Hi have already posted re my gallstones. I have been trying to follow a low fat diet but not sure how low to go. Do I have to cut out fat completely (don't you need some fat for certain body functions)or is there a set percentage I can have.
I assume vegetable better than animal?
I like things like cheese and mayo are there any decent alternatives or do I accept can't have.

I took my buscopan today as I felt a potential attack coming on - nothing happened so far. I now have bad pain in my jaw where I think I have an impacted wisdom tooth I have had 3 taken out - so am on paracetamol

So glad to hear you are alright. I am sure my attacks are just a build up, seems to be happening every 4-5 days, with particular link to food. My scan is on thursday at 3.30, can't eat for 6 hours before hand either. I have to go to DS school that evening too(he goes to secondary school in September) so I hope the scan is quick.

tortoise · 30/06/2007 21:24

Oh dear. I hope jaw pain goes soon and you don't have an attack.
I am nervous from eating a pile of chips with pizza and then banana in custard for pudding! Bit risky but we shall see.

I had my scan on a morning. I was glad i did because i would of missed food in the day time but as i had gone all night without food i was ok to not eat until after the scan!

The scan is quite quick depending on if they have any delays. And you should get told the results as soon as its done. i was but had to make an appointment with my Dr for after the results got to him.

RLR · 30/06/2007 23:14

hi all i had gall stones, it all came about while i was pg, when i had dd [sailed through labour like it was nothing due to the horrid pain with gall stones labour pain wasnt half as bad]i had my gall bladder removed just so you know when you have the op they will tell you that after the op things could still be the same
or you may get other health issues, IBS, or the same pains as when you had gall stones

the doctor told me theres no explanation for this as hes had lots of people who have had their gall stones and bladders removed and still have the pain.

i know it sounds weird [still havin pain]

but both me and my sis had the same op [gall bladders removed] and we both still get pain like the gall stone pain but some times not as bad. i also have IBS and it really get me down.

so we still have to watch what we eat as that triggers it off

just thought i should share my experience so you know your not alone .

Babyramone · 30/06/2007 23:47

Hi everyone have had two small attacks in the last couple of days.
It's my own fault as had got lax with my diet (ate big wad of ben and jerrys).
Pain was manageable though with my pills.
Sassy and tortoise sorry to hear your both suffering.
I got my letter from Hosp saying thats me on list and hopefully it won't be long.
Really nervous though, don't fancy general
and am worried about not lifting my DD. Mind you she's 9 months and a dottle (only just in 6-9 clothes, 3-6 still ok)so shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Have been trying to spring clean my house in preparation for OP. DH is great with kids but rubbish round house. I'm not very house proud either but want to make it easy for my elf and keep it presentable and Am pleased to say nearly there.
RLR that's interesting about the symptons not going completely.

started getting spasms last night, so took 2 buscopan again and it went completely - maybe they aren't as bad as I imagined?? I hope if I do have the op the pain does go away???

sassygirl33 · 01/07/2007 10:56

Babyramone - what tablets have you been prescribed?

Tortoise - thanks for the info.

RLR - sorry the op didn't work out for you

tortoise · 01/07/2007 21:04

RLR That doesn't sound good. Sorry to hear you are still suffering.

Babyramone Sorry you have had more attacks but am glad the tablets are working.

Sassy Glad your tablets seemed to stop the attack.

I was fine last night! All the fatty foods and no problems. Been back to being good most of today, made some yummy soup for tea and had pitta bread with salad for lunch.

sassygirl33 · 03/07/2007 13:51

Been totally fine for the past few days - without taking meds - even had a mcdonalds breakfast yesterday (I couldn't resist) No niggly pains or anything - makes me think my turn will be soon - it's been too quiet for too long! Hope you all are still ok?

tortoise · 03/07/2007 17:00

Hi sassygirl.
I have been ok too. Not eaten too badly though apart from a few biscuits that we made at the weekend.
I tried my 1st wholemeal pitta bread today. have to say i prefer white!

sassygirl33 · 03/07/2007 17:38

Glad to hear it Tortoise, and I am really starting to believe that gallstones aren't affected by what you eat - you either get them or you don't???? Making meatballs with a healthy salad tonight. Seem the tooth pain is subsiding too. Still worry every time I eat though - do you???

tortoise · 03/07/2007 17:57

I don't worry quite as much when i eat now. I am really trying to stick to lower fat foods to reduce the risk, even though, like you, i am doubting the fatty food link.

I don't know what to have for tea. Not much food in the house.

sassygirl33 · 03/07/2007 22:34

The meatballs turned out fab, kids didn't eat them though, but DH had second helpings, couldnt have been that bad. Lots of salad with it too, seem ok so far. I hope you managed to make something at least for dinner??

tortoise · 03/07/2007 22:37

I had a sandwich in the end!
Didn't fancy anything else.

Glad your meatballs went well. Are they easy to make?

chocolateteapot · 03/07/2007 22:38

Please give me a huge kick up the backside and get me back on track, I've been rubbish and am in bed having had two codeine, two buscopan and my my hot wheat bag on my side, ouch. We're in the middle of moving and I've been really lax with watching what I eat and trying to lose weight. I am going to try harder as of tomorrow as this hurts.

tortoise · 03/07/2007 22:43

Oh dear chocolateteapot thats sounds awful (although am of you mning in bed!).
Is the pain not enough of a kick? it is for me but usually only for about a week then i slip back into bad ways.
So i am not the best person to give you a kick.

I need to try harder too. I have been scoffing the biscuits that i made for the DC. Now there are none left.

chocolateteapot · 03/07/2007 22:55

It is, but I am the same as you, I am good for a week then slip again. I'm going to join Rosemary Conley I think when we move, my friend has been going and doing well and that's based on 5% fat or less.

What I eat does seem to affect mine, if I stick to low fat I don't usually get attacks so it is my own fault.

tortoise · 03/07/2007 22:57

Good luck with that. I might have a look online for some idea. I have my 1st ever veg box being dekivered Thursday. Im hoping that will give me ideas too.

I spoke to soon!!! I had another pretty bad attack about half an hour ago, had lasagne and potato wedges. I took my meds but am not sure they actually did very much. Scan tomorrow, fingers crossed!!!

tortoise · 04/07/2007 21:26

Good luck with the scan tomorrow sassygirl. Sorry you had another attack. Did it last just half an hour?
I haven't hadn't anymore attacks yet...

Babyramone · 05/07/2007 09:16

good luck Sassy. Let us know how it goes.

OP posts:
sassygirl33 · 05/07/2007 11:26

It lasted about 45 minutes and I couldn't sit down, lay down, walk around anything - that is the hard thing, it is just uncomfortable doing anything. As soon as the pain went I felt totally back to normal.

I will update you all later on - scan is at 3.30,but I have to go to DSs new school afterwards, so it will be later on this evening. Keep well ladies!!!

sassygirl33 · 05/07/2007 17:48

Well...............I have gallstones and fatty liver deposits I had to ask what they saw as the radiographer wasn't that communicative. She said it wasn't anything sinister??? I am worried though.

tortoise · 05/07/2007 19:16

I have no idea about the fatty deposits. best to talk to your dr about that. Asume she would of said if it was anything to worry about.
At least it proved the gall stones too though. Do you have to go back and see you Dr for the results too?

tortoise · 05/07/2007 19:18

Copied and pasted from a website-

Many middle-aged people with excess fat in the abdominal area have a "fatty liver". In this condition the liver has stopped burning fat and has turned into a fat storing organ. It becomes enlarged and swollen with greasy deposits of fatty tissue. Those with a fatty liver will not be able to lose weight unless they first improve liver function, with a liver cleansing diet and a good liver tonic. If you have a fatty liver it is vital to be patient, as it can take between 3 to 12 months, depending upon the amount of fat deposited in the liver, to remove the excess fat from the liver. After this accumulated liver fat has been removed, weight loss will occur easily. If you have a very severe case of fatty liver it can take several years to lose all of the excessive weight.

However, this is very successful in the long term and provides the best chance of restoring your figure and your health. Fatty liver is common and doctors often tell their patients with this problem not to worry too much because it is not serious. I disagree with this, because if you have a fatty liver, your chances of high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and mature-onset diabetes are significantly higher. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to find a fatty liver in adolescents who consume a diet high in processed and fast foods.

Not sure how useful that is to you but looks like its nothing too serious.
