Forgotten prescription meds away from home

I'm guessing nothing can be done? Bollocks.

I don't have my mometasome spray, movicol and salbutamol, managed to forget a bag. They're all prescription only, aren't they. Is there any way to get them. Bloody typical that it's also over new year and doctors will be shut etc.

I'm near Gatwick, live in South Wales. The drive back isn't really possible.

Is the pharmacy you use part of a chain? If so it might be worth getting in touch with the original pharmacist and asking whether anything can be done.

Don't despair. Do you have a paper copy of your prescription anywhere? If yes take to pharmacy. If no, call your doctors and get them to email or fax to pharmacy. The pharmacist can then give you either a repeat or private prescription.

Do you have the back slip to a prescription by any chance?

Otherwise phone hour gp and see if they can fax a scprit to a local chemist

The spray, is it just for rhinitis? So not dangerous to miss?
You can get movicol without prescription. And a pharmacist may well be able to provide you with a salbutamol inhaler, so try a pharmacy before you panic

Pharmacist will not be able to give you meds without a prescription whether they are part of a chai or not. No pharmacist can just give out medication

It is for rhinitis, though I also have sinusitis at the moment due to a horrible cold so in quite a bit of pain. I do have my pain meds though, so that is something.

Call your surgery or give 111 a ring. This kind of thing happens all the time. They may be able to prescribe over the phone for you to pick up an emergency supply. There will be pharmacies open today and tomorrow without any real problems, and there will be a pharmacy open somewhere nearish-by on New Year's Day and the bank holiday too.

I don't think Movicol is prescription only.

I left my ADs behind on a recent visit to my mums. The local pharmacist was really helpful, dispensed me a week's supply for a £6 charge. If I was on free prescriptions then I would also have had the option of signing on as a temporary patient at the local GPs. They took my name and address but nothing more. Can't tell you how relieved I was!

This happened to a family member when staying with us on Christmas Day - complicated, personalised prescription meds that had to be taken multiple times a day. My recollection is that they called what was then NHS Direct, who arranged for a prescription to be sent electronically to the only out of hours pharmacist open in town on 25th December, we drove over to pick it up about 45 minutes later.

I think there was some checking back to the original doctor / prescription / something on some centralised system (because the meds were very individual), but the whole process was amazingly smooth.

Reality In fact a pharmacist can legally make an emergency supply of a prescription only medication as long as they are satisfied that the medication is currently prescribed by a GP and it would be impractical for the patient to get in their normal way. They do have to charge the cost of the medication though which patients often do not want to pay

Visit a pharmacy local to where you are OP and they will advise if they can sell you anything the same or equivalent and will know if procedure for that area is through them, walk-in centre or local GP as a temporary resident

Sorry ignore me. I literally posted what I overheard the bloody pharmacist telling a man in boots yesterday when I was collecting DH's script. I had a google after (should have done it first) and realise I was wrong.

I'll see what a pharmacist says and work from there. Need to go to a supermarket and get toiletries and clothes too Hmm

You can buy movicol over the counter, the others ask for an emergency supply. There will be a charge but not a huge one.

If you happen to have even an empty box that would be useful. Call 111, if it's something you get regularly it should be on your Emergency Care Summary (ECS).

our local Lloyds has a sign in the window saying they can issue asthma inhalers without a prescription in certain circs.

Will my repeat prescription being in Wales rather than England make a difference with having an ECS?

I will check my bag for a box, there might be one. Or maybe even a repeat prescription if I'm ridiculously lucky...?!

I foolishly ran out of a controlled prescription med by mistake and my chemist gave me a strip (think it was 20 - tramadol) and "deducted" it from my next prescription. They were my regular chemist though, I'm not sure if somewhere new would have done this. I had to sign something.

I hope you get it sorted.

I have stacks of morphine with me Grin I could just dose myself up with that for a few days. That will not end well without movicol though!!!

The pharmacist can give you meds without a prescription as an emergency supply. This is at their discretion and only for medication that they deem you can't go without (so you should certainly be able to get your inhaler at least) and there is a charge. You need proof that you normally have that medication ideally, but if you don't have anything on you then the pharmacy can probably call your GP or usual pharmacy. Pop along and they'll do their best to help you :)
