If you tried a banana skin on your verruca, did it work?

As title. If you tried banana skin, did it actually work?

I've given up on Bazuka gel doing anything, so I've started with the banana today. (Buying tea tree oil tomorrow!) How hopeful should I be about the Banana Skin Method?

No. Me & DD tried everything. Nothing worked until our feet got proper cut (bloody gashes) for other reasons. At that point, I think our immune systems finally noticed some tidying up needed.

I'm not completely free or I have corns (not sure which).... I file the 1 or 2 I have left down occasionally, pick bits out, they don't bother me.

snowplop · 05/01/2018 20:38

Desperate after trying all the over the counter methods a few years ago I duct-taped banana skin to Dds foot. I didn't expect it to work but after three nights it fell out of her foot leaving a ginormous crater. I'm a believer!

Chaotica · 05/01/2018 20:45

It worked on DD and DS -- we used surgical tape and a small square of banana skin, changed once a day. I'm a believer too!

ItWentInMyEye · 05/01/2018 20:48

Both my sons had one and both times duct tape every night worked Star

outnumbered77 · 05/01/2018 20:52

Not tried banana but nail varnish has worked every time. Takes a while but just as I'm about to give up the verruca falls off.

Thehairthebod · 05/01/2018 20:56

When I had verrucas when I was younger I tried everything, bazuka for years, freezing them off with Wartner, banana skin, nothing worked until I just put plain old duct tape on and they were gone within a few weeks.

DS recently had some on his foot, one was an absolute monster, I just hadn't noticed it! Anyway we went straight in with duct tape every night and I swear they were gone within a month. It's brilliant!

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 05/01/2018 21:03

I'm using black DIY tape from Wilkinsons. Do you think it's the right kind of tape?

So put a bit of duct tape over verucca and then change it daily? Leave it on all the time? Thanks!

GoingRogue · 05/01/2018 21:38

I've heard/read on here it's gotta be the proper silver duct tape, as there's something in the silver that helps?! I use the real stuff and have been for 18 months to no avail.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 05/01/2018 22:17

Bollocks. I hope not. It was difficult enough finding black tape of any kind on the high street.

I certainly didn't see any silver. Will Wilkos silver DIY tape be any good, do you think? If I can find it in store...

Verrucas can often persist for several years, but they are self-limiting and if your immune system is intact, they will resolve without treatment within about 2 years.

Duct tape etc might appear to work, but I suspect it's coincidence. I think studies have shown about 50% reduce somewhat with duct tape.

Onemorecornetto · 05/01/2018 22:23

Cider vinegar & duct tape worked for my DS:
After bath or shower soak cotton wool ball with the ACV and hold it on for a minute.
Pat dry then cover with duct tape.
Bit of filing the next day then repeat.
DS’s was gone in a week after months of Bazuka not working. I was so amazed!!

Thehairthebod · 05/01/2018 22:25

Hmmm, not sure about silver/black. We used silver on DS as that's just what we had in the house but it's just a colour isn't it, rather than having actual silver in it? I don't know?

Struggling to remember when I did it on myself but I am pretty sure I used black?

lljkk · 06/01/2018 08:36

Black tape is coated with cloth, electrical tape is coated with rubber/vinyl (says here). From what I'm reading, it's supposed to be the oxygen cut off that might cause duct tape to sometimes work to remove veruccas. vinyl might be less breathable, I guess.

PiggyPlumPie · 06/01/2018 08:43

Needling got rid of mine after trying literally everything else!

clarrylove · 06/01/2018 08:52

What side of the banana skin should touch the verucca please?

HuskyMcClusky · 06/01/2018 09:21

clarry, the inside of the banana skin should be on the verucca/wart.

bimbobaggins · 06/01/2018 11:03

After months of bazuka etc it was my chiropodist who recommend the duct tape for my ds verucha and it worked

BattleaxeGalactica · 06/01/2018 11:08

Don't know about veruccas but a banana skin dressing drew a tiny but pesky glass splinter out of my finger overnight.

Groovester · 06/01/2018 11:14

Thuja tablets from Holland and Barrett. Don’t file at all (it spreads!) and treat locally with tea tree oil.

My son had a nasty one. This technique worked after about 2 weeks. Doesn’t look like anything is happening and then it all fell away leaving clean skin underneath.

I swear the pills contain witchcraft!

Fruitcocktail6 · 06/01/2018 11:16

Duct tape was the only thing that worked for me on a very persistent patch of verucas I had for years. It took about two months, reapplied every day after shower and kept it on pretty much all the time.

Theonlyoneiknow · 06/01/2018 20:42

Thuja got rid of my kids mollescum so kind of makes sense

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 29/01/2018 12:06

Update:

I gave up on the banana and then tried duct tape alone, followed by vinegar and verbal abuse.

Subsequently I switched to a combo-approach of Wartner's Verruca Removal pen (which uses TCA gel, not salicylic acid) and duct tape. You are only supposed to use the pen twice a day for four days, and then you take a break for four days. I ended up ignoring that instruction and applying Scholl Seal and Heal Verruca Remover twice a day during the breaks.

After two and a half cycles of Wartner (when the pen ran out) great layers of skin just peeled off both verrucas, allowing me to gouge at the things far more easily. I've kept picking at one in particular, while applying the Scholl stuff twice a day, and...

it's either gone, or it's shrunk down to about 2mm across, which is a huge improvement from the 5 pence piece size when I started this thread. I am continuing to apply Scholl Removal Gel to the area, just in case.

I think I will be buying another Wartner pen for the remaining one!

Randomly my DS’s long term verruca vanished within weeks of him starting chemotherapy Shock

Not recommending that as a verruca treatment though!
