Hi everyone, sorry I've been MIA, Christmas has been busy and we've suffered a bereavement. All the more reason to look forward and look after ourselves.
I think I'm going to stick to my previous goals and attempt to consolidate my previous (mixed) success.
(1) 8.5k steps
(2) 7 fruit and veg (erring on the side of more veg)
(3) ten minutes yoga
I could do with adding some mindfulness in but I want to get my other goals on a solid footing first. I will add in:
(4) Do something nice for myself every day
What are your low key, positive commitments for January (starting tomorrow, natch).

Thanks for your wordsAlice and you're right I seldom slack on my steps.HaloGrin.

That sounds scary I hope all is now OK.

I've got a daylight length calendar open on my laptop. I look every few days and we're now getting 2 more minutes of daylight extra per day. Yay roll on Spring!

toldmywraath · 11/01/2017 17:02

Steps are 14k today and flights of stairs on 26. But it's walk to and from work Wednesday today. Got home and finished my book, snuggling with dog as it's turning colder here.

toldmywraath · 11/01/2017 17:05

Flowers for you Alice I didn't mean to skip over your funeral news, sorry.

AliceInHinterland · 12/01/2017 09:18

He was just a passer by, but with a baby in a sling I'm extra cautious so I took an extra 3k steps round trip. Veg and food was good yesterday though I didn't get round to yoga.
The funeral was not the big one, and it was quite nice in the end, but thank you for the flowers!
Well done on your steps as usual Smile

Hi everyone, 50:50 today, good on the veg and yoga but not on the steps or treats. It has been torrential here today, with some snow by evening, and I have managed 5.5k inside! Treats were okay until dinner, we had guests and I have a total inability to control my food intake on social occasions, I can prepare myself but as soon as there are people there my self control shuts down. I'm off to start a thread about it actually!

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 12/01/2017 23:08

Snow here this evening so I was too worried about slipping to do my evening walk. Managed 7k steps during the day though.

I'm similar with my eatingAlice no off switchSad. Wish I could control myself. Funnily enough I'm not like it with vegetables (or alcohol for that matter.)

I've done well on fruit and vegetables today. But I had a massive craving for pickled beetroot and ate 3 whole ones this evening!

AliceInHinterland · 14/01/2017 07:33

Yesterday was good on the food front, not so much on the exercise but I'm still decorating in the evening (and will be for a while!) so unless I get it done in the day it's a write off. It was too windy and cold for a walk with the children, even wrapped up in the sling the baby was furious.

OP posts:
AliceInHinterland · 14/01/2017 19:19

Today was the reverse - barely scraped 3 fruit and veg, had probably three big treats, but exercise was okay, did a bit of yoga and 8.5k steps. But you know what? It's better than doing none of these things on any day, which I regularly did before. I'm definitely feeling better for it. How are y'all?

toldmywraath · 14/01/2017 23:06

Feeling chilly outsideAlice I'm doing well on the fruit and veg, steps just over 9k yesterday and today. I forgot to wear my fitbit for a couple of hours yesterday. I walked the dog and she needed her paws and tummy washing when we got back, she's a low loader. I took it off and forgot to wear it. Oh well.

Good on you decorating and you're right about doing at least some healthy stuff.

MoreProseccoNow · 15/01/2017 09:52

Morning all! I've not really got back into things properly. Like Alice I manage one or two of the things, never all of them!

After getting back from the weekend away on Monday, I was back on track Tuesday & feeling pleased with myself. Wednesday wasn't great; the Forth Bridge was closed so I had a 4-hour commute time- did well for steps but forgot to take my fruit to work in the rush. Thursday was grade during the day, but I'd forgotten it was "book" club, so had a few drinks & nibbles but did manage 13K steps.

Yesterday I didn't walk much & got to 7.5K steps. I can tell today isn't going to be great, steps-wise. Been up 1/2 the night with DD - she is still sleeping it off. Don't feel like eating my usual fruit in this cold weather!

AliceInHinterland · 18/01/2017 10:33

I've been away so long you've dropped off my 'I'm on' threads! I've not had anything healthy to report and I've noticed the difference in my energy and mood so aiming for a clean sweep today - I'll be pleased with 3/4 though. I hope you're all well and your daughter is better Prosecco.

Hi Alice - good to hear from you! I've been doing well steps-wise, getting 8K in most days, sometimes more. And I've mostly been sticking to the calorie snack allowance - it is really helping me think about what I snack on & if it's "worth" spending my calories on.

I'm getting 4-5 fruit & veg in. So feeling much more positive, but not sure if I'm losing weight, which I really need to do. I'm only 3lb off my heaviest ever weight (after DD) & had lost 1st & kept it off, but it has crept on over the last 6 months. It must go! I'm almost at the point of buying a size bigger. Yuk.

Stellar67 · 19/01/2017 08:01

Morning, back from awol and getting back to good habits. Have had a couple of weeks of being all over the place but working hours are fixed now, for now.
I have already had three fruits. Off to do an hour of yoga. Not sure on the steps as I've hurt my knee on the stairs but will see.
I've been the same with energy and mood Alice. Prosecco, am with you on the weight. I have not enough work clothes and I don't want to go and buy more in a bigger size. Blush

AliceInHinterland · 19/01/2017 08:40

Well I got to my 3/4 yesterday, veg, steps and yoga. Otherwise food was a bit all over the place but I have found that once I get my veg on track for a few days it gets a bit easier. I've made DP take some junk food we had knocking about to work, and threw leftover pudding in the bin so there's a bit less temptation today.

AliceInHinterland · 21/01/2017 15:35

Thursday was veg, yoga and steps.
Friday was veg and steps but way, way over on treats!
Today I've done a short run, but only one veg so far - I've got some catching up to do.
How's everyone else faring? Enjoying the brighter days?

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 21/01/2017 23:48

HelloAlice I've also been AWOL . Probably lost a bit of weight unintentionally this week with a most unwelcome stomach bugSad

Back to form now and managed 10k steps today. Avoiding fruit and vegetables just as a precaution. Chicken soup and scrambled eggs are nicely bland. Sorry for tmiBlush

I yelped today wow about the lighter evenings. I really really look forward to February when you know that Spring is almost upon us. I seem to catch every illness going in December and January!

AliceInHinterland · 23/01/2017 19:03

Oh no Told I hope you're feeling better now! Today I have hit veggies and yoga, okay on treats so far but pretty much ready to crack now, and 1,000 off my steps.

OP posts:
AliceInHinterland · 24/01/2017 22:39

Total write off today! Tomorrow I will get steps and but I think that's about it. I could try to push for vegetable too - they make a big difference for me.
How are you all doing?

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 25/01/2017 12:21

HelloAlice I typed out a long post yesterday but my phone lost it!

Thanks I am much better now. I hit 7 veg and my steps on Monday. 9 vegetables and steps yesterdayShock. But, a big but (? buttGrin ) I'm mainlining my birthday chocolate, January birthday and I shall start my treat embargo on 1st February.

Wishing you all a Happy Burn's day. Lang may yer lums reek. Smile

AliceInHinterland · 25/01/2017 19:21

Happy birthday!! (despite the fact I'm wondering if you just insulted me in Scottish).
I'd done yoga, steps and veg quite early today, feeling smug then had two puddings with an already indulgent dinner!
Feel glad that it was at least a little bit balanced out though.

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 25/01/2017 23:04

Nay lassie. It's a traditional Scottish saying and translates" long may your chimney smoke"meaning long life.

Also it's Burns night not day. Not sure why I typed day!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Steps good today, veg a disaster; one large tomato and some green beans.

toldmywraath · 25/01/2017 23:06

Well done on your steps vegetables and yoga. Alice. I can quote several Burns lines by heart, I won't make your ears sore though.Grin

AliceInHinterland · 30/01/2017 10:45

Oh dear I seem to have really lost my mojo! I've been doing okay on steps but for some reason finding it hard to get into a rhythm at the moment, everything seems rather hectic. I'm napping with the baby at the moment but I at least plan to get up and cut up some vegetables afterwards to try to get myself back on track!
Let me know how you're all doing.

OP posts:
MoreProseccoNow · 30/01/2017 12:42

I'm with you on that one, Alice! I lost the plot last week, made the silly mistake of writing myself & realising I'd not lost any weight, so it sent me on a downward spiral. It was DP's birthday on Tuesday so we had Chinese. Then I rebelled against myself on Wednesday & decided not to walk at lunchtime. Only 3.5K steps.

So once I'd finished wallowing, I've started back afresh. Managing the steps ok, apart from Saturday as it rained all day. Mostly getting 5/day. And deciding not to weigh myself.

I thought I would be so motivated in January, but I've really struggled, pah

AliceInHinterland · 30/01/2017 19:58

Yeah January has been a huge slog for me. Today was not bad, fruit & veg, a bit of a run, yoga still a possibility. I'm finding the treat thing so hard, I will try to focus on that tomorrow.
I think we need to take the long view, even if we ended the year a few pounds down that would be better than the weight slowly creeping on.
Let's keep posting and keep accountable.
