Hoping it's ok to start a part 2 of our thread, since the first one got to 1000 posts and isn't accepting any new messages:

Can’t believe so many people have this. To make a long story short, had it for two weeks at Christmas whilst expected to wine and dine with all my in-laws in gorgeous hotel down the country! At the end of the holidays had to get antibiotics and steroid to get rid of it. I have asthma as well, so I spend about three weeks really choked up, and huffing and puffing my way up stairs, etc.

So, I was livid when I went into work on Monday and receptionist sneezing and coughing all over the office. Sure enough, contracted the exact same flu as at Christmas. Whole Easter holiday spent in bed, just about alive now!

PeonyTruffle · 02/04/2018 11:45

Still ill Envy
DH has been in charge of 3yr old since Friday (cos you know sickness and health and all that)

He declared this morning that I need to be in charge today as he’s tired and going back to work tomorrow.
Yeah ok, I’ll just jump up despite not eating since Thursday night, bedridden since Friday and having taken codeine for the pain for the last couple of days and look after the Easter egg sugar filled, bored, inquisitive toddler. Super.

That went down like a sack of shit as you can imagine.

(If any of you are single parenting whilst coping with this, I take my hat off to you and offer a virtual high 5)

mammymammyIRL · 05/04/2018 10:37

peony how inconsiderate of you to be ill on a day your dh has off Grin
Dh did some work for a friend an entire day he was off while I was in the thick of it, and then lambasted me with how I needed to see a psychologist as I couldn't be sick for that long and it was all in my head. This was the straw that broke the camels back as it were, in an emotionally abusive relationship and I have told him now our marriage is over.

Coincidentally I've started to feel much better and have been well now for two consistent weeks but still need to pace myself. Obviously I'm not suggesting you do the same but commiserating and showing you that there is light at end of tunnel. It's exactly three months today since I got unwell and I've been better for two weeks.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 05/04/2018 15:14

mammy I’m very sorry (or perhaps not?) to hear about your husband. Being ill can take it’s toll long term on even the best relationships.

I’m Day 19ish here and have gone out for the first time in ten days that wasn’t to the doctor (although it is to the dentist 😳) and feel very tired and worn out. Very weepy today, can’t make head nor tail of why really.

kikashi · 05/04/2018 15:52

Week 15 here - still not quite right. I'm "better" but still struggling with fatigue (walked for 4 miles today, glorious day on the Downs, should have been a stroll for me but it was not enjoyable, it was a trail), trying to rebuild my stamina.

Still having false sense of motion and ear fullness issues and persistent sniffles, bit of a cough - my chest just does not feel right. My DP is also still unwell after 13 weeks - both trying to fulfill work commitments etc. but all get up and go and verve is sadly lacking. The DC are fine though.

kikashi · 05/04/2018 15:53

trial not trail

Howyoualldoworkme · 05/04/2018 16:30

First time posting about The Virus!
I had it from just after Christmas until the end of February with the most dreadful joint and limb pains. I have arthritis anyway so took ibuprofen.

However three weeks ago I had the most dreadful chest, arm and shoulder pains and was really worried it was a heart attack (am over 60) It died down and I went to the emergency doctor and it turned out to be acid reflux and gastritis from taking more ibuprofen than usual!
So now I'm on Omeprazole and have to adapt my diet accordingly. The reflux was also responsible for the ongoing cough and sore throat and I now cannot take anti inflammatories for my arthritis

Definitely the gift that keeps on giving Sad

mammymammyIRL · 05/04/2018 18:41

Kikashi exactly that even a walk is pushing it, so while better not better. I think I'm more like 90% better now when I was only 50% better when I went back to work.

Fellout not sorry but glad that I've come to a decision.

VickieCherry · 05/04/2018 18:52

Oh my goodness, my people! I'm on my second round - first one in late Feb, second a month later. It's hideous. The way it changes every day, the way you feel better one day and then are knocked out again the next... I'm exhausted and I swear I've aged 5 years. I keep doing face masks and nothing helps. Even my hair looks sad and limp!

I've had very high temps, aching joints, bone-tired, razorblade throat, blocked sinuses, low-grade cold, horrid dry tickly cough, headaches every day... the works. On Saturday night my fever was so high I kept hearing Prince Charles taking to me very loudly whenever I tried to fall asleep Shock

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 05/04/2018 19:35

I was about to post that a week later I am much better albeit still coughing.

But nope, I am exhausted again today and more throat is sore.

Damned bug

Autofill · 05/04/2018 20:04

Is this some type of superbug or something that’s turned my world on it’s head. I’ve had this since the start of Feb been off work twice for a week each and it’s come back again and I’m worse third time round. These are my symptoms which are all on the right hand side... can anyone relate to the below? I’ve had Doxycycline for 5 days which didn’t help and blood tests came back clear.

“Feelings of enlarged glands down into neck, Sinus pain pressure and blockage no congestion, ear is popping continually, sinuses are creaking, Random head and neck pains, Pressure feeling in ear, behind ear and into jaw, Sensitive ear feeling full on and off, Funny taste in mouth, Occasional pain pressure in eye, Extreme fatigue, muscles go limp, no energy, need to sit after any exercise, Weepy, losing interest in usual activities” I’m on holiday at the moment and struggling to even walk for 20 mins without crumpling.

God my family are sick of me...

UnRavellingFast · 05/04/2018 20:10

@VickieCherry On Saturday night my fever was so high I kept hearing Prince Charles taking to me very loudly whenever I tried to fall asleep

GrinGrinGrin

He didn't mention tampons did he? Confused

VickieCherry · 05/04/2018 20:42

@UnRavellingFast 😂🤢

PlausibleSuit · 06/04/2018 11:51

@Autofill I can relate to most of that. I'm functioning - just - but feeling pretty hideous. Had it a couple of weeks now. Weak and achy, sore eyes, a cough that makes me sound like a gearbox. Not firing on all cylinders mentally. Flicky eyelids on both sides. I'm OK if I stay in and do nothing but struggle to sleep as I cough so much when I lie down. I don't know what it is; it's not like flu but it's way worse than a cold. Grim.

The upshot is I've been catching up on my pile of books to read.

kikashi · 06/04/2018 12:28

Plausible good description - it isn't like a normal flu or cold or even a bad virus where you are really ill for a week or so and then feel better (if a little weak). Enjoy the books.

UnRavellingFast · 06/04/2018 13:34

I've found also that I start recovering and seem ok-ish to outside world but feel so weak I can't get anything done. I find it difficult explaining this to work and college as I feel like I'm being a whinger!

VickieCherry · 06/04/2018 15:01

I'm also finding the exhaustion the hardest to cope with. If I'm actually ill I'll just go to bed until I feel better (as I did last night - had a fever again, why!), but the lingering day-to-day tiredness means I try to get up and get going, but can't actually do it. The house is a tip, I've masses of unfinished projects hanging around, and some nights I'm too tired to even drag myself upstairs to bed.

At least now I'm losing my voice, so I sound ill...

treedragon · 07/04/2018 22:51

I’m into week 13 now. Well since 7 January I have been ill.

I feel like I am starting to put “being sick” in the past tense but I can truthfully say I am still not right.

I tire very easily and still have random aches and pains, headaches on and off.

It’s a very powerful virus this.

ForkIt · 07/04/2018 23:11

I’m SO glad I’ve found this! I’ve been starting to worry about my mental health!

I’ve had weeks of joint pain, I struggle to get through the day without a nap, days of jaw pain/ weird teeth pain. I’m so tired and run down and it’s gone on so long it’s hard to deal with

treedragon · 11/04/2018 23:00

It’s horrible @forkit

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 12/04/2018 08:48

How is everyone?!

I’m on the mend as my cough is going but still wakes up feeling sore throaty and today I ache again!

It’s the Groundhog Day bug!

2old2beamum · 12/04/2018 11:51

All your messages sum up how I feel! And I am old !

mammymammyIRL · 12/04/2018 22:24

I think I'm better. This is week 3 of feeling ok. Really have to pace myself as energy levels haven't returned to normal but I'm symptom free. Payslip tells me this is week 15 this year so it lasted 11/12 weeks.

treedragon · 17/04/2018 21:31

@mammymammyIRL

Same for me. Symptom free but still tire easily and have aching spells.

7th January I can identify the start to.

How is everyone else? @kikashi how are you and other half doing? @avuncularis ???

mammynowanauntyIRL · 17/04/2018 22:45

@treedragon hopefully things will only get better from now on
