just wondered if anyone has this nasty cold virus that's going around at the moment?

My cold started a week ago and this is the second week - I feel tired, congested and lightheaded - have never had a cold that has taken so long to go!

I'm feeling like death. Banging headache, swinging temperatures and aching all over. It started on the weekend and haven't been to work at all this week. I'm surviving on tea and beige food because everything makes me feel nauseous.

I really hope this goes away-this is meant to be my busiest time at work (self employed so no sick pay and only get paid for the hours I actually do) and I hate letting people down. Get well soon to everyone.

I've dragged myself into work today...only to think this is probably a Very Bad Idea indeed (just unpacked 5 boxes and had to have a sit down!) Sad

I made a massive vat of 'Jewish Penicillin' aka chicken noodle soup out of desperation on Sunday. Had one bowl. Threw it up. Weight loss is the only good that can come out of this.

Soup here too - I did vomit for a few days at the beginning crusoe, now in week three my stomach is fine although I am sure that the beechams stuff is giving me indigestion. Am trying to take them only when absolutely necessary - three or four pills a day when my head is at the exploding stage.

I actually slept from 11:30 until 1:30 today, just couldn't keep my eyes open. Fortunately I don't have much work on (other than unpacking my house).

I can vouch for it being horrid, I've been struggling for 6 weeks now. Went to the docs about 3 weeks ago to be told it's viral give it a week or so and you'll be back to normal. Well that never happened Sadi got much worse on Sunday!! Went docs on Tuesday morning, pretty much had to crawl in there as I was so bloody dizzy and just at zero energy level. To find out it had turned into atypical pneumonia. With a temperature of over 40!! So not fun, let's hope my antibiotics kick in soon and I feel like my normal self again.

Yup still here. Was feeling a bit better but got the fizzy nose and eye thing back. Sore throat and really tight chest. Absolutely no energy. Normally as fit as a flea, cycling, running, walking but attempted a short walk yesterday and ended up coming home to sleep for 2 hours on sofa and then crashed out in bed early. Can't get a doc appointment until next Friday

Wow Jessie, that is truly grim. Poor you. I hope you feel better quickly.

Voluptua - I am the same. I am forcing myself to cycle to school with DD in the mornings and to walk the poor dog in the afternoon - four miles a day, total. I am clammy and grey when I get home. Normally I wouldn't notice that distance at all.

Grim all round. I did make some chicken noodle soup earlier after Crusoe inspired me up thread. I had some at lunchtime.

All I am good for now is lighting the fire and reading my book with my eyes closed for a while.

Thanks lavendersun, I've forced my self out of bed, had a shower and a bacon butty stayed on the sofa all afternoon but my goodness I'm knackered now. Bed time can't come soon enough Sad x

I'm attempting to pack for 6 of us to go skiing tomorrow. Not doing a good job! Trying not to think about getting 4 kids on a plane let alone into ski school.

I can't stop coughing and am exhausted with it. Hoping they sell stronger stuff at the pharmacies in France than they do here!

Jessie you poor, poor thing. Flowers

Jessie Sad. I really hope you start to feel better in a day or so once the antibiotics start making a difference.

Crusoe - I am trying to take one dose of something or another at about 2pm so that I can manage the 2 mile round walk to school in the afternoon, I could drive of course but that would be admitting defeat and my dog would be miserable!

My head and sinuses are really awful by lunchtime. I bought Beechams All in one yesterday when I went shopping - an awful tasting liquid but I could feel it working ten minutes later, my head was draining by the second.

I do envy you skiing, we haven't managed it this year, but I don't envy you skiing with this nasty virus. I hope you manage to have a lovely time.

Just going into Day 4 here - DH, me, and DS2 & 3 (DD and DS1 at their dad's so have been spared it so far). DS2 & 3 are on the spectrum quite pronouncedly, and DS3 is nonverbal, so that's made it more difficult to deal with, as we never know what he wants or needs, and have to guess/sign/anticipate mostly.
Started with not feeling quite right for a while, and knew something was on the way when the boys started having meltdowns, as it's quite unusual these days, now they're both at special school.
Then got headache, sore throat, cough from hell, chest wheeziness, & high temp. We weren't eating, just surviving on squash & paracetamol. Just when that started to improve, DS2 & I got the temp spike and vomiting. Now have tinnitus & labyrinthitis. DH & Ds3 seem to be recovering though. It's weird how it seems to affect people in different ways though, and different severities.

Not quite sure how we're going to deal with this if it lasts into next term though - I've had this bloody bug (milder) over Christmas, my birthday, Valentines and Easter - it's fucked up every chance of having some 'down' time since last October, and we have so much going on - DH having to work abroad regularly, stuff with DD and DS1 going on, I'm studying a degree and trying to get a small business off the ground - I could really do with not having to deal with this as well! Fingers crossed it fucks off soon!!!

So what have people found that DOES help against this then? So far, it seems that antibiotics and Beechams is the way to go?

IV antibiotics? oh deary me, I can't see that happening here! We can't get the boys to take a spoon of calpol - even when it's spread on ice-cream! Fitting a drip's not going to work!!

Hi, curious if you guys have recovered from this horrid virus? X

I have been unwell since 10 December. Had dreadful cough and flu type symptoms. I was given antibiotics as I have asthma and this cleared the horrid plegm. I am really fit and train 6 days a week normally. Leading up to Christmas I felt a little better as long as I rested lots. I then went down with stomach cramps for several days made worse if I ate anything. When that went the bad chest came back. I have more of a hacking cough now like whooping cough.
I have occasional good days but I feel so tired after doing the slightest thing. I often feel dizzy and definitely shouldn't drive on occasions.
For the last week I have been having night sweats last night I had to change my nightwear 4 times I was soaked.
Everyone has been telling me I should go to the doctor and I have made an appointment Friday. I don't expect she will be able to do anything but I am so desperate to talk to someone about it. I am a really cheerful person but this has really got me down and I have lost my 'zip'
