Hi have already posted re my gallstones. I have been trying to follow a low fat diet but not sure how low to go. Do I have to cut out fat completely (don't you need some fat for certain body functions)or is there a set percentage I can have.
I assume vegetable better than animal?
I like things like cheese and mayo are there any decent alternatives or do I accept can't have.

Tortoise is there an actual reason low fat diet recommended?
Needing a bit of encouragemeent to stay on it.

Babyramone - yes there is good reason.
The gall bladder stores bile. The fatty foods cause the gall bladder to release bile. The gall stones are in the bile so as the bile is released the stones can become trapped in the opening which is what causes the pain.
All the low fat diet does is reduce the risk of the attacks.

Hope that helps you stay focused.

Thanks Tortoise.
I had a feeling was sometinkg like that but wasn't really sure of biology behind it all.
My friend is getting her op tomorrow so I'll be able to fill you all in on what to expect.
I phoned hospital and I'll have mine done by no later than 24th oct. The woman on waiting list expected september.

thats sounds good. Not too long for you to wait then.
At the moment i am going to try and stick with the diet and avoid the op. Too difficult for me to have it done at the moment.what with DD's having no-one but me.

No attacks for a while now - still no report been sent to my GP.

Hope you girls are ok?

sassygirl33 · 16/07/2007 15:35

scratch my first post - I feel an attack coming on - just had corned beef roll??? To be honest though, I haven't felt right all day - so it doesn't surprise me. I have both of my children's friends round at the moment too, so noT GREAT!!

sherbert · 16/07/2007 21:44

AM having my operation on Wednesday. Will let you know all about it when I am out.

sassygirl33 · 18/07/2007 12:38

Good luck Sherbert - we will be thinking of you sweetie, take care xxx

Babyramone · 18/07/2007 17:38

Good luck Sherbet
My friend has had her's out and recommends resting lots. She had her's out last thursday and had to stay in couple of days as blood pressure was high but feels ready to go back to work monday coming.
I phoned to see where I was on list. Prob getting done september unless cancellation or have other attack.
Have been a bit gippy in that area but noticed on an other thread that drinking lots of water can help, so tried this and so far so good.

I have been ok too. Hope to stay attack free too although i do have dd1's leavers bbq tonight!

sassygirl33 · 20/07/2007 11:15

Hi Tortoise

Glad to hear you are well - I have had very small attacks over the last few weeks, but nothing i couldn't handle. Back to work on Thursday. Am very emotional today as DS leaves primary school and starts secondary in September - feels like someone has died [cry]

tortoise · 21/07/2007 22:35

Getting confussed with two threads! Shall i start a gall stone sufferers support thread?

sassygirl33 · 22/07/2007 11:05
