Well, DH came home last night after 2 weeks away and we had a huge row and I never once considered running down to the shops to by some. I think if I can get through that then I must be well and truly on my way! (BTW, we made up later )

imaginaryfriend · 16/02/2007 10:29

NMFT, that's great, brilliant in fact. I still feel a strange itching in my fingers to smoke something when I feel highly stressed!

OP posts:
Nip · 19/02/2007 13:03

Ok so one week in and i've survived so far!!! I've managed to get through an arguement with DH (unfortunately by diverting to the local pub, instead of the newsagents!) - but a vodka and ornage juice is better than a fag!LOL

Cravings do seem to be disappearing and i'm feeling so good in myself - i feel like i have lots more energy!

charliecat · 20/02/2007 11:22

Just caught up with this thread. Your all doing great
Well Done.
Its easy to go back to smoking, having Just One often leads to Just one whole packet, one whole day, one whole week....oh...that crept up didnt it.
Ive been off the fags for 2 years and 3 months now

charliecat · 20/02/2007 11:22

(IF, flat sounds LOVELY}

NotMeForThis · 20/02/2007 11:39

Good going NIP! Hi IF - yes I know all about those itchy fingers! Found out yesterday DH's grandpa has a tumor on his lung. We don't know yet exactly what the diagnosis or prognosis is but even so. He never smoked but his wife did for many many years. That's enough to keep me from 'scratching' just now. I have to admit I still miss it a bit, but I'm beginning to really hate the "idea" of it if you know what I mean.

megandsoph · 21/02/2007 20:59

Hello all Can I join in please? Just wanted to say well done everyone!!!

Chucked my last 5 fags in the bin last night and have been using the inhaler today and also have been to see a stop smoking councillor, as well as a lady from Ash who will be calling every two weeks.

Have smoked since the age of 14, between 20 and 40 a day.

I tried to quit last year but failed (sp?) but seem to not be suffering as badly this time, although worried I will be tempting fate saying this.

Haven't read the thread yet (will do now) to see where everyone is at.

Hiya again CC Already saved whyquit in favs again LOL

charliecat · 22/02/2007 10:34

Hiya Drown those fags in the bin..just in case you find yourself digging at the bottom to refind them...or isd it just me who would do that?
Stopping the smoking is THE best thing you could do for yourself

megandsoph · 22/02/2007 11:00

Hehe CC. It did cross my mind first thing yesterday morning but that bin bag is long gone now.

Still feeling ok. Am abit concerned that this is the calm before the storm though but we'll see.

charliecat · 22/02/2007 11:14

Your still getting your fix from the inhaler. Drop that and suddenly the twitchy itch will switch on
Southeastastra, you are entering my sleep thoughts now....woke up thinking about you Where are ya?

NotMeForThis · 27/02/2007 07:17

Hi guys - how are you all doing? I'm still going - yay me. I haven't had one but still think about it every single day. Once or twice I've even checked DH's pockets to see if he's lapsed in hopes of having a sneaky one myself. But luckily he hasn't!

I do seem, however, to have started drinking more. I've gone from someone who hardly ever drinks to having a the odd glass of red wine in the evening a few times a week. Doesn't exactly make me an alcoholic, I know, but for me it's a big change. It does seem to ease my craving though as it provides that same kind of easing out of all the day's tensions that I used to get from ciggarettes. So suppose the really big question is.........

.............how many calories in a glass of red wine?

Nip · 01/03/2007 15:39

Oh my - until i just looked back at this thread i had totally forgotten about having a cig since last sunday (when i had a melt down and nearly had one)!

Its been just over 2 weeks and it doesnt seem to be bothering me too much at all...

i CAN do this!!!

sophiewd · 01/03/2007 16:31

Myself and DH stopped smoking on Tuesday so it ahs been a whole two days. So far so good. we have nothing planned for the next few weeks so no need to go to the pub etc. Also helps that Neither of us are well ast the moment with the dreaded lurgy so really don't want one anyway. Nice to see a supoort thread.

Nip · 19/03/2007 13:37

How is everyone doing? I've just worked out that i've been off the cigs for 5 weeks!! I cant believe it . I even went out (drinking) for the first time in months and wasnt bothered at all - although the next morning my clothes STUNK - revolting!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well.
x

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 19:25

charliecat · 24/03/2007 15:12

Custy, you will only have to do this AGAIN if you have a fag now, tommorow or in a months time. You WANT to stop smoking, well by having a fag thats no way to become one.
What else do you want me to say?
(sorry about my absence BTW folks....when this falls off my active convos I seemt ovanish)
Go custy, go Custy....
Going to read other posts under that one now

charliecat · 24/03/2007 15:14

I went from drinking not very much to finding myself withg a beer in hand almost every night But I figured 1 beer a night was better than 30 fags a day, and I can drop the beer out of my life, the fags were not so easy.
Doing well everyone

charliecat · 24/03/2007 15:17

----------------

The Smoker?s Vow

To be said just before taking your first puff after
having quit for any appreciable period of time

----------------

With this puff I enslave myself
to a lifetime of addiction.
While I can?t promise to always love you,
I do promise to obey every craving and
support my addiction to you
no matter how expensive you become.

I will let no husband or wife,
no family member or friend,
no doctor or any other health professional,
no employer or government policy,
no burns or no stench,
no cough or raspy voice,
no cancer or emphysema,
no heart attack or stroke,
no threat of loss of life or limbs,
come between us.

I will smoke you forever
from this day forth,
for better or worse,
whether richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health,
till death do us part!

?You may now light the cigarette.?

?I now pronounce you a full-fledged smoker.?

----------------

Postscript: While 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce, the addiction to smoking will last a lifetime?albeit a shorter lifetime. Once a smoker, annulment of the addiction is impossible. One puff can result in a permanent relapse. Don?t take the chance of relapsing to this marriage of inconvenience.

charliecat · 24/03/2007 15:19

I hope you havent ran out the door up the shop for a smoke custy...I really hope you havent.
The thing you MUST get in your head is that a fag doesnt stop the cat from being run over, or dh from being a fecking twat, and it doesnt stop the kids from fighting, and it doesnt make the dinner cook any quicker or make your job an easier...it doesnt fix a damn thing.

Tortington · 24/03/2007 22:21

i new you would rescue me charliecat.

still here fag free - 22 hours.

don't laught at me counting in hours!

another 26 and i am nicotine free.

want to be nicotine free for monday

charliecat · 25/03/2007 10:31

Good grief one day already That madness does stop, you do end up where 5 mins goes by and you havent thought of fags, then 10 mins , 20 minutes and one day you will realise you have had a fagthoughtfree hour.
Then 2 hours.
And you nearly faint when you realise you havent thought about fags for 4 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So just keep at it.
What has kept me stopped is KNOWING that ill have to do it all over agian if I have just one, coz one is never just one, its the one after it coz it didnt taste good enough and the other 8 to finish of the packet...then you wake up the next day and find yourself zombie like going to the shop at 6.46 am.
So stay with this, it is NOT going to be any easier after easter, or after the shops open or after the aliens land, whatvever excuse your brain trys to bribe you with, ignore it.
Thats the nicotine monster talking, wanting you hooked.
Ignore and conquer(sp??!!)

Tortington · 25/03/2007 17:03

ok. now i am 41 hours fag free. 8 more hours and i a nicotine free.
