I had a fit last night

Ihadafit · 23/11/2016 11:24

Just need some hand-holding and impressions.

My DP was woken up last night by me "having a fit" - me eyes were open and vacant, I was completely unresponsive and shaking violently.

I hope this isn't epilepsy etc. Thankfully I already have a GP appointment booked for this afternoon.

Really, really, scared...

Just to say thinking about you x

MaitlandGirl · 25/11/2016 20:55

DP has a seizure disorder (EEG cleared her for epilepsy) and its scary when her meds aren't right. Like hours, DPS seizures came out of nowhere - they started with physical seizures and then developed into absences, which she says are more frighteningly.

You must be terrified but you're in the right place now. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much (that's sounds awfully trite and I'm sorry) as stress will make the seizures worse.

Will keep everything crossed that you can some answers soon.

P1nkP0ppy · 25/11/2016 20:58

I am absolutely appalled at the apparent lack of urgency in getting you seen and investigated in the first place op!
I can understand you're terrified of what's going on but at least you're now in the right place to be thoroughly investigated. My DSis said she felt like she'd been hit by a truck after having two major fits. Luckily her DH called 999, she was admitted and investigated immediately.

Fingers crossed for you 💐

crashdoll · 25/11/2016 21:05

I cannot believe you've been left like this. That is appalling "care". You need to kick up an almighty fuss when things are better for you.

Wish you well. Flowers

StressheadMcGee · 25/11/2016 21:12

I also can't believe how you've been treated, I really hope that you get more thorough care in the future. I had two seizures on Tuesday morning, for the first time, as had an ambulance by my side by the time I came round. I was seen v quickly in the local A&E, had a CT scan within half an hour of arriving and am waiting for a First Seizure clinic appointment. I'm with you on the shitting bricks front though! Hope you're getting more attention now and some answers are quickly forthcoming.

PacificDogwod · 25/11/2016 21:18

Yes, the described management does seem odd.

harrypoooter · 25/11/2016 21:22

If it's any consolation this happened with my FIL when he was about 40. Started having fits for about a year. No root cause ever found, no seizures after a year. Or since (he's 60. Only down side was he wasn't allowed to drive for A few years. He's fine now.

Rachie1986 · 25/11/2016 21:25

No advice, but thinking of you and hope you get some answers soon x

Ihadafit · 25/11/2016 21:30

My dad, my daughter are both astounded at the quality of care I've received. When I'm sorted (just had CT Scan) I shall be writing a strongly worded letter. Your responses have helped convince me that it's really not acceptable the care I've received.

Thanks again for all the responses, being alone in hospital is never fun, and whilst my spirits aren't high you're helping to keep me sane.

Likely to be tomorrow before I find out the results of the CT Scan.

Maitlandgirl - sorry about your partner. Could you expand on describing an "absence" ?

OP posts:
crazyoldc4tlady · 25/11/2016 21:51

absence seizures are a form of epilepsy where you blank out/just stare into space rather than having fits.

Hope you get some answers soon, OP.

lougle · 25/11/2016 22:02

If they are witnessed seizures and they are lasting a long time but you are recovering quickly, perhaps the health teams have observed them and aren't too worried.

Ihadafit · 25/11/2016 22:07

Stresshead Mcgee - oh no, I'm so sorry. I hope you get positive news soon.

I'm not recovering quickly from the seizures, 30 mins or so, and feels like being hit by a truck. The triage nurse who witnessed a seizure in the A&E department was most concerned.

OP posts:
Ihadafit · 25/11/2016 22:13

Lougle - I've had one seizure lasting 15 mins, one lasting about 5, the rest have been under 5 mins.

Jetcatisback · 25/11/2016 22:20

My DD was diagnosed with epilepsy three years ago, after seizures lasting 'just' two minutes she would be out for hours so lord alone knows how you must be feeling after so many prolonged ones in such a short space of time.

Whatever the reason, I wish you well.

eatyourveg · 25/11/2016 22:39

Should add so that it doesn't scare you if it should be the case with you but it is not unusual to wet yourself during a seizure - the medical staff will know this so there is absolutely no need to be embarrassed.

As for the recovery - don't be worried if its more than 30 mins - it used to take me a good few hours to feel back to normal - rest and sleep is the best thing if you can manage it. Hope you have a quieter night.

GenghisCalm · 25/11/2016 22:58

Oh OP, I hope they get you sorted quickly.

OhMrDarcy · 26/11/2016 08:05

I'm not surprised at the speed of investigation, sadly. I went through this with my father a few years ago - his first seizure was at the beginning of Sept and there was series of scans over the following weeks and a diagnosis only at the end of November. Once we were under the care of the neurological team thought the care was exemplary, so I think it might be the time when you're no one team's responsibility that is the trouble. Also he was treated in a middling to poor local hospital, then transferred to the area's best one, which was light years ahead in terms of communication, responsibility and speed of action.

I do hope that things work out ok (and quickly!) for you.

SpaceDinosaur · 26/11/2016 08:21

So so glad you're being seen now

Ihadafit · 26/11/2016 08:27

Had a bad night. No more seizures but had more bloods taken at 2am due to the abdo pain I'm suffering. Doc who ordered them thinks it could be my gallbladder.

Hopefully find out results of both bloods and CT soon. Not sure if EEG will be today or Monday.

thisagain · 26/11/2016 08:35

It sounds like your treatment has been appalling. I really hope you get this sorted soon. It sounds so scary.

Frouby · 26/11/2016 08:36

A handhold from here OP.

Your care doesn't surprise me. My niece had many seizures from being 2 years old. Severe life threatening seizures. And my dsis had to kick off with PALS and the hospital trust to get an investigation into it all. They ket saying they were febrile seizures and she would grow out of them. Her care has been shocking and as a result of the poor care she ended up on life support twice. She is now under a different hospital and consultants team and the difference is astounding. She has had more tests and investigations in 3 months than in 3 years and her epilepsy is currently well.managed.

StressheadMcGee · 26/11/2016 09:07

I'm so sorry you had a bad night OP, hopefully it'll help get you some more timely investigations. If it helps, my two seizures were apparently v short according to DH, yet I don't really remember anything from Tues and I still feel like I've been hit by a truck. Sending handholds from here too.

CoperCabana · 26/11/2016 09:16

Oh my goodness, what a terrible time you have had. Hope you get some answers soon.

MarciaBlaine · 26/11/2016 09:34

Hope you get some answers soon. It must be terrifying for you.
