Why can't I buy Ultra Tampons in Tesco??

After being caught out on holiday in the U.S.( good ol' peri-menopause) I went shopping for tampons. Why have I been saddled with Super Plus Tampax as a maximum offering since I was a teenager, only to find the Americans can buy 'Ultra' Tampax tampons (super plus-plus capacity), which do the job brilliantly? Research shows that Amazon sell them in UK, but at a ridiculous price and anyway I would prefer to have them handy in Tesco / Asda and such (never know when my last purchase might be - at 56 its getting a bit ridiculous ..). Does anyone know of a 'normal' chemist / supermarket where you can get these in the UK?

Boots sell an Ultra Lillets.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 18:11

Lots of supermarkets sell the ultra absorbent lilets. No applicator though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/08/2017 21:16

I buy super plus extra in tesco, boots, sainsburys. Never not been able to find them in a proper supermarket although smaller ones don't stock them.

eyebrowsonfleek · 16/08/2017 21:19

I use Ultra Lillets and have bought it from
Boots, Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco and Morrisons.
Never seen Ultra Tampax in the UK.

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2017 21:20

Tesco Extra sell Lillets Ultra, and Superdrug do too (they also sell their own brand Ultra).

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 16/08/2017 21:20

Ultra?! You mean I've suffered with SPE for 20+ years and there's something more absorbent? I could have had sleep!

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2017 21:23

Vivienne I've only become aware of them in the last year.

GrockleBocs · 16/08/2017 21:26

Maybe it was just our Tesco (a big one) that didn't. Haven't looked in the last few years as I haven't needed them but when I did it was Boots only.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 16/08/2017 21:26

I'll have to have a look madison. I still remember my delight when SPE were released!

LapdanceShoeshine · 16/08/2017 21:44

I'm feeling very retrospectively disadvantaged with this information!

Before my periods stopped (2001) I was getting through a lillets super plus every 2 hours for at least 2 days

BigGreenOlives · 16/08/2017 21:45

Ocado

feelingdizzy · 16/08/2017 21:58

What, this could be life changing. Why have I never heard off these ! Off to google.

MistyKnightsTwistout · 16/08/2017 22:01

No idea on the UK version but American sanpro is amazing. I wish I'd known as I would've packed light to stock up!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 16/08/2017 22:03

I've never seen ultra tampons anywhere. Mind you I'm now taking tranxemic acid so no longer need them.

thenightsky · 16/08/2017 22:08

I only discovered the lilets Ultra Plus last month in superdrug.

Theresnonamesleft · 16/08/2017 22:08

I find lilets better the super plus has more absorbency than tampax.

MsMartini · 16/08/2017 22:10

I get ultra lillets everywhere - is that what you mean? They are great.

bunningsbunny · 16/08/2017 22:28

Killers ultra are widely available in all the supermarkets and Boots etc where I live.

The only downside is that they only sell them in boxes of about 10 - you can't get a big box of them in the same way that you can get for other sizes. Doesn't make any sense as if you use them then there is a good chance that you are going to want to have a big box of them to use at as you would with the other sizes rather than having to buy the relatively more expensive small boxes.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 16/08/2017 22:32

Superdrug stock ultra lilets, they are very good.

I still had to wear a pad at night and change once through the night though as I was so heavy.

Hysterectomy sorted all my bother out thankfully.

BigGreenOlives · 17/08/2017 07:02

I like the idea of them being 'Killers ultra' even if it was autocorrect.

eyebrowsonfleek · 17/08/2017 11:12

2 boxes for £3.50 is the best offer I've seen. Have people seen them for less?

Why can't I buy Ultra Tampons in Tesco??
thenightsky · 17/08/2017 11:54

Wish they did bigger boxes, like the other sizes. I've just got through a whole box in just over 24 hours. Sad

PollyPerky · 17/08/2017 14:03

Manchester If you have flooding and heavy periods at 56 it might be worth seeing your GP and getting checked out.
56 is old for menopause (not unheard of but getting on) and there is the tiny risk that your bleeding is something else (endometrial cancer) which can be confused with menopause.
You know your body best but if you happen to have had a gap of 11-12 months with no period then have one, the regime is an urgent referral within 2 weeks.

eyebrowsonfleek · 17/08/2017 14:56

I get through a box a day on day 2 and day 3 too 😡

What annoys me is how often they're sold out at my local Morrisons. If they sell out , try ordering more in 😡

PollyPerky · 17/08/2017 20:32

you are using 20 tampons a day?
You should see your GP, that is not normal bleeding.
