Apparently, ds's class only had 22 on Friday because of it (normally 30). Poor ds was hit with it on Sunday night - horribly high temperature, nasty chesty cough, shivering, aches and pains - really nasty. Poor boy is still not better (he looks v pale) which is very unlike him.

Of course, yours truly has a version (though I'm ok) which meant last night I was sweating so much, I thought I'd spilt my water all over me!

Luckily, the asthmatic ones have avoided it so far though dd has told everyone we have bird flu .

So who else is stuck with it?

Me - but no child today.

DD was off school yesterday but has gone back today. I was off sick yesterday and have stayed off today. I awoke about 6am today and realised my fever had broken, without realising I had one yesterday and Sunday iyswim although was popping Lemsip and ibuprofen so that prob helped.

LOL at your bird flu.

wurlywurly · 06/02/2007 08:53

yes both my ds's have got it, looks like we are in for a fun couple of days.

foxinsocks · 06/02/2007 08:56

I actually wish dd had got it now so I could get both of them sick together - otherwise, she'll just get it later in the week and I'll be stuck inside for days arrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

yes, I've been doing the lemsip and nurofen thing and I imagine that's helped though I've lost my voice.

Hope you feel better Sue and I hope you don't get it wurly!

foxinsocks · 06/02/2007 09:07

did your little one just suddenly recover Sue?

I'm sorta hoping that will happen with ds. He was still very sweaty (and high temp) throughout last night but seems to have woken up looking exhausted but not with a raging temp. I hope he's broken the back of it.

jalopy · 06/02/2007 13:45

Sorry to hear about your little one, foxy. Hope he is getting better.
My son had this last year. Nasty flu bug. Had temperature for several days, unrelenting dry cough, verging on delirious. Symptoms continued for a week and he finally improved. Looked pretty tired and pale for several days after that.
Very umpleasant.

Gosh, bet you're sinuses are going mad. Poor you.

TooTicky · 06/02/2007 13:49

I've had it - lasted 2 weeks!! All 4 children have only had the odd symptom here and there.

serenity · 06/02/2007 13:54

I've got DS1 home as he had a temperature of 103 this morning. Apart from that though he's OK, just has the symptoms of a heavy cold so he's being dosed up with paracetamol and sudafed syrup (tyxilyx now no longer works on him) he's currently playing Kingdom Hearts 2 on the PS2 whilst DD (who has the cold but not the temperature) is sleeping on the sofa. First time in months that she's slept in the afternoon. I'm off to make banana cake, at the invalids request.......

quietmouse · 06/02/2007 13:57

I have had one or other or both of mine off school with it for the last couple of weeks.

It's horrible and there's just no shifting it!

expatinscotland · 06/02/2007 14:00

DD1 is home. It will be a week on Wednesday.

Of course, hers went into a throat and chest infection.

Poor dear!

That cough!

She was crying last night, 'I'm tired and I want to sleep' but that wretched cough was getting in teh way and Robutussin did NOTHING.

Hopefully now the ABs are kicking in - her throat made it painful for her to swallow.

ItsMeMellowma · 06/02/2007 14:03

DS2 started with something in his chest on Saturday night..its sounds really really sore when he coughs at night so I have been up several times each night since then.

Got some mediced for tonight so hopefully we might get some sleep.

quietmouse · 06/02/2007 14:04

oh yes, mine are coughing all night too.

They have horrible chesty coughs, we have also had here ear infections and conjuncitivitis on top. Lovely!

PinkTulips · 06/02/2007 14:08

dd.... she picked it up at playschool and has been dying all weekend. raging fever, hacking cough, sore throat and generally feeling like crap by the way she's been behaving.

thought she was a bit better today so took her to M&T group at the soft play centre, she was fine there but had went downhill on the way home and is passed out on the couch now.

ds seems to be getting it and my asthmatic dp is either getting it or looking for sympathy by the throat clearing and coughing he's doing.

i'm soooo not good at this part of being a mom..... i just have no patience with sick people

BettySpaghetti · 06/02/2007 14:08

DS (2.7) has a chest infection -he was really poorly on Sunday (one of those times when you're not quite sure whether to call out of hours GP or not). Anyway we took him to the GP yesterday and he has antibiotics but his temp was still 39.1 this morning.

I was ill last week with a tummy bug and then a cold.

My only escape from the house has been to my Gran's funeral this morning .

Hoping things can only get better but I expect DD will be ill for half-term!

Hope all your little ones are better soon

foxinsocks · 06/02/2007 15:01

oh betty, how awful.

hope everyone recovers soon!

Thanks for guiding me here Foxinsocks. I have it. I woke up ill with it on Monday morning having felt fine on Sunday night. I finally got dh home at 3pm on Monday and went to bed where I have stayed ever since. I must be feeling slightly better as I am downstairs checking my emails now, but I am about to go back up as I am shivery, wobbly and aching fit to scream. Dh has taken today and yesterday off work, but I am sure he will say he has to go in tomorrow and I don't know what I will do with the children if he does.

The children have been kept completely away from me, so I am hoping they won't get it, but, what shall I do if they do? It is so scary not having any support network.

DumbledoresGirl · 07/02/2007 09:32

Oh just read some other posts. My dh and ds2 are asthmatic but had the flu jab. I hope they at least are immune.

foxinsocks · 07/02/2007 09:33

oh DG - wish there was something I could do.

I am feeling slightly better today (though have horrid chesty cough).

Are you taking nurofen/lemsip/paracetamol? I shudder to think how much worse I would have felt without taking those.

I don't think there's much else you can do other than sleep it off tbh.

OP posts:
BettySpaghetti · 07/02/2007 09:37

Hello again everyone. Hope you're all feeling better soon -DG, you sound like you've had it really badly.

DS doesn't seem to be improving - or rather he does one minute and then temp shoots up and he obviously feels rotten again. Hes been on the antibiotics for 48hrs so I was hoping for some improvement by now. Wondering about phoning NHS Direct but they'll probably just cover their backs and say go back to GP I suppose?

BettySpaghetti · 07/02/2007 09:38

X'p posts -glad you're feeling a bit better foxinsocks

sauce · 07/02/2007 09:39

I had it 2 weeks ago, dh last week (actually missed 2 days of work! unheard of.) and now both dd (6) who is asthmatic and ds have it. It's a real baddie, isn't it?

foxinsocks · 07/02/2007 09:43

thanks betty, I'm sure they will say take him to the GP! If it's any help, ds had a high temp for 3/4 days running (and mine hung around for around 2-3 days). Also, if it's a viral infection, it may be that the antibiotics aren't doing any good (but would still take them as they've been prescribed) - sometimes they can take a bit longer to kick in I suppose. It's awful when they are ill at that age because they aren't old enough to be sensible about resting!

Your poor dd sauce. Neither dh or dd were offered the flu jab (despite being asthmatic) so I'm really touching all the wood I can in hope that they don't come down with it.

OP posts:
sauce · 07/02/2007 09:46

hi foxinsocks. my dd did have the flu jab as did dh... I guess this bug is resistant, damn & blast it!

take him to the GP if you are worried mmj. Seriously. It won't do him any harm to be checked over if you are worried. I can see how this bug could easily mutate into some lingering infection, I really can.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 07/02/2007 09:50

actually sauce, that makes me feel slightly better (was a tad worried I should have made a fuss and insisted dd was jabbed). Hope she's on the mend soon and it doesn't hit her chest too hard.
