Kanga - just to say if you take iron suplements there are a few that are plant derived (e.g. floradix) and they are much gentler on your system and don't bung up your bowels.

RTKangaMummy · 24/04/2007 14:00

I rang up this morning and spoke to the same receptionist yet again and she said my GP wasn't actually there yesterday - so that is why he didn't ring

So she was going to ask him again to ring me.

Anyway he has just rung

I AM 10.7 SO I AM AEMEMIC BUT NOT SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE SHE GOT 5 FROM

MY RETRICYLCYTE LEVEL IS 1.37 ALTHOUGH HE EXPLAINED WHAT THAT MEANT I DIDN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND

HE READ THROUGH MY NOTES

HE SAYS IT IS PROB MY HEAVY BLEEDING THAT HAS CAUSED IT

SO THANKS GUYS YOU HAVE ALL BEEN DEFFO BRILL

oh that's good kanga - well not good you are anemic but good that you are not about to be hospitalised!

I was about 10 once when pregnant - through concious eating I got them back up.

RTKangaMummy · 24/04/2007 18:58

For my tea tonight I have got:

Steak, spinach, new pots followed by kiwi fruit and pineapple

And orange juice and iron tablet

DH got me some spatone but am not sure atm if I will overdose on iron if I use it as wellas tablets.

Thanks for all your support on this thread

You are all deffo brill

that sounds all good and irony - is it a big change from before?

I hope things pick up for you really soon. I was talking to a friend last night who had found out she was anaemic (level 9) and she said it was so wonderful adn she had a new lease of life when she started taking more iron and she hadn't realised how tired it had been making her. Her appetite subsised a bit too - said she had been eating loads as her body was crying out for iron.

Keep eating your greens!

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 12:53

I didn't eat Spinach very often but did eat red meat - not liver though >

despite popeye spinach does not contain a lot of iron but does contain folic acid which is also good for anaemia (makes the haem in the haemoglobin)

confusedandignorant · 25/04/2007 13:01

don't be surprised about the funny coloured poo if you eat a lot of spinach or are on iron (green or black)

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:02

oke doke

I have got folic acid tablets as well perhaps I will start taking them as well as the iron

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:03

I will lob some spinach (from Popeye) at you if you say deffo brill one more time woman

when I was anemic I had tablets but had lots of prunes to keep constipation at bay

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:04

noooooooooooooooooooooooo can't stand prunes

will eat shredded wheat or porridge instead

OP posts:
oliveoil · 25/04/2007 13:05

or dried apricots

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:05

why don't you like me saying DB ???

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:06

OP posts:
oliveoil · 25/04/2007 13:07

I don't know, it is a bit annoying

ignore ignore

you need fibre if you are on iron tabs, prune juice? Hold your nose and knock it back

RTKangaMummy · 25/04/2007 13:10

I know, HOB NOB biscuits would be better or flapjack

PRUNES just remind me of junior school when we had to eat them >

My iron levels were languishing at 8 a couple of weeks ago. I suffer loads due to heavy periods but this time it really crept up and bit me on the bum. I'm permanently knackered at the moment. I'm popping ferrous sulphate tablets bought over the counter at the moment and can feel the difference already. Poo is a lovely bottle green colour.....TMI I know lol!
