mean shooting pains all over? This is what I have had for two days and it seems to go
Hand in hand with my tiredness

treedragon · 01/04/2018 10:26

@calledyoulastnightfromglasgow

The pain part has been odd. At it’s worse (weeks 1-2) it felt like every bone in my body had been broken. Even my toes and fingers ached. My hip acehed where it was hard to move and walk and same with knees and legs. My shoulder ached like mad too. The paid was a painful ache but would also feel like a shooting or fizzing pains sometimes with pins and needles and also the feeling like a hard gym work out. My spine also felt “sore” like a gym work out.

river1 · 01/04/2018 11:42

thanks Kikashi,

I'm 5 days into amoxicillin (4 days till holiday :-(). but no improvement at all. Hate taking antibiotics anyway and only did so because of the holiday, now they are not working. Go back to GP on Tuesday or assume it's viral and I just have to ride it out (and abx probably making things worse in screwing with my gut)?

treedragon · 01/04/2018 12:55

Antibiotics only work for any secondary bacterial infection. They won’t eradicate the virus which is the part that takes the time.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/04/2018 13:03

Round 2 for me as well. First go was migraine, shivers, sweating, wiped out, aches and pains. This one is fluorescent green mucus, coughing to the point of being sick, headache, sweats and a weird spacey feeling. I am not exaggerating to say I have coughed non-stop for three days now and I am exhausted. Also really fed up. Been looking forward to this bank holiday off, the weather here is sunny and I'm stuck in bed (but unable to sleep or nap) coughing and retching. Also slightly panicking about the spacey feeling.

PlausibleSuit · 01/04/2018 13:14

I'm in

I've had something that sounds like this for 10 days now. I call it the Pelican because it's all throat. Throat and chest tight, really hurty cough and sore eyes. A bit achy, sometimes. If I cough too hard my head hurts. Lemsip doesn't touch it. I'm not sleeping much because I get all hot and cold, and I cough more when I lie down.

I'm normally very resistant to coughs, colds and so on but this one has latched on a bit. Sounds like many of you have had it worse, though. I'm battling on.

BLEURGH

UnRavellingFast · 02/04/2018 00:26

Hi can I join you? I developed this while we were away. It's frighteningly horrible isn't it. The coughing rips your throat out. I can hear horrible whistling in my throat and I find myself moaning and wailing which is something I NEVER EVER do. It seems to help in a weird way! I take myself downstairs to indulge so dcs don't have to listen ! My ears and eyes are so painful. Fuck this bug!! I am just alternating paracetamol and nurofen plus sucking usefulness cough sweets. Doc while away gave me ABs but a&e (where 111 sent me) said it's viral but I could finish the course 'if I liked'.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 02/04/2018 01:54

Oh thank God I’ve found my people. I’ve had this now for around 2.5 weeks. Started off with all the symptoms everyone has described. The high temperatures have been a particular treat, 39-40 degrees, hallucinations, like my brain is boiling in my skull. Whoever described the bone pain as being like every bone had been broken- yes! Never known anything like it. Feel like I’ve been hit by a car. Blood oxygen was bad last Thursday and doctor has diagnosed Pneumonia. On antibiotics but coming up to 4th full day and don’t feel much better.... I’m so tired I’m falling asleep mid sentence. I’m a teacher so at least now it’s the Easter holidays but what a way to spend them!

Looks like I’m in for the long haul with this then. My immune system is fucked anyway- Lupus- but the kids and DH seem to have avoided it lingering or had a less dreadful version of it.

So- what do we do? Anyone found a magic bullet? I’m currently awake because I can barely swallow and my tongue and the roof of my mouth feel like I’ve drunk acid.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 02/04/2018 02:00

Don’t know how I didn’t mention the cough UnRavelling. I understand why the now say “a frog in your throat” because when I breathe it sounds like there’s a pissed off toad sat in the centre of my larynx. My parents came over today and were taken aback by the cough- it’s so violent and painful and hacking. I wonder if that’s the source of the sore throat?

UnRavellingFast · 02/04/2018 04:20

@FellOutOfBed2wice yy to the box of frogs in throat! Oh it's a right treat this one, isn't it. I get around an hour's sleep before being woken up by the most god awful hacking. I can hear my lungs' contents shifting about like cat litter! Fucking bug ruined our trip. I also have an auto immune condition but symptoms of that are no different atm. I desperately want to feel better!
