To visit the walk in centre?

The top of my bumcrack has a small white/flesh coloured spot on it and although it looks insignificant, it is stinging like mad and I can barely sit. AIBU to go to the walk in centre? I can't take a minute more of this and what's worse is that I am on my period :(

Op you are not crazy you are highly anxious and there are treatments for it. Its positive that you know what triggered the anxiety too. Can you keep busy for the next 2 days until you see the gp on monday? Maybe get out the house as much as possible so you are not sat wallowing in fear. X

The images of the pilondia cyst look nothing like mine. It isn't full, red or tender and as I said, has been there for a week so wouldn't be able to sit here writing if it was that because by now it would have developed into something huge. Still doesn't stop me worrying but this is rational Sienna talking for once.

Thanks Martha. It was the diarrhoea thing I had which went on for ages and was highly distressing. That's when this health anxiety started. I never used to worry about my health before this bit now it is taking over my life.

LM, it sounds silly but I always try and focus on my breathing as well. 5 deep breaths in and out can really help at times as do aromatherapy baths xx

I am a GP. The location you are describing cannot be piles or anal cancer.
You do need the emergency appointment. But for anxiety, not for this symptom.
A pharmacist would be very unlikely to miss a pilonidal cyst. Certainly not one that's going to cause you any problem. They're usually pretty obvious.
You probably have several tiny cuts to the skin within the rash area. These will not be visible to the naked eye but will sting when the skin is stretched - like when you sit down. They might also sting with creams or even water in contact with them.

Not silly at all sienna. Maybe we can use rhe rest of this thread for techniques to deal with anxiety. I also love essential oils and yoga/pilates particularly focusing on the deep steady breathing. Also going for a brisk walk/jog then having a relaxing bath/shower.

Pilonidals can present in several ways. The cyst could be under the skin and is causing pressure and not yet infected.

Try a bath with Epsom salts, they were my saviour when I had 8 of those buggers. It was agony. I couldn't sit, lie down, anything at all because it was so painful.

Sounds like what I get sometimes and easily sorted with susocrem

If you are the lady I'm thinking of I remember your diarrhoea thread.
Posters there were very patient and you were repeatedly advised to get help for your anxiety.

I mean this in the nicest way as someone who had health anxiety but fgs get to the Doctor on Monday and deal with the anxiety side, what you are putting yourself through is not rational.

My mum isn't helping, said she is worried sick about this which has now panicked me even further :(

It started off as a bubble feeling and I remember how it started. I was in bed and felt a slight cut on my bum. I touched it a bit and think I must have made it swell up as I was then uncomfy all night with it. The bubble feeling went to be replaced with this stinging feeling. Terrified as to what it is. Hoping you are all right when you say a pharmacist couldn't miss a cyst or anal cancer.

It sounds like your mother also has issues with anxiety.

It seems like people have been saying for a long time for you to get help for your anxiety and it seems like you still haven’t.

Can you go next week? I’d access private therapy tbh

I can't recommend strongly enough that you get help for your health anxiety. I've had it badly myself - to the point I developed psychosomatic symptoms of s neurological disorder. It's probably the worst thing I've ever been through and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. People underestimate it but it's part of the OCD family of disorders and absolutely merits treatment. I went through 2 courses of CBT and I'd really recommend it.

When you come out the other side you'll look back and just feel immense relief and be so glad you tackled it Flowers

Problem is I do think I am seriously ill with something. Yes, my anxiety is a huge issue but I am pretty sure I will be diagnosed with something nasty soon.

I had something similar, within a few days it got infected, was a ingrown hair that got infected, was agony, ended up having it cut out out, I had 2 inch wide and 2 inch deep hole that I had to go to the walk in centre everyday for 6 weeks to have it packed out

sienna you feel like that because of the anxiety not because you have any physical ailment. Anything treatable is treatable anything untreatable is rare and would have symptoms long before now. You dont have anything wrong its your anxiety telling you that. Please confront it on monday as its not nice to think of you suffering on.

Bumdishcloths · 02/12/2017 23:17

"I'm sure I'll be diagnosed with something nasty soon"

I know you have anxiety but that takes the bloody piss. So, so many people have awful diagnoses and bear them with dignity. You've got a sore arse crack. In the nicest possible way, get a grip. You're belittling those who are genuinely suffering.

Madcatter · 02/12/2017 23:21

When I was struggling someone said to me, "yeah, but deep down you know there's nothing wrong with you."

No. That's precisely the point, I didn't. The very thing health anxiety does is convince you that you're ill. You don't experience it as some vague fear, you really do believe it. That's what makes it so hard.

One of the things they teach you in CBT is to recognise that fear as one of the symptoms.

How long ago was the diarrhoea problems? Are you sore from wiping? Does it hurt when you wipe?

I know you're anxious and it's awful but this is not anal cancer because it is nowhere near your anus!

Report
MarthaArthur · 02/12/2017 23:24

madcatter exactly. Anxiety is completely illogical it makes no sense to anyone but the sufferer. To someone without a sore knee and health anxiety its just a sore knee. To a HA sufferer its something terribly rare and serious.

Report
Sienna333 · 02/12/2017 23:31

Yes that's it Martha Arthur, I don't want to insult anyone but I genuinely believe I am very ill and that people will be shocked when I come on here again to say what it is I have.

The reason I am worried it is anal cancer is the 'bubble' feeling I experienced last week was felt in the actual anus but then moved back up and is now stinging.

Bumdishcloths I've had a significant disabling auto immune disease since my mid teens that needs full time management (probably one of the reasons I was prone to HA) so I know what it is to have a serious diagnosis.

I'd never judge anyone struggling with HA though. Like I said before it's a real mental health problem that's part of the OCD family and causes real distress. The OP can no more 'get a grip' than someone with depression or bipolar can.

OP, get to the doctor on Monday and ask for a referral for CBT.

Stinging at the top of my bumhole I mean and sore a bit further down from that because of the rash. Terrified I will start getting bloody poo. It feels sore enough down there that it will tear when I go for a BM.

I had the diarrhoea for 3 weeks but that was about a month ago now.

Sienna, did you see the post from the GP? She said you do not have the symptoms of anal cancer. You are right, you are seriously ill but it’s a mental illness not physical one. It is valid and worthy of treatment but you have to accept the help and want it.

In my head I truly believe I will be coming back on here very soon to tell you all I have cancer of some kind or an inflammatory disease. I could bet money on it. Hearing my mother's panic has intensified mine even further. No idea how I am going to get through next few days feeling so terrified.
