Fifty sit-ups a day club

Well, ab-crunches, really - I doubt I could do even one proper sit-up at the moment .

I'm starting with
10 forward
10 oblique to one side
10 oblique to the other side
10 forward
10 backward (ie draped forward over a ball and lifting my upper body up. Not technically an abs exercise, but still core body.)

Any joiners?

Why is it called a muffin......or shouldn't I ask?

belgo · 26/01/2007 13:20

Every time I see this thread, I mean to join. But after my failed attempt to join the five sit ups a day thread, I really don't think I'd ever manage 50.

belgo · 26/01/2007 13:21

agree with bottle blond - I walk a lot - and it really helps with my overall feeling of fitness, and my legs are quite toned

Longlegs1972 · 26/01/2007 13:30

Muffin top - the bit that overspills when you put your jeans on and doesn't go away. You then look like a muffin shape IYSWIM

fizzbuzz · 26/01/2007 15:21

Ahhhh I thought it was referring to something ..erm....ahem....a bit lower down IYSWIM!.

Longlegs1972 · 26/01/2007 15:44

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Although.... that too is in serious need of a trim up too!

yellowpoo · 26/01/2007 15:57

Giving it a go. Two reps of ten on each.

fizzbuzz · 26/01/2007 16:01

Long legs pmsl

Rumpel · 27/01/2007 18:41

Only managed 50 today 'cos had a busy day at complementary health show. The only place I can do them is in my bedroom and LO is asleep in her cot so it is a bit awkward sometimes. No walking last 2 days either as I have been very busy. Still managed to lose 1/2 pound better than nothing at all. So I treated myself to some vegetable cake CARROT tee hee It must be good for you.

Longlegs1972 · 28/01/2007 19:33

Right have bought a yoga mat - better than lying on the wooden floors, bargain, from Asda £1.75. Gonna start with my reps of core strengthening excercises as from, tomorrow night. Have no energy after this weekend. I can just about raise a glass of wine to my lips.
Also purchased some in shower immac to get the 'lady forest' under some sort of control!

Longlegs1972 · 28/01/2007 19:33

In fact once i have sorted downstairs i'll prob have lost a couple of pounds

giggly · 28/01/2007 23:05

Still managing 50 sit ups daily, although I think it might help to cut down on all the cr*p I'm eating if I want to see any change. Any tips on how to tape mouth shut without any pain?

speedymama · 29/01/2007 09:13

I have been concentrating on breathing correctly when I'm doing my crunches and it really is making a big difference to the quality of my workout. I can feel my tummy muscles contracting 5 minutes after I have stopped. I never appreciated before how important it was to breathe correctly.

SSShakeTheChi · 29/01/2007 09:15

I dropped out of the club after one day, to my great disgrace. Need to get my act together! You're all doing so well. Off to do mine now...

sauce · 29/01/2007 11:18

As I won't be in Teddington anytime soon, Blissfit, could you describe any exercise(s) that would decrease the flab on my lower abdomen (aka muffin-top -- the roll of fat that hangs down over your "bikini line"), please? Or direct me to a website? Thx.

Blissfit · 29/01/2007 22:14

Hi, I'm afraid you'll only get rid of flabby bits by way of cardio work, otherwise ab exercises will tone the muscles but the flab will remain on top.

Push yourself on the cardio, e.g. if you walk already try some jogging intervals, if you jog already introduce some faster intervals etc. Aim to workout at a level where you are working reasonably hard, but can have a conversation. Also try to do some kind of activity for at least 30 mins 5 times a week, 3 of which are at a higher intensity, the others being at least brisk walking.

Hope this helps.

sauce · 30/01/2007 09:11

Yes, thanks Bliss. I have an eliptical trainer which I use every 2 days for 40 minutes. It hasn't made much difference to the muffin overhang yet but I do need to lose another 5kgs so some improvement should show when that's been done!

Rumpel · 01/02/2007 14:54

How are you all getting on? I haven't done mine for 3 days as have been very busy and have had mild food poisoning thing for last 2 days 5 lbs down though and body fat is reducing slowly too.

speedymama · 02/02/2007 14:25

It's my time of month so taking a break. In the past, when I've tried exercising when I am on, I feel light headed and drained. At least I'll be raring to go next week.

Rumpel · 02/02/2007 20:03

Managed loads today - could really feel it in my upper abdomen, had a walk too. Anyone hula hooping?

Rumpel · 06/02/2007 20:43

WHERE ARE YOU ALL?

bottleblonde · 07/02/2007 09:26

Am doing 60 a day now, can't believe I've kept it up. Have been walking lots and cut down on cheese and choc biccies. Have lost nearly a stone since Xmas

Rumpel · 07/02/2007 09:39

Well Done Bottle - I've lost 1/2 stone just got 2.5 to go now!! Been walking lots too and managing 100+ sit ups most days. Doing lots of arm reps with 1kg weights as well.
Prettycandles - who started the club is playing badminton 3 x a week now so has absconded from this club for the moment!

giggly · 10/02/2007 23:22

Still managing almost every day 60 press ups and 60 crunches, cant always post as that would my time to exercise. Have no idea of weight as I dont have scales and it would be way to scary to do in public, clothes feeling looser though so I suppose thats what counts.
