can sympathise, i thought i was dying from it last week. peppermint tea was the only thing that sorted it out for me.

good luck, hope it eases soon.

talcyone · 21/03/2007 19:06

Has it eased tortoise?

tortoise · 21/03/2007 19:17

It comes and goes. i thought it had gone so tried to eat a little tea. That soon brought pain back after one mouthful.
Have run a bath though so hoping that works. I can't believe how painful it is. Like i was in labour! Lol

Are you sure this is just wind? Sorry - don't want to worry you but it sounds as if it could be gall bladder type pain. If it doesn't settle get it checked out - maybe GP tomorrow? Gall bladder pain is aggravated by eating.

3littlefrogs · 21/03/2007 19:21

In fact - people do describe it as being like labour...

tortoise · 21/03/2007 19:22

Can't be 100% sure but have burped a few times which eases it.

Had the same a few weeks ago but not as severe.

3littlefrogs · 21/03/2007 19:23

Burping goes with the gall bladder pain as well. Hope I'm wrong.

tortoise · 21/03/2007 19:30

Oh. I will keep an eye on it then. Thanks.
Any other signs of that? (weight gain?)

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 21/03/2007 19:43

Well - the classic description of a person most likely to get gall bladder trouble always used to be:
Female, fair, fat forty and fertile......But - my friend who had bad gallstones was 40, fertile slim and brunette, so stereotypes are not always correct. However - one should not diagnose over the phone or online, and I could be wrong. I do think you should see your GP if it doesn't settle down. If food makes it worse, just stick to clear fluids tonight.

3littlefrogs · 21/03/2007 19:46

What have you had to eat today?

Female,Fat and fertile i guess! Only 28 though! And dark!

Seems ok at the moment but haven't eaten again yet.

I have eaten to much to list today. Am struggling with eating at the moment. i pig too much at times. Expect it is just wind really. But will keep an eye on it and this has made me think about my diet too.

Hi tortoise I get reeeeeeeeally bad pain when I eat too much naughty stuff, like chocolate and cake etc. The other day I ate a whole 200g bar of choc and felt hideously pained. Saying that, it was gone the next morning. Think others are right that maybe you should get yourself checked out if you are still feeling crap today. Hope you feel better soon.

jackieglyn · 22/03/2007 15:28

Hi Tortoise,

Just to say the pain you are describing does sound like you have gall stones, i had this last year. and the pain gets worse and worse on every attack and more frequent.

The pain starts in your shoulders and back and within minuites its also around your front chest area. the pain is so bad i feels like you are having a heart attack - and dying. does this sound familiar?

There is no way of easy the pain unless you burp, whatever you do dont drink milk it only makes it worse!

Good luck i hope you havnt got it, its terrible. By the way i was 29 when i had it,i have dark brown hair and not really over weight. Pregnancy triggered mine off.

jackieglyn · 22/03/2007 15:30

And if your burping / windy all the time that is a sign of gallstones to, sorry.

there is a way of knowing if you have them, on the right side of your belly button - about three inches away to the side, if you press really firmly and it feels tender then thats gallstones. (that is where your gall bladder is).

X

Agree that it sounds like gallstones - I have attacks every now and then. The pain for me is under the ribs and below the boobs, on the right hand side - similar to where your liver is. I get a referred pain in the right shoulder blade at the back and sometimes in the right collar bone area.

If I get an attack, it is always after eating something quite fatty - curry, chocolate, etc - especially also if I have eaten too much in general and often if I have over-indulged over a few days.

The pains are worse late in the evening and then overnight but often gone by the morning. The first time I had it, dh was set to take me to A&E or call an ambulance and I was worried it was a heart attack (wrong side though) or appendicitis. I was in absolute agony and nothing eased it at all (burping, pain killers) but it gradually eased off.
