Hot water bottle always helps me more than pills.

ChelseaDagger · 18/04/2007 23:04

Hot bath, hot water bottle, more grolsch?

Sympathies anyway. I hate periods. that I still have them.

Beauregard · 18/04/2007 23:04

Second the hot water bottle.

SlightlyMadSecret · 18/04/2007 23:04

Deffo hot water bottle.

3littlefrogs · 18/04/2007 23:04

See GP. Maybe an antispasmodic would help.

Twinklemegan · 18/04/2007 23:05

I thought it had worked for me too SMS until this last month

ChelseaDagger · 18/04/2007 23:05

Childbirth cured my period pain for about 4 years, but the pain is back now and it's just as bad as it was before - but not bad enough to get pregnant again.

eemie · 18/04/2007 23:34

Fluoxetine

Fantastic

Worked for breast pain too

DimpledThighs · 18/04/2007 23:35

the back pain is the worst I have had it for four days now - thought I ust have slipped a disc!

DT

Is this a long standing problem?

I am a veteran of using a hot water bottle - helps for a bit but does not address the underlying cause.

In my experience at least many GPs are ignorant when it comes to such problems. I would suggest you see a gynae to see if there is indeed an underyling cause - endometriosis can cause severe period pains. It can also cause pain in the backside and down the legs.

Nbg · 19/04/2007 06:56

Feminax is good and works quickly but do not take it if you have to look after children on your own as it can make you very very drowsy.

addle · 19/04/2007 07:47

i found back pain in my periods decreased considerably when I started using a mooncup .... and another vote for the hot water bottle

Twinklemegan · 19/04/2007 22:50

Does anyone else get pain right down their thighs as well as their lower back and abdomen?

Debbsyandson · 19/04/2007 22:57

2nd hot water bottle also you can get ponstan forte from the dr they are really good. But for the time being and provided you dont take any other medication you can take ibuprofen and paracetamol combined.

hunkermunker · 19/04/2007 23:04

Co-dydramol my drug of choice, have also taken Voltarol and mefanemic acid (Ponstan).

Found Ponstan bloated me, the last thing you want when you have bad period pain (I had Grade 4 endometriosis and bad adhesions too - have had three surgeries for it).

Co-dydramol plus ibuprofen works pretty well, IMO. That's what I took at night. If I had to stay awake, I took just ordinary paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time. Although at its worst, nothing touched it

Good luck with it - and if it's bad go and see the doctor. You don't have to suffer with it.

Twinklemegan · 19/04/2007 23:06

Ha. I went to the doctor when I was having pains for half of every month. He said, and I quote, "oh so much has been written about pelvic pain in women but no one knows what to do about it - try paracetemol".

hunkermunker · 19/04/2007 23:10

I'd have kicked him in the nuts and said "So much is written about goolie pain in shit GPs, try being a binman, you twat".

princesscc · 19/04/2007 23:12

I' got one of those heat bags that you put in the microwave - don't make the pain go away, but it certainly releives it. Also put lavender and pacholi oil in my bath.

fireflyfairy2 · 19/04/2007 23:25

I have the same tonight DT So huge sympathies to you.

I had a bath with salts & a book.

The got out, out on comfy knickers, warm jammies & got a hot water bottle. It's laying on my sore tum as I type.

Feeling very sorry for myself

WanderingTrolley · 19/04/2007 23:27

For the love of God, women, is none of you going to suggest chocolate?

You are all hairy knuckled truckers. This is proof.

Twinklemegan · 19/04/2007 23:30

I can't face chocolate, or anything else, when it's really bad WT.

fireflyfairy2 · 19/04/2007 23:31

I'm always feckin dieting!! & I crave crisps instead of chocolate!

WanderingTrolley · 19/04/2007 23:34

Sorry TM - do you have one of those heat-up-in-the-microwave, bean filled, sausage-shaped things?

Better than hot water bottle for pain, as you can wrap them around (eg) neck, knee, etc. or along your thigh.

hunkermunker · 19/04/2007 23:35

Chocolate no good for period pain like I had it. No food at all helped for a bit. Anything moving through bowel that was strangulated with adhesions not a good plan. Endometriosis left me with raw patches inside that stuck and healed together and knotted everything together - my left ovary was covered with skin and invisible when the surgeon operated.
