& Amoxy is worse than useless

Trimethorpim makes my tongue swell & the other only causes itching - I can put up with itching

Can you buy dipsticks I wonder, it's a pain going to the GP to be told it's clear despite symptoms

I'm pretty sure you can buy them online but I wouldn't tbh as you could never be sure they were accurate. Amoxi is a broad spectrum ab I think so gets rolled out for everything!

I can't get a sample to the GP every time I think I have an infection; so I think the strips would be useful

If you are having recurring urine infections it really is best that you send the sample to the lab and not use the dipsticks. They are great but only in uncomplicated uti. If there are symptoms positive dip you can be pretty sure of diagnosis. 3/5 day course usually ok.

But if you are getting lots it maybe that is not the right antibiotic sensivity they are giving you or for long enough. Especially as there is some limits in what you can take.

A pain I know but sample to gp for the lab. Right antibiotics that the sample has shown sensitive to. When you have finished the course 2 days later send another sample to make sure it has gone and there isn't an underlying infection.

Oh and they are stupidly expensive

I know but I have both symptomless infections & symptoms with no infection which is such a pain as I can't know I have the first & they don't treat the second

So at least with a dipstick I'd know whether it was worth going to the GP

I have a TVT & I'm in mid-investigation to see if it's shifted (they think no, I think yes)

I just had a cystoscopy to check it hasn't implanted in my bladder (it hasn't)

I'm wondering if it's to do with either my IBS or possibly adhesions from the op I had 16 yrs ago - my TVT is 13 yrs old

Ive been on cefalexin and azithromycin for years for a chronic uti.

My infection is picked up on dipstick but comes back no Infiction from the lab. But according to my consultant 80% of UTIs are missed by standard hospital tests.

Treat on symptoms only. When I started treatment I used to have to go 3 or 4 times a year and do a sample which they would look at immediatly under a microscope to count epithelial cells and leucocytes but he's stopped doing this now. Just goes on symptoms and adjusts abx dose accordingly.

I'm under the leading professor in the country for this. People travel from all round the country and even abroad to see him.

I hope they get me sorted as I am in a bit of a mess really

If you get no luck then it may be worth seeing if you could be referred to the LUTS clinic at Whittington hospital. Professor malone-Lee.

Lots of uti are missed. I hear lots of women who suffer after a tvt so don't like them fob you off. Have you tried a longterm low dose antibiotic?

Some consultants will dimiss it but as said before lots will try. It might be worth looking at a referal there or a specialist centre near to home.

you have to buy it online as not in UK chemists if you're in the Uk. AZO brand is great, think it's the maxiumum strength urinary pain one with the Phenazopyridine in it.

My problem only started this ear really so I guess I have a long way to go

Watch the Nitrofurantoin as it causes liver issues, that could be why it's making you itch.
