Anyone had the cold virus that is going around?

just wondered if anyone has this nasty cold virus that's going around at the moment?

My cold started a week ago and this is the second week - I feel tired, congested and lightheaded - have never had a cold that has taken so long to go!

I've had the cough, then yesterday in work I felt really odd, dizzy and light headed and the side of my face and neck and inside my mouth hurt. Ears are hurting this evening.

This time last year I was recovering from flu, that was 10 times worse. Didn't get out of bed for a week.

Bruno1959 · 02/03/2016 21:39

Hope we are all better soon! :)

Nasty, nasty cold. I'm on day 13. Started with a dreadful sore throat (mostly at night) then potato head, headache, earache, STREAMING TAP FACE.

Sigh. Feeling ^slightly> better this evening and hoping tomorrow will be good but this fucker has fooled me once already.

AnthonyBlanche · 02/03/2016 21:57

I've got something very similar. Started last Wednesday with being very shivery and sore head and throat / chest. Since then I have developed horrible blocked sinuses, ear ache, runny nose with a bit of an upset stomach thrown in for good measure. Feel totally wiped out but haven't been able to take time off work due to important client meetings and work deadlines. I really hope it goes soon as it is much worse than a normal cold (which I hardly ever get).

Get well soon wishes to all the afflicted.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/03/2016 21:57

I have it now and I am miserable. The catarrh and pressure in my ears are at times unbearable, and my throat feels like I have tonsillitis. My toddler had it first and she's just recovering now after about 10 days.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant so can only take paracetamol. Sad

AnthonyBlanche · 02/03/2016 22:10

Poor you Kiwi. I am also mostly now deaf in one ear (hopefully only on a temporary basis)

Kbear · 02/03/2016 22:14

the kbears have all had it - DS 14 currently in the grip of it and been off school all week - he tells me at least four of his friends are also off school with same thing, I can't see him going back this week. He keeps getting that temp spike thing too which makes him vomit....

DD went back to college today - she's been ill since 22nd Feb so week and a bit. She said she felt so well today compared to earlier in the week she can't believe she felt so ill and was actually sympathetic to DS!

whatisforteamum · 03/03/2016 07:47

poor you with the vomitting too :( .Going in today after doing essentials for 3 days.My throat is so sore ive no idea how i can do 12 hr day Flowers for everyone with this.

Kbear · 03/03/2016 13:49

I find gargling with mild salt solution really helps a sore throat - give it a try

NoonAim · 03/03/2016 13:56

All I can hear in our office is cough, Cough, COUGH!! We all have horrible colds, runny noses, headaches, and this awful annoying cough Sad

FinestGrundyTurkey · 03/03/2016 14:01

I don't know if it's the same one but I had brief cold symptoms, followed by a hacking chesty cough for a week, & then got a proper cold, along with the cough, it was foul. The combination lasted well over 2 weeks.

It did stop eventually though

PollyPerky · 03/03/2016 15:14

We both had it for about 6 weeks- a virus, not really a cold- which comes and goes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/03/2016 17:32

Dp has just taken himself to bed feeling hideous. I thought I was better but have been very lightheaded and nauseous today - have other issues though so that might be unconnected to the cold virus.

Yuck to it all and I hope people feel better soon.

Youvegottobekidding · 04/03/2016 22:23

I started with a chesty cough 2 weeks ago. Developed into a mucus cough this week, had headache with every cough, felt rough all week, but still went to work. But last night, omg, my body felt like a pin cushion! I was in agony, I ached from head to toe, my throat is sore, my back is absolutely killing me & I don't usually have any back problems & now i have stomach pains too! I feel well & truly 'broken'.

I've just been taken a couple of paracetamol. I hate feeling this poorly I'm already fed up as it is. It's a bloody nuisance when you need to just be able to get on with things isn't it? And OH is at work most of all day tomorrow so I'm left at home with the kids who just get on beautifully..... Not!

Hope we all start feeling better soon!

LowDudgeon · 04/03/2016 22:30

These are good - 250mg paracetamol in each plus a decongestant & expectorant - 99p (I think) in Bodycare. Can be taken with ibuprofen. Kept me sane Grin

You can also get the same stuff as hot drink sachets & lob in some honey & orange juice.

Anyone had the cold virus that is going around?
LakeFlyPie · 04/03/2016 22:52

Swine flu is around at the moment (and probably a host of other lurgies too).
I've had recurring symptoms every couple of weeks since I was laid up with super evil virus about 8 weeks ago (2 days bed bound which I haven't been for 20 odd years!). Nowhere near as bad as the original version but sore throat, swollen glands, snotty nose and the latest version this week has a tricky and phlegmy cough too.

shadowfax07 · 05/03/2016 01:55

I'm on day 12 of it, my sister gave it to me (thanks, sis Hmm). So far I've had a head cold, morphing into sinusitis, which morphed into laryngitis complete with swollen glands and irritating cough (I woke myself up whimpering one night), and now I have a head cold complete with sneezing fits every five minutes or so.

To say I'm fed up now is an understatement...

Minime85 · 05/03/2016 13:00

Week 3 of it was the worst. I'm on week 5 now and still have a chesty cough but none of the other symptoms which really exhausted me for weeks

Powaqa · 05/03/2016 13:35

Im in week 2 - I feel human now but still full of snot and a nasty cough that wont go away. Doing extra pelvic exercises so I dont wet my self during any Sneezing and coughing fits.

I have also managed to infect the whole household which means all our Mothers Day plans have to be shelved

Blueskies80 · 05/03/2016 20:21

We've had a rotten run of it too with the six week cold that morphs into different things but with really bad sinus pain and awful cough, a couple of weeks off and now flu, me and dc have been bed bound for a lot of this week.
It is not nice and I can't wait for it to go. Definitely seems worse this year.

PurplePotatoes · 05/03/2016 20:27

Yep, I had it for 5 weeks and now after a week of feeling better I've got another cold. I'm pregnant as well so haven't taken anything for it so it's been grim!

LBOCS2 · 05/03/2016 20:31

I'm 16 days in now. Started with a temperature and feeling ropey, turned into a terrible cough which made me sick, then full blown cold symptoms and now I have dreadful sinus pain. I'm 35 weeks pregnant so can't take anything good for it and coughing is not making my pelvic floor very happy.

Notsoblonde · 06/03/2016 10:42

Week 6 here, still no voice, did go back to work but off again so blooming fed up!

MabelFurball · 06/03/2016 20:58

Day 10 here with the vilest sore throat ever. Never had anything so painful before and nothing is helping. Feel really tired and fed up with it.

Louisa111 · 08/03/2016 09:22

I have had this for nearly 3 weeks and it's terrible. I rarely get colds and if I do I shift them quick. But this virus is really hanging around and the cough is terrible.
People keep telling me to go to the doctors but what can they do, I think it just has to run it's course.

The worst thing is it tricks you into thinking it's going and you have a few days of feeling better then if just comes back again Sad
