Ovulation sickness - anyone get this?

bakeitup · 20/08/2017 12:56

Since having children (never happened before) I get really incredibly nauseous around ovulation (feels like morning sickness) and also often the day before my AF starts.

Anyone else get this? It's awful and actually puts me off having another DC, have consisted it but the monthly reminder of how bad morning sickness is just makes me shudder. Interestingly I had hardly any morning sickness with DC1 but quote a bit with DC2 (both girls!) and I between those pregnancies developed getting motion sickness (never before) and started getting these weird hormonal nausea episodes.

Interested to hear if anyone else gets it and if so if you've found a cure...

I’ve just discovered this thread as I’ve been having similar symptoms for the past few months. To start with I thought it was morning sickness (I would be devastated as I’ve already got 2 and not planning anymore!) but I’ve been tracking the nausea and sometimes vomiting and it always falls around ovulation. I have never had this before.

Chambo1980 · 11/03/2021 07:55

I could literally have written this it’s so nice to hear I’m not alone. My vision gets distorted almost like I’ve got water in my eyes too plus the dizziness light headed and irritated etc. I get really bad migraines every month around ovulation too

Hi there
Im so happy to have found this thread! The last 18 months ive had neasea every month around period time. Its also happening worse around ovulation time. Im throwing up, headaches, brain fog and super tired. Its gotten worse the last 2 months. I do have 1 child and this never happened after having him. When i lost our 2nd child it was a horrible sick pregnancy so i thought the hormones just needed to even out but it hasnt happened.. hoping someone out there has any information on what to do! Any help would be greatly appreciated as the doctor’s arent helping at all!
Thanks so much

Guys have anyone ever experience cramps on the right side of the pelvic 10 days after your period? It also make me feel nauseous

Redleader21 · 19/04/2021 21:50

I have two children (6and4), I’m now 42 and since having my last I noticed that I would get a feeling of trapped wind, exhaustion, washed out fatigue once a month. Looking back, I’ve had this for years but really thought it was trapped wind from food! Only now understanding my cycles do I realise it’s ovulation pain. I get it every month straight after the usual Pre ovulation signs, a dull pulling ache with twinges of acute stabs. Usually in just one side (often alternates each month and occasionally the other side the following day.. I’m convinced it’s a second ovulation those times). I get it every month, some months worse than others. It often comes with womb ache, terrible flatulence and much desire to sleep! I often then find I feel lightheaded, dizzy and nauseous afterwards, often right up to my period. After analysing this for years now I can safely say in my case it is linked to ovulation and hormones. The few days before ovulation I feel amazing, almost electric. Then it goes downhill quickly. It’s a pain but a part of life I’m getting used to.

Redleader21 · 19/04/2021 21:53

.. and to add, I don’t get much of any period pain to speak of.That’s a breeze in comparison!

Yasphi · 25/04/2021 02:14

I feel super nauseous around ovulation and anxiety picking It's high level.

Delatron · 25/04/2021 20:05

Yes I get no period pain. In fact the minute my period starts I perk right up. Lots of energy again.

Just want to sleep around ovulation and get quite bad pain every other month so I’m guessing one ovary has an issue. Maybe a cyst.

Lao90 · 25/04/2021 21:36

I get this..never used to and it didn’t appear after giving birth to my daughter, it actually appeared after a subsequent miscarriage. Very strange! I agree it’s rubbish as like you I also get it before AF ..the amount of times I’ve thought I must be pregnant. I am pregnant again now and morning sickness hasn’t been too bad so not to say it will be.

Boohoo85 · 28/04/2021 18:22

One word: histamine. When estrogen rises, so does histamine. Histamine also rises during pregnancy. Your body should clear it, but sometimes for various reasons it stays elevated. Histamine is the partial cause of motion sickness. Look into low histamine diet, methylation tips & high B6 foods & good luck to all.

Delatron · 28/04/2021 18:28

Thanks @Boohoo85 that’s really interesting. I do notice my symptoms are better if I’m eating super healthily. I’m guessing wine is not a good idea 😭

Boohoo85 · 28/04/2021 18:32

Lol- well, enjoying life is an important part of staying balanced as long as it's done mindfully! But if you really want to get it under control you gotta go full steam low histamine and choose high b-6 & methylating foods for a couple months and then kind stick with it and have some cheats here and there after! Most people should notice a difference if they stick to it.

Delatron · 28/04/2021 18:36

Thanks @Boohoo85 I’ll go and read up!

Boohoo85 · 28/04/2021 18:43

No prob. Happy to help! Getting hormones balanced can really contribute to overall health, well being & longevity. Most women I know are busier than ever before and our environments and foods are more artificial than ever before. It all makes it hard to care for ourselves. Good luck!

Delatron · 28/04/2021 18:45

Thank you! That’s my ultimate aim. I’ve also had breast cancer and it was very hormone driven so even more important that I can get them balanced.
Sigh, it’s so hard being a woman!

Jas9090 · 28/04/2021 19:01

@Boohoo85 that’s so interesting about the histamine as I found (by accident) when I was pregnant and took antihistamines for my hayfever it seemed to significantly improve my morning sickness! I wonder if there’s a link there

Boohoo85 · 28/04/2021 19:03

There is- you were right to notice!

Boohoo85 · 28/04/2021 19:04

Amen!

Tamara777 · 29/04/2021 10:35

I've noticed that I retain fluid during ovulation. My feet swell, sometimes I feel short of breath. Muscles feel sore. I feel nauseous, constipated. I feel horrible until my cycle starts then I'm okay. I know I have to be perimenopausal with other symptoms that I have as well.

DaniDee123 · 29/04/2021 21:40

It wasn't until five months off the pill that I experienced nausea around ovulation, but it is WILD. My jaw tingles and it feels like I'm going to throw up. It comes in waves over a few days, and the idea of taking a bag of garbage makes me feel so sick. I don't have a weak stomach, so I was eager to sort out potential solutions. I'm hoping a TUM, ginger tea, and peppermint essential oil (topical) might chill this out. Phew!

Marieinaus · 30/04/2021 23:41

Omg i could have written this post I’m so glad I’m not alone.. extreme nausea each month around ovulation and only since having my babies 😭 i thought i would share what has been helping me in case it could help anyone else! For the nausea I’ve been taking elevit morning sickness (im not pregnant but morning sickness is nausea caused by hormonal imbalance so i figured its the same! its just made of ginger and vitamin b6) and for cramps i take midol. Both easy to just get on the shelf at pharmacies! It doesn’t make everything go away but it certainly helps me get on with my days ! Hope it helps you ladies Xx

Nakedman1 · 21/05/2021 07:21

Thank goodness for this post. I have a 14 year old, and I never experienced anything like this — but after I finished breastfeeding my 16 month old in February, I am getting really sick every month. At first, it was just the days leading up to my period (feeling gassy and nauseated if I didn’t eat, also lightheaded and foggy — and just super out of it). Now, it comes on right around ovulation and hangs out until the beginning of my period. I feel like I barely have any good days each month. It is killing me. I started a super healthy, vegetable rich, no sugar or gluten diet this week, hoping to stop this, because I can’t spend 2 1/2 weeks a month feeling terrible, but I feel worse than usual. Ugh. I guess I am glad that I am not alone? Though, it totally feels like morning sickness, and a few
Months back, I was sure I was pregnant .. nope.

colouringindoors · 22/06/2021 17:17

I had a period where I felt like I was coming down with something every time I ovulated

omg yes this is me this week. Massive headache, bad nausea, bloating, fatigue. Feel really horrible and I'm sure this isn't the first time I've felt like this mid cycle.

Hope it goes soon.

crazytimes20 · 29/07/2021 18:17

Omg I am so glad I've found this. So today is my ovulation day and for the past 4-5 days I've felt dizzy, motion sickness, blurry eyed, hot flushes and very tried.
I have birth to my second in January of this year and this is first time I've felt like this during ovulation. Im not on the pill, as I had to come off it about 2 years ago. Ovulation always made me feel a little 'off', but not like this. The hot flushes are like a rush of sickness but instead it's hot rather then nausea if that makes sense. At first thought I was coming down with cold but my temp is fine. Just feel so off balance. Anxiety is getting better of me too.

Iyengar · 11/09/2021 17:48

I’m almost 45 and still getting regular periods, but I’ve noticed the past few months around ovulation I feel nauseous, sleep is very interrupted and I’ve back pain. I thought it was just me but my ‘PMT’ seems to be getting earlier each month! It’s actually been worse since I had my son ( he’s 10). I take comfort it’s not just me. Taking 2 ibuprofen capsules every 4 hours or so which helps a bit 😬
