Would you take your dc to Tesco if they had chickenpox?

ds3 came down with chickenpox on Saturday, bless him. Hopefully ds4 will catch it very soon as I am due to start work in 4 weeks.

I need ideas on what I can do with the two of them for the next week. I think we will go stir crazy if we don't go out! Today is first day off playgroup and I am getting frustrated already!

Of course, I need to get some groceries in, it will be ok to nip in and straight out wouldn't it, if I kept him in the trolley and didn't let him run around?

dh is not available until late on Thursday this week and I am severely limited to what help I can draw on from family members due to their own health problems - dad has leukaemia so he just CANNOT come anywhere near atm.

they are contagious from 2 days b4 the spots until they crust over, and it does endanger lives.

it can cause miscarriage.

(that should have been on the end)

Nobody is saying that chickenpox doesn't endanger lives. I know someone who died from it, and it could have killed my little friend.
However her mum was told that she was not in danger from being with my son in Tescos the day before he had the spots cameout which is when he was very contagious. It was the fact he was in an enclosed space with her. This was the advice from the top children's hospital in the country!!!!!!

You need to be sneezed over or coughed over or breath the same air in very close proximity, which is why little children usually catch it at school.

Sorry Christywisty, but my son is also treated at Great Ormond Street and we are told he has to have an injection of an anti-viral (which he has had three times now) if he comes into contact with anyone with cp. we have been told "contact" includes being in an assembly hall ....... He has now had cp and was in hospital for 6 days, having antivirals intravenously 4 times a day ..

Anyway, I'd agree with another who said that the people who were most annoyed with the original poster were probably annoyed because she was aware of the danger, as her own father has leukaemia ....

Can we just not accept that yes, cp can be a dangerous illness for some; but also understand that some people's circumstances dictate that their child cannot always be kept at home with cp, but they will do what they can not to spread it around !! A truce everyone !
