dont bother with potions. honestly dont

cheapo conditioner , loads of it and a nit comb

CrocodileKate · 01/01/2007 19:53

I got the nitty gritty comb. Thankfully that and a ton of conditioner sorted ours.

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 19:53

Hmm not sure I have the patience for that Pecka, and I'd have to do all 3 kids until they were clear, plus myself.

Is Hedrin any good or Full Marks ???

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 19:55

Can't even find the nit comb we had so can't do anything tonight.

Tinker · 01/01/2007 19:58

Oh, we've been visited by the nit fairy as well. Nitty Gritty comb is good, best I've used, and have used a lot! Only do the conditioner thing evry other day - or is it every 3rd after a week?

ScoobyDooooo · 01/01/2007 19:59

Dont bother with the nit lotions they are rubbish, use lots of conditioner or tea tree oil & a nit comb.

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 19:59

How much is the nitty gritty comb ??

OP posts:
Tinker · 01/01/2007 20:03

It's about £10 online or at Lloyd's chemist - which is dear and I know you'll not want to pay it but - so is the chemical stuff and with 3 kids you will get your use out of it. The plastic ones break, just not as effective.

Pinkchampagne · 01/01/2007 20:03

Join the club! I have just spent ages combing the little beasts out of DS2's hair tonight!
Tee tree conditioner is good to use alongside the nit comb. The potions are very expensive & some of them are useless!

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 20:03

Anyone ??

Having a slight panic attack here lol

Can u tell we haven't had them before ??

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 01/01/2007 20:04

Never heard of the nitty gritty comb! What's that??

MamaG · 01/01/2007 20:05

nutcracker, trust me, no potions work. They might kill the live nits, but not the eggs which then hatch. And Breed.

Ask your Doc to prescribe a Bug Buster kit, you get excellent nit combs, and if its for DS it will be free. Use that and a ton of conditioner.

Glassofwine · 01/01/2007 20:05

You can get nitty gritty comb on prescription from gp in childs name, so free.

They are a bugger and nothing is foolproof.

misdee · 01/01/2007 20:05

i would just got for wet combing each night nutty. once you get rid of the first main lot it gets quicker each night. you can get the nitty gritty comb on perscription as well. hth!

Posey · 01/01/2007 20:07

If you want to use a potion, don't bother with full marks. Totally useless. I did use Hedrin, it worked. But for all the hassle and the cost it doesn't stop the little blighters reappearing a week later.
I would recomend the Bug Buster nit combs. Really thought I'd cleared dd's hair of nits using another nit comb, the bugbusted it and got about another trillion out [bleugh emoticon]

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 20:09

Right ok so big bottle of tea tree conditioner and nitty gritty comb.

How do i do mine on my own though or is that a stupid question ???

OP posts:
Tinker · 01/01/2007 20:10

£7.99 here but if you can get it on prescription, do that

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 20:10

Oh didn't realise you can get it on perscription but it could take me a week to get an appointment.

OP posts:
PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/01/2007 20:10

just do it in the shower, keep on combing for twenty minutes even after you think you have done it and do it every day in the shower

Pinkchampagne · 01/01/2007 20:10

Just use lots of conditioner & go through your hair with a nit comb.

Posey · 01/01/2007 20:10

Its a complete nightmare doing your own hair I'm afraid. What is your hair like?

nutcracker · 01/01/2007 20:12

Don't have a shower which is why it's gonna be a pain

OP posts:
nutcracker · 01/01/2007 20:13

My hair is straight and shoulder length.

Frostythesurfmum · 01/01/2007 20:17

Are you still in touch with a HV? Mine gives me prescriptions for lotions for dsd's hair, I don't have to go to the GP.

I would have a comb through everyone's hair before you decide what to do. You don't all necessarily have them, so might not all need treating.

I only ever treat dsd with a lotion if she has hundreds. If she only has a few, then wet combing with tons of conditioner works, but you need to do it every 2-3 days for a couple of weeks.

I use the cheapest Asda conditioner which is about 30p for a big bottle. Works perfectly well.

Pinkchampagne · 01/01/2007 20:18

Where do you normally wash your hair? In the bath?
