I've already booked the GP appointment as I'm getting another issue checked out. I thought this was a pen mark but it's not. I was merely curious about it when I googled but noted skin melanoma is associated with black lines like these. I haven't hit it recently to cause trauma and it doesn't hurt.

Erm - anyone else had this?

Good re Monday. Just don't let them fob you off and make sure a dermatologist has a look. Let us know how you get on.

snewsname · 22/02/2018 07:53

Fingers crossed for you.

MrsEricBana · 26/02/2018 13:54

Hi ImmortalityMyDarlings How did you get on at the GP?

TwitterQueen1 · 26/02/2018 18:48

Hello again OP.

It's me again. As MrsEricBana says, how did you get on?

Btw, in case you're wondering, I have several black lines on my finger nails but they appeared after I started chemo for ovarian cancer.

I ignored my symptoms and it's too late for me now. I don't want others to ignore anything that might be even ever so slightly suspicious. This is why I am nagging you.

Timefortea99 · 26/02/2018 18:56

I wore hiking boots that were too big and my foot banged the top of the boot. I ended up with a big bruise. I knew it was a bruise but my DH nagged at me to go to the GO. He kept showing me images of melanomas - including a lot that look like straight lines. I eventually went to GP and they sent me to a specialist to make sure all was okay. As suspected mine was a bruise but why I am writing is my GP sent me to see a specialist - and Inam amazed that yours did not know about melanomas like lines, and the fact that he did not refer you on. Don't be polite. Print off images, see another GP, demand a referral. It is probably nothing - but let a specialist tell you it's nothing, not a generalist.

snewsname · 26/02/2018 21:48

twitter that's so sad. Thanks

How did you get on op?

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 27/02/2018 08:11

@TwitterQueen1 I followed your other thread from the start of your journey, still thinking of you Flowers

OP I hope you got on well. I had a similar line as a child and it took almost a year to grow out - hope yours is equally innocuous.

TwitterQueen1 · 27/02/2018 08:39

Thank you Thomas and snews

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 27/02/2018 11:20

Ok so I just had a biopsy for a suspect breast lump and so I can't quite handle this as well. I know that if it's bad news with the lump tomorrow with the consultant I will flag this damn thumb thing up and even if it's not I promise I won't leave it because of all you lot have said. I've also found a private melanoma clinic which is local to me too as well as an organisation called Melanoma Focus which is a helpline I found out about at the breast cancer clinic.

MrsEricBana · 27/02/2018 11:49

I am very sorry to hear your update OP but I guess if there is any doubt at all about the lump it's excellent that they're doing a biopsy. Let's hope it's either nothing or something they can easily treat. I know breast cancer can be extremely serious but I also know lots of people who have been successfully treated for it and are going strong years later if it does come to that. Yes I agree flag the nail up after tomorrow. I don't want to keep badgering you for updates but thinking of you.

snewsname · 27/02/2018 12:29

Breast cancer is really common. I know loads of women who have been successfully treated. I've had a different cancer too, so I know how scary it all is. At least you are on the right path. Good luck for tomorrow. Fingers crossed for you Thanks

MrsEricBana · 28/02/2018 16:34

Hope you had good news today 💐

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 02/03/2018 10:56

Hope you're ok OP Thanks

TroubleInSnowland · 02/03/2018 14:41

Your breast consultant should be trained in melanoma too. They’re both subjects on the plastic surgery curriculum. Hope all is well.

snewsname · 02/03/2018 15:35

How are you op?

MrsEricBana · 03/03/2018 09:15

I am wondering how you are too ImmortalityMyDarlings. Hope all ok.

TwitterQueen1 · 03/03/2018 16:50

You shouldn't need to go to a private clinic OP. As others have said, this is something you should flag with your current team. They will look into it. Hope you're OK. And it's worth noting that even if breast cancer is confirmed it is very treatable with a high success rate.

BarrackerBarmer · 03/03/2018 17:02

I'm sorry to hear about your lump, hope it's benign.

But please
Get a second opinion on the nail.
Your GP has ALREADY proved his ignorance with the 'don't grow in a straight line' comment. That is exactly what they do.

It's also possible that you didn't notice the line immediately (it wouldn't have been a full stripe necessarily at first)

I've looked at pics of this before and knew before I clicked on the link what you need to have checked out from your header alone.

Wishing you good luck with all this.

Rememory · 07/03/2018 18:47

How are you OP?

bobstersmum · 15/03/2018 18:33

Hi op, how are you doing, I've been thinking about you, hope all is OK!

MrsEricBana · 17/03/2018 17:00

Me too.

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 01/06/2018 07:40

Long time no speak but update - have been back to GP (new one this time) after being persuaded to by a specialist dermotology nurse (from Melanoma Focus). Doc sent a photo of my nail to a dermatologist at the local hospital. Will get a text from GP on next steps. GP said he’d not seen anything like it before but seemed to know about melanoma more than the last GP and said it looked like it was in the nail rather than under it, which was reassuring.

stressedoutfred · 01/06/2018 17:33

That sounds like good news op

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 11/06/2018 12:49

Seeing dermotologist at the hospital next week, in the two week referral timeline. Wonder if they will have to biopsy. Ugh. This ain’t fun.

DeathByMascara · 11/06/2018 13:13

I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to stress. At least it’s being looked at now & you’re not being fobbed off!
