Oh, you poor thing. I always get probs with my sinus whenever I've had a cold. My gp recommended inhaling over a bowl of hot water with a tea bag in it...said it's a natural decongestent.

talcyone · 25/03/2007 18:50

Thanks dances
will try anything
Can always add milk and sugar if it doesn't work i spose

Hee hee!
It really is a horrible condition to have though. I get blinding headaches with it and it's blardy miserable.

Oh and don't even get me started on the no taste/smell issue...

indignatio · 25/03/2007 19:16

Have you tried reflextherapy/ology ?

Dh would certainly never have believed it would work, but did for him

talcyone · 25/03/2007 19:56

Desperate, idignatia.

huge sympathies

I have the same at the moment and it is driving me maaaaaaaaad. Can't taste a thing (which will come in handy as dh is doing supper).

I find head massage (as in me massaging the front of my head, around my nose) the only thing that gives me temporary relief - either that or if it is super duper horrendously painful, taking Syndol before bed (can't take them during the day as they knock me out).

the steroid nose spray should kick in at some point and start working - mine normally does a week or so in.

motherinferior · 25/03/2007 20:06

I have to say that in a lifetime of sinus problems I have mostly found decongestant tablets to be the only option. Acupuncture worked for a while. I now have a steroid spray which seems to work. It's awful, isn't it.

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 20:14

it's very annoying - I'm considering having another op. Will wait till I'm better then go and ask for an ENT referral I think (had one before but screwed up and got the wrong day for the appointment and I was purged from the system!).

what gets me the most is how dizzy it makes me feel - that really full head feeling.

friendlyedjit · 25/03/2007 20:15

what about nasal washes- they appear revolting but there are people who swear by it!

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 20:18

(soory talcyone for stealing your thread slightly ) - my last ENT swore by salt sprays and washes! He gave me 6 weeks of a powerful steroid spray (to bring down the inflammation) and then told me I'd be fine with salt water spray and I was - was clear of sinusitis for well over a year with that regime, the longest time ever!!

but my goodness, those washes are FOUL!

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 20:19

by the way friendlyedjit, meant to thank you for a link on another thread to online prescription glasses. Very good site.

anniebear · 25/03/2007 20:32

I am always bunged up, dont breathe through my nose

It annoys me so much as People always say to me "Oh you have a cold"

But I have never gone to the docs as I am scared he will say I have to have an op

Saw on the tele once were some one had some metal thing shoved up their nose euggghhh

anyway, Im sure you didnt really want to know that lol lol

talcyone · 25/03/2007 21:12

Thanks all
Yes it is miserable
and often people don't seem to realise how painful it is
my head is full of cotton wool

Been on decongetsants on and off since october....do make me really drowsy also

Hated the though of salt wash at first

If it works i'll \give it a go (have you seeen the DIY ones online?)
Just had a very refreshing tea bag steam bath

Isn't Hopi(sp?)candle therapy suppposed to be good for clearing ears, sinuses etc?
You have my sympathy ,i suffer with my sinuses occasionally ,they are blocking up at the moment but i think that the pollen trigger's it.

talcyone · 25/03/2007 21:19

Intrigued!

multitasker · 25/03/2007 21:22

I'm not a sufferer but I do remember my yoga teacher telling how she was plagued with sinus trouble until she did what I suppose was a nasal wash - you can get the little pots - like mini teapots in most pottery shops and flush out with a warm salt water solution - I think there is a major gungefest afterwards so be prepared!!

swedishmum · 25/03/2007 21:22

I don't suffer to anything like the same extent but massage over the nose and rubbing iceblocks over the sinus area really helped when I was pregnant and couldn't take anything.

Plibble · 25/03/2007 21:25

My sister (a doctor) tried acupuncture, and while she didn't go for many sessions as found sitting still for 30 minutes with needles in her face a bit disconcerting, she did say it seemed to help. Worth a try if it is that chronic, IMO.

talcyone · 25/03/2007 21:40

a major gungefest is what i need multitasker

Thanks all for responses

Interested in all the replies! My dad suffers badly - completely "bunged up" all the time - needs shares in Kleenex! Had 2 ops - no success - still no smell or taste.
Interested to hear what works for some - will pass on all the suggestions. keep them coming!

justaphase · 26/03/2007 12:21

nasal irrigation with the funny little pots - netti pots I believe they are called

not vile at all despite the way it looks

worked a treat for me after a year of sinusitis, antibiotics, spreys and everything

it is an absolute miracle, it is

MegaLegs · 26/03/2007 12:24

talcyone - have had similar but with no pain, just a permanent bunged up nose? I have had a one side blocked and very, shall we say productive, for 5 weeks now but no pain and no temp. Never had anything like this before - horrible. Worse at night, keep waking up gasping for breath and snoring loudly

Ali5 · 26/03/2007 12:29

Neti is brilliant. Takes some getting used to but it does really shift everything. Before ds, I got into the habit of doing it 3 times a week and not only does it keep you clear, I also slept better. Try and find a good yoga teacher to show you what to do.

talcyone · 26/03/2007 15:54

Have been to local herbal type place....
they suggested their homeo man assess me!
Next stop local massage spa place.

Have ordered neti kit
and ear candles?

Dh is gonna think this is hilarious

Tea steam bath was nice

Can def breath easier but the pressure in my head is awful

Next stop....head massage
Thanks all
