Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Oh god I thought I was moreless better.
Today I've a headache ear ache and voice is croaky again.
I'm sorting out the spare room. Sat on floor mostly sifting through old paperwork, clothes and junk just put in there. Not exactly strenuous. I came over all weak and wobbly. Stopped for food and drink thinking that was the cause but 45 minutes since food and drink i feel weak and shaky.
When will this end?

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/03/2018 13:35

It is the most horrific virus...day after day with no let up at all. I am now going into week 3 and can still barely stand with dizziness. Sometimes I feel a little better but it just gives you false hope as you slide back down again to feeling weak and in pain. The coughing is relentless. I feel so very low right now.😥

treedragon · 06/03/2018 15:11

@Autofill

I feel like I have no strength and feel achey.

Had a nice Epsom Salt bath yesterday which was soothing.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 06/03/2018 16:57

I need advice from fellow sufferers- off work for the second week. The sore throat has gone, no appetite, horrible cough still going strong plus the constant headaches and I now have a urinary infection.
My main concern is how tired I feel. Going to bed at 10 ish and sleeping until 1.
I have to return to work next week. When does the tiredness stop?

nancpants · 06/03/2018 18:35

Saw the doc who said that it was probably glandular fever that set in during January (not the flu) and then bouts of tonsillitis since then. I've got antibiotics for the tonsillitis and then a blood test for g.fever after I finish the tablets. Don't think that helps anyone, but thought I'd report back.

Anyone feel as though the return of the large orangey-yellow ball of fire in the sky might help a bit?

Bananas I had 3 weeks off work, took me another couple of weeks to get rid of the tiredness. Just starting to feel human again now . Try and rest as much as possible and don’t push yourself too hard

EggysMom · 06/03/2018 20:53

My coughing has virtually disappeared.

It has been replaced by a sore throat and losing my voice. Almost as though I coughed too much, too hard, so my throat gave up.

Sheesh. I've very fed up of this now.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 06/03/2018 20:54

Thanks User for your reply.

RickOShay · 06/03/2018 20:58

Bananas snap!
I am in week 3. The dizziness is awful, i feel like i am in space. I keep getting terrible headaches and the sweats, I have had enough, just want it to go now. Also sore throat.
Just want to get on with my life Grin

RickOShay · 06/03/2018 21:00

Looking on the plus side i have lost a lot of weight, but it’s a vicious circle, because no energy

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 06/03/2018 21:12

Another sufferer here. Week 4 or 5 of a horrendous virus - week one started as general aches and pains, week two was the worst sore throat I’ve ever had and a barking cough, felt like a had a golf ball stuck in the back of my throat, also week two and three was dizziness and so much green phlegm I could have filled a pool. Also had two bouts of bacterial conjunctivitis to add insult to injury, which I have never had in my life before. Week four and a bit now and I’ve still got the cough and I’ve pulled the muscles in my left rib and have been in agony since last Thursday 😫. I now also feel like another sore throat is coming along. I just want to be well damn it!!

RickOShay · 06/03/2018 21:23

It’s like a plague
I have never been as ill for as long in my life

LondonStill83 · 06/03/2018 21:26

Gargle with mashed up paracetamol in warm water and lots of salt. Only thing that helps. Xxx

RickOShay · 06/03/2018 21:30

Thanks london
any tips for dizziness?

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 06/03/2018 21:35

Doctor told me to take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours for the headache. It’s working for me. I went to the doctors yesterday and checked about still taking paracetamol, was told to continue.
I have gone off tea! Only want to drink water.

FreshTart · 06/03/2018 21:53

Into week 3 here, started as worst sore throat ever, developed laryngitis so no voice for a week, added to that pounding headache, ear ache, hacking cough and complete fatigue. Voice is better now but throat still sore, and just when I think its on the way out, I wake up feeling unable to swallow and as if my tongue has swollen down the side and towards the back. But the tiredness - complete wipe out after doing the smallest of tasks. Dry sore eyes and feeling hot then cold, though no temperature to measure. Worst virus ever

treedragon · 06/03/2018 22:21

I’ve been ill just over 8 weeks with it now. With varying symptoms daily.

Now I feel utterly wiped out doing small tasks and feel achey a lot of the time.

RubySlippers77 · 06/03/2018 23:52

Week 10 here and I'm feeling the best I've felt so far in 2018... not 100% by any means but better. The horrible aches and pains seem to be easing and I'm only coughing up gunk a couple of times a day - progress!

I've now developed conjunctivitis which I'm guessing is because my immune system is now so rubbish - can't fight things off like it should. But still, I'd rather have a gunky eye than feel like I did at the beginning of the year.

Hugs and Thanks to everyone still in the thick of it - it's a horrible, horrible virus and seems never ending Sad

Bexf1986 · 07/03/2018 02:02

Am on day 6 and honestly feel like every day is worse than the last. Started with complete loss of voice which has continued for the 6 days, getting better with squeaks but it hurts more to talk. The first day by the evening my throat was so sore it was agony (and still is) to swallow. I've not eaten, except half a tin of soup, and some jelly and ice cream over the past 6 days. Yesterday I was just nauseous and vomiting which I presume is because of an empty stomach and taking co codamol in the vain hope that it will help at some point ( it hasn't yet)

I have a 1 year old to look after, and apart from being completely terrified that she will get this agonising pain too, it's exhausting. Family and friends have really helped, but there's still the organising of everything and the morning time where I'm lying down on the sofa and she's in a pit of toys in the desperate hope she doesn't notice I'm dozing.

Really is completely awful - i went to a walk in clinic, and was smiled at, pitied and told it's a virus so just carry on resting .

I feel like I'm completely wallowing in self pity but just crying in pain isn't getting me any where fast - please let me know there's light at the end of the tunnel! I hope...

treedragon · 07/03/2018 08:06

@RubySlippers77

Have you had quite bad body aches at 8 to 10 weeks with this? I have and I am getting concerned it’s more than just a virus.

Kikashi · 07/03/2018 09:37

Week 11 - Hi all! treedragon - I still have aches and pains especially in my knees and upper arms. I wonder if this is how it feels to be elderly and frail? Still have mucus issues and a stuffed up nose, bit of a cough, sneezes. Just don't feel like me - feel weird.

A longstanding inner ear condition that I have had under control for the past few years seems to be coming back with a vengeance. Feeling dizzy, spacey, full ears. Hardly been out of the house and then only for very short periods of time and when I do I feel quite panicky/anxious and have to try to quell it - sometimes still feeling like this in the house too whilst just watching TV or reading. Feeling down today - taking iron, magnesium etc but just have so little verve.

Best wishes to all

RubySlippers77 · 07/03/2018 10:25

A few aches and pains still treedragon but nothing like as bad as it was - taking painkillers occasionally still when things are painful but not popping pills just to function as I was for weeks!

There's a condition called reactive arthritis which you can develop - if you're still suffering perhaps it's worth looking into that and/ or a trip to your GP for some blood tests?

Same for me kikashi, it seems to be tailing off now - hope your ear condition improves soon too - I think this virus destroys our immune system Sad

TheInvisiblePieceofShit · 07/03/2018 16:54

Week 4. So far have had 10 days absolute full bed rest. Further 4 days where I got out of bed for 3 or hours and say on the saga instead.
Not returned to work and bern snowed in so taking it easy.
Today was my first day out of the house. 10 until 3.30. Omg my throat aches now, my head hurts and I'm trying to stay awake until tea is cooked.
I feel like jelly all the time. I'm so fed up!

TheInvisiblePieceofShit · 07/03/2018 16:55

Bexf1986 · 07/03/2018 23:22

I went to the doctors again today, the pain I was in was agony. I just cried in front of him like some sort of helpless child but he was excellent. I have a nasty ear infection in both ears which he has given me antibiotics for and much stronger painkillers. I'm making sure I'm taking them when there is someone else to look after my little girl or someone else is in the house, but wow the difference. I can still feel the awful pain as they wear off, and I still can't eat, or drink much. Haven't moved much today except to the doctors, sipping on vitamin drinks in vain. For those people on weeks and weeks of this I just salute you! I hope everyone feels better soon. My voice is returning slightly but it really hurts to talk so I just try not to.
