Does chickenpox always=lots of blisters?

DD1 has a temperature and feels unwell,off her food(unusual for her)headache and about 8 faint spots on her body and approx 4 substancial 'headed'ones.

Some children get lots of spots & some don't.

When did you first notice the spots?

chicken pox comes in waves, time will tell - number of spots can vary tons, but if it is pox she will have more soon

No. Dd2 had 7. I'm told that this means she could catch it again! It was definite though (was seen by gp to have it confirmed)

I noticed the one by her mouth when i collected her from school but didn't think anything of it,Noticed the others at bathtime this evening.
She is also complaining that her back aches.

No doubt she has chicken pox, may well have many more spots in the morning!

DS was diagnosed as having CP, but only had 2 spots! I expect him to catch it again when it does the rounds.

Ds1 had less than 20 over his whole body. Ds2, 2 weeks later, was covered from his scalp to the soles of his feet.

Has she been in contact with anyone who's got it (stupid question - I think it's everywhere at the moment!)?

Chicken pox are transmittable before the spots appear so she may well have been with someone whom later had chicken pox!

Didn't take either of mine to GP - the blisters and the crusting over is quite distinctive! The crusts turn almost black - nice!

get the calamine cream ( not lotion) and put loads on the spots. dont rub it in, smear it on, like cream on nappy rash. even in her hair. dress her in old PJs. give her calpol, lots of fliuds and lots of sympathy.

no baths or hair washing or scratching. you are trying to keep the scabs on the spots for as long as possibel so they dont scar. especially on her face.

DD2 had a wierd blistered spot when took her for 6 week check up. (spent 2 hrs at playschool on dd1's first day 2 weeks before)
The doc didn't recognise it as it was the only one and she'd been fine.
The next day my friend called and said not to take dd1 to playschool as someone had the pox. I undressed dd2 and sure enough, the poor little thing was covered. She looked like a wee ghosty all covered in calamine lotion. Takes about 2 weeks for most spots to scab and start to heal. She had one on her bum that took a bit longer as it got huge from always being in wet and pooey nappies. She pooed a LOT when very little.

Agree with Kristina, but if itching is driving them mad, try an oatmeal bath. Very soothing. Normal oats in a sock, chuck it in the bath and yse it like a sponge. Obv being really careful when washing and drying, not to take the tops off the spots.
I kind of splotted the lotion on with a cotton ball, really thick. Seemed to help a lot. Not Boots brand it's runny.

Yep. Apparently it soothes the itching. I was sceptical too, but it seemed to wqork and she went to sleep much better. Actually not the baby but dd1 who is 3 yrs.

No probs. When they're poorly and itchy, you'll try anything. Even breakfast in the tub.
I was lucky, neither of them scratched much. My friend had to tape socks on her 3 1/2 yr olds hands to stop him scratching in the night.

Well the gp confirmed it.
She has a few more spots now and looks quite poorly with temperature and cough,although not too scratchy at the moment.She is also still complaining about pain in her back on the one side ,i did tell the gp but she didn't seem too concerned.
Hope it isn't kidney pain or something?
I worry about this as she has never really drunk much and we always have to nag her.

Hope your ds is feeling less itchy very soon!

I had Chicken Pox when I was 15, still remember it to this day! (itch, itch, itch!)
