Fifty sit-ups a day club

Well, ab-crunches, really - I doubt I could do even one proper sit-up at the moment .

I'm starting with
10 forward
10 oblique to one side
10 oblique to the other side
10 forward
10 backward (ie draped forward over a ball and lifting my upper body up. Not technically an abs exercise, but still core body.)

Any joiners?

You need cardiovascular training to help burn the fat before you can see those lusciously tight tummy muscles.

fizzbuzz · 15/01/2007 15:12

Still sticking at it, although can see no difference as yet......

Am much lighter than pre-pg, but still can't fasten clothes.

Hope you are all doing them, think of a nice toned tummy for the summer!

costababe · 15/01/2007 21:32

fizzbuzz · 16/01/2007 19:48

God neither could I...I can feel the agony now. Can manage about 20 then have to stop and recover. But then I do some more

costababe · 17/01/2007 12:50

I dont think it matters if they are not all done at the same time, every bit will help, managed to do another 70 last night, over time!!

Rumpel · 17/01/2007 13:04

Never managed any Sat, Sun or Mon as was away visiting my brand new tiny neice. By time drove up, saw family, checked into hotel, fed LO, bath etc etc never had any time, likewise coming home and Monday had v hectic day returning Xmas stuff. Did 100 yesterday though and some other stuff. Bought 2x1kg weights - Sunday Times article suggested light weights with many reps for pear shapes like me. Weather is so crap as well so have washed trainers in preperation of jogging on spot in house until wind dies down and can take LO out in her pram again.
Am trying to remeber bum clenching troughout day also!

fizzbuzz · 17/01/2007 14:58

I've got some tummy exercises with weights. You sit down to do them, but they still pull on the old tummy muscles.

Rumpel · 17/01/2007 16:37

Please explain Fizz?

fizzbuzz · 17/01/2007 17:59

I got them off baby centre website. They are as follows.

Seated Row: Sit on edge of a chair, with knees bent, feet flat on floor and weights held at either side.
Put shoulder blades together, and lift arms (with weights in hands!) until elbows are level with shoulders. When you do it properly it really works your stomach muscles!

Don't know name of this one: Sit as above. Bend over until hands touch the floor, and chest touches your knees. Keep back straight.
Hold weights either side of your ankles, and lift to knee level. This isn't as difficult as the one above, but it still works muscles.

Hope this is clear, but they are on the website.

Here's to that washboard stomach then

SSShakeTheChi · 18/01/2007 09:51

Didn't do mine yesterday

kittylette · 18/01/2007 09:54

Rumpel · 18/01/2007 10:44

Kitty - have you seen that Gillian McKieth is looking for people for a wedding special this year? She wants some brides/grooms to be for a You are what you eat' if you are getting married this Spring/Summer?

fizzbuzz · 18/01/2007 20:24

Have just done them, but need advice.

Was doing oblique crunches as well to trim waist after birth of dd 6 months ago.

Have just felt waist at side and feels very hard, but front of stomach still like deflated balloon ( well not even that deflated tbh, more like a well filled balloon! )

Should I dump oblique ones?

MuckyAnthea · 19/01/2007 10:31

Can I join!!!
I will start tomorrow
Thanks!!

Rumpel · 19/01/2007 15:51

Fuzz - wouldn't stop obliques if I were you. Probably taking longer to tone up stomach muscles as they had more stretching to do, also maybe your skin is looser there?
Did 100 yesterday, and obliques, weights, shoulder reps, bum toners and stretches. Took LO for a 30 min walk too. Still only lost 3lbs in a fortnight though! And yes I am being good! Not letting it get me down though as it will come off eventually. Have yet to do todays though.

fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 16:58

Will keep trying then...thanks for support.
3lb in a fortnight is pretty good going.

PrettyCandles · 19/01/2007 17:26

Been a bit slack, but managed to do my 50 on 3 out of the last 5 days, plus yesterday did a set of 'pat the doggy' exercises instead of abs - ie leg and arm raises of various sorts done on all fours. They're more fun to do because you can kneel over the baby and gurgle with him while exercising.

I was looking in the mirror after my shower this morning (not something I care to do too often!) and I think my waist is already a bit trimmer. Still have the empty handbag stomach, practically an apron, but the fact that I'm looking a bit more pear-shaped rather than donut-shaped is encouraging.

That wedding programme sounds like a fun thing to do!

PrettyCandles · 19/01/2007 17:27

I mean I don't care to look in the mirror at myself naked too often, not that I don't care to shower too often!

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 17:29

prettycandles, that's what I look like, obviously the waist is the first to benefit, because I still have sack of spuds stomach

fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 21:20

How old is the baby pretty candles?

Tum feels harder (although that could well be food), but still no smaller. How long does anyone reckon it takes to have an effect?

PrettyCandles · 20/01/2007 21:01

LO is 3m. I doubt my tummy is firmer - couldn't really tell, anyway, because there's so much sagging over it - but I'm hoping that the reappearance of a bit of waist is true and not an illusion. Or maybe a delusion brought upon by my great desire to see results!
