If you tried a banana skin on your verruca, did it work?

As title. If you tried banana skin, did it actually work?

I've given up on Bazuka gel doing anything, so I've started with the banana today. (Buying tea tree oil tomorrow!) How hopeful should I be about the Banana Skin Method?

No. But duct tape did!

CedricDiggory · 01/01/2018 23:19

I tried everything with mine. Nothing worked apart from nail varnish

scotjls · 01/01/2018 23:23

Bazucca + constant plaster worked a treat for us. Large verucca sorted in 2 weeks, now completely gone.

Ihavepatrick · 01/01/2018 23:25

Zinc tablets worked for my ds after years of trying various remedies

Theonlyoneiknow · 01/01/2018 23:28

I need to address mine! Did you just put duct tape over them and leave it?

AHintOfStyle · 01/01/2018 23:30

Sorry just place marking to find out.

HuskyMcClusky · 01/01/2018 23:30

Yep!

It was a wart, though - a big stubborn one, had it for years. Tried everything and then did the banana thing and it disappeared.

superram · 01/01/2018 23:44

Yes I have, no it didn’t, neither did dust tape. Occlusal does!

LessMoneyMoreProblems · 01/01/2018 23:46

Following as D'S has one!

SouthWestmom · 02/01/2018 00:05

Cider vinegar was the only thing that worked.

Clean nail file every night, cotton wool damped with the vinegar and taped to verruca. Removed inthe morning. Improved within a few days and went completely within a couple of weeks.

Lambside · 02/01/2018 00:08

Yes and no it didn't. Think mine are actually soft corns after reading another MN thread a year or so ago.

GoingRogue · 02/01/2018 00:17

Watching.

ferriswheel · 02/01/2018 00:18

What exactly is the banana duct tape thing?

meandmytinfoilhat · 02/01/2018 00:32

Banana skin worked on my sons verucca

Thymeout · 02/01/2018 00:43

Bazooka Extra Strength, applied every day. Used a clean craft knife to cut off dead skin. Stop if it hurts. Means skin isn't dead enough. Continue as before. Takes about 10days to 2 weeks and then the root drops out. Folk remedies never worked for me.

SwedishEdith · 02/01/2018 00:59

I think it did along with duct tape. I think it's cutting off the light and oxygen supply that kills it.

QueenCity · 02/01/2018 01:52

No but nail varnish has worked every time.

Shadow666 · 02/01/2018 02:13

I put hydrogen peroxide on DS's and it cleared up very quickly.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 02/01/2018 07:18

ferriswheel Previous threads in General Health report that duct taping pieces of banana skin to verrucas makes them go.

Ooh, love a new verruca remedy thread. I have had mine for 20+ years and have tried

  • all Bazookas
  • banana skin and duct tape
  • burying half a potato in the back garden on a full moon Grin
  • freezing from GP at regular appointments until he gave up and said it's not working. Worked on my mosaic ones tho.
  • salicyclic acid (same as Occlusal? I got really excited upthread as thought someone had found a new remedy Sad)
  • regular podiatrist appointments
  • formaldehyde ! Really. Old GP, 15yrs ago.
  • curetage. Basically, I went to hospital and had a local anaesthetic on my foot, and had them surgically removed! Surgeon dug the roots out, and I had huge craters in my feet. Had to have it all bandaged up, crutches, couldn't drive, had to have a few days off work. They came back Angry
  • folic acid when pregnant x 2. Worked for my sister so had high hopes.
  • 1000mg liposomal Vit C daily. As warts are usually a sign there's something wrong with your immune system, I spent £35 on a box of 30 of these sachets online. Didn't work.

I'm currently just wearing duct tape to keep them supple, and soaking/ filing regularly; they're on the pad of my left foot so when the hard skin builds up its sore to walk and drive.

I've given up!

Ihavepatrick have you got a link for the zinc tablets please?

SwedishEdith I believe warts are "fed" via the blood stream, so cutting off oxygen won't kill them.

QueenCity which nail varnish did you use?

GoingRogue · 02/01/2018 08:44

NHS link on verrucas

GoingRogue · 02/01/2018 22:25

Sorry OP, I killed your thread with my rambling ! Blush

mels66 · 03/01/2018 20:11

I had verrucas on the ball of my foot for 7 years, tried everything including having 'burnt' by doctors. Eventually tried white wine vinegar. Soak a small piece cotton wool in vinegar and apply to verruca overnight. I then had a bath in eve and used emery board on verruca then re applied. Verrucas all gone within around 4 weeks

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 03/01/2018 21:08

Grin not dead, GoingRogue, merely sleeping. Have you tried needling for it? The internet recommends that, as well. www.walkthiswaypodiatry.co.uk/ready-needle-verruca/

Duct tape worked on my daughter on two different ones. She was fastidious in ensuring the duct tape was in place at all times and on both occasions the verruca came away within 3 weeks. I've read of dr's scoffing at this remedy but it worked and a hell of a lot cheaper than the professional treatments.
