Gallstones/gallbladder problems

babybell89 · 07/07/2017 13:01

Hello so I need to change my diet to reduce my night time attacks! I am seeing the doctor also so no worries on the seek medical help front.

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and if Diet has helped. What are you eating? What are your triggers?

Curry and rice was the one main meal I could eat with no bother from the blasted gallbladder. I ended up having a stone removed at 24wks pregnant down my throat and full removal of gallbladder 2 weeks post caesarean

RB68 · 11/07/2017 22:45

one of the reasons this often happens in pregnancy is that a hormone is released to relax ligaments to allow the birth process to happen. This works on all ligaments including those around the opening to the gallbladder, so stones escape more. I had SPD at the same time so was waddling around in severe pain - hands and knees in bathroom panting hoping to god I didn't set off labour so early!!

AHobbyaweek · 11/07/2017 23:14

No results yet for blood test as don't get to actually speak to anyone about it until next week. At a work event and all the food is so rich I am really struggling to eat anything without immense pain.

@babybell89 no, it's done under light sedation, via the throat.

babybell89 · 12/07/2017 11:31

The thought of something down my throats makes me feel ill. I would rather be knocked out and have the full thing removed! Or even better control it with diet.

I've just started watching a good documentary on netflix "what the health" and I'm seriously thinking going 80% vegan! I'll always have some dairy and meat but totally cutting it down to special occasions.

Maybe that will heal me? X

The doctor only suggested paracetamol. Tramadol sounds good. What is the best pain killer I can get over the counter?

Bit emotional just had a mini attack during tea. But haven't eaten any fat since Friday last week! Took paracetamol buscopan and a lavender heat pack on now.
Feel more emotional than anything past two days I've been pretty snazzy!

Stress? Bread?

Possible UTI maybe that's making it worse?

Many people with gallbladder issues follow a low carb high fat diet. The lastest advice from NICE is not to specifically follow a low fat diet, unless you can prove that fat causes attacks. I successfully follow a Lchf diet for 2 years it's gallstones with no problems.

chaplin1409 · 12/07/2017 19:04

babybell89 I hope you are ok now. I am finding that it does not seem to matter what I eat if its going to happen it will happen. I get quite upset when I have an attack especially if I am home with the kids on my own as I dont like them seeing me in pain.

Groovee · 12/07/2017 19:09

In the days before having emergency surgery to get my gall bladder out, I couldn't eat or drink anything without it triggering an attack. It really was awful. The best moment was getting tramadol and IV fluids for a few days prior to the surgery.

Thanks it didn't last long I think it's the panic and fear that it's going to last or be super strong!

Also the upset you have eaten really well with no avail!

That's really interesting about your diet. Worth considering!

If anyone who is waiting to have gallbladder removed has irritable bowel syndrome speak to doctor about possible effects post surgery. No one warned me and have suffered IBS theoughtout my life. Was so relieved to get gallbladder removed after near constant attacks for months, regardless of diet But since operation post healing I have seen massive deterioration in IBS. Can not get through a single meal without cramps and desperate rush to toilet, can't eat while out in public as have to be close to bathroom etc. It is horrendous for me currently so just make sure you get all the information if you already have IBS

Peppaismysaviour · 12/07/2017 20:59

Also if anyone knows anything about what the heck I can do to help myself please let me know :(

AHobbyaweek · 12/07/2017 23:02

@Peppaismysaviour how long ago did you have your gall bladder out?

trinity0097 · 13/07/2017 08:07

Have you tried giving up carbs, whilst it doesn't work for everyone lots of people find it helps. I only suffered constipation after my surgery, had 2 weeks of normal food then back to Lchf and not had any problems.

babybell89 · 13/07/2017 12:10

@Peppaismysaviour try a plant only diet for a week and see if it helps! Might make it worse initially though so do your research! Xx

It's been nearly two years since my operation. Plant only sounds terrifyingly difficult!

Agoddessonamountaintop · 13/07/2017 14:35

babybell I think it's worth looking into dietary control if you can. I think when I was considering the op (which I did have) five years ago there wasn't as much info around, and I kept coming across hideous 'purging' diets, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
I didn't have frequent attacks, although I'd had the stones for years and the frequency was increasing - plus my attacks lasted four hours a time.
I was slim before the op, but immediately afterwards was left with a midriff tyre which initially I thought was due to the air pumped in during the op - but it never went down, and I've gained about 20lbs which I'm struggling to lose.
Googling post-cholecystectomy weight gain was a scary eye-opener and I wish someone had warned me about it as I'd have looked harder for alternatives, and at least tried different diets.
Digestion of fat wasn't an issue for me, btw - well sometimes it was and sometimes it wasn't. I had attacks after seemingly random things. I did try lchf a few times though - but it was always a trigger!
I was told by the u/s operator that losing weight in a short space of time is what causes the stones to develop.

sparklefarts · 13/07/2017 17:04

Does anyone find exercise triggers theirs?

Also, anyone else get diarrhoea?

babybell89 · 13/07/2017 19:42

Thanks I will focus on diet for now!

I get some diarrhea but I'm on a new diet so could be that!?

Does anyone get aching feelings in the same place on the other side sometimes when it's flared up?

Not sure if spleen or cramps or just me symptom spotting!

No pains for far today hurray! X

Also who smokes?

I don't I vape but it has high nicotine in it! I found wearing nicotine patches set it off!
