Miaou's pointless poll of the day - Have you ever fainted?

I've lost consciousness a couple of times, but always "come to" before I hit the deck - never actually gone out cold. Just wondered how common it is really!

Oh god yes, I am petrified of fainting when Im with DS on my own.

Gem13 · 11/12/2006 10:24

Several times. The first time was at primary school when my teacher shouted at me. I hit my head on a desk as I went down. The rest of the class thought I was dead!

Other times - at the opera (friend thought I'd had a heart attack as I slumped beside her), once from extreme back pain, once when a nurse said 'ok' while she was still taking blood and I looked at my arm and the needle.

I have low blood pressure though so it's not suprising. I hate the unpredictability especially when pregnant and in charge of my other children.

Dophus · 11/12/2006 10:26

Never

Bugsy2 · 11/12/2006 10:36

I've gone out cold three times. All during the immediate aftermath of ex-H's affair. I have very low blood pressure & a low resting heart rate & that was despite all the stress hormones rushing around my body. On each occasion I had had a few glasses of wine (& I really do mean 2 or 3 not a skinful) and because the wine causes vasodilation & an even greater drop in blood pressure, I hit the deck each time. Hideous bruising on the back of my head & felt death like for 48 hours after each episode. Cardiologist told me to eat more salt!!!!

I hadn't until this pregnancy. Started getting dizzy spells at about 15 weeks and I've fainted three times on the bus. There's never any seats and I have to stand for an hour- I've cracked my head open and sprained my ankle. Thankfully I'm looking pregnant now so usually get a seat- more dignified than falling in somebody's lap I'm sure.

whoopsfallenoffthexmastree · 11/12/2006 10:45

I fainted with heat exhaustion in the middle of November! Woke up to my boss dragging me through to the first aid room whilst the cleaner took over as Lifeguard!!!

PortAndLemonaid · 11/12/2006 10:53

Once on a hot and crowded train after giving blood . I didn't quite black out, though, just went physically and mentally woozy and sagged at the knees and my kind fellow travellers stopped me falling over and then got me a seat .

SchneeBallFight · 11/12/2006 10:57

many times!

First time was into the grannie knickers in woolies when I was about 14 Woke up with the whole shop around me.

Fainted in Barcelona on a school trip and was rescued by hunky french medical students

Fainted at work when I was anaemic - fell of a chair with a thump and the manager thought I was dead!

Never fainted when I was pg but felt dizzy a lot! Apparently when my mum was expecting me she fainted in every shop in our town lol!

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 11/12/2006 10:59

I have an impressive 8 times (just counted lol).
The last time was after bloood tests.
Its the reason behind my anxiety and panic attacks.
Horrible horrible.

arfishyheauheauheau · 11/12/2006 11:05

These are all very impressive. They completely put my 'passing out on the packed commuter train' incident to shame.

My sleepwalking incident is much better.

Squiffy · 11/12/2006 11:27

A few times. Most spectacular one was in bar in Spain when this guy I really really fancied kissed me and I literally swooned He and my friends had to carry me out of the club and they wouldn't let any of us back in because they thought I must have been drunk.

Reader, I married him.

moonshine · 11/12/2006 11:32

Never. Am amazed at people's regular incidences - I've never seen anyone faint!

MistleToo · 11/12/2006 11:38

No but I'm really ill in any way shape or form (touch wood!

Miaou · 11/12/2006 14:14

lulumama · 11/12/2006 14:19

no...never, but my twin sister has !

achristmasshoop · 11/12/2006 14:23

I kind of fainted at work the other day!
Luckily I was going to the loo at the time so wasn't in full view of everyone on the shop floor, but still...
Everything just went black and I remember putting my hands out to stop myself, but then there was this pain in my tooth!! I think I sat up almost instantly, but I felt such a div!
PMSL at fiiiivemadmarchhaaaares!!

3frenchHenniePennies · 11/12/2006 14:26

Not personally, but years ago when I did my nurse training one of my colleagues and I were watching a procedure, it was a little gory, she promptly fainted on the floor, the chap in the bed opposite just saw her legs appear under the curtains and heard a huge bang and thought she'd died!! (was very funny at the time and the patient did see the funny side!)

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 11/12/2006 14:28

I have

When they put my epidural in
When I had food poisoning once

SantasPersonalClown · 11/12/2006 14:29

I've started to since being PG with ds. All the doctors can think of that my body can't regulate my temperature properly during the summer and as soon as it gets over 25C it's hell for me.
I hate the heat!!!

Yes, aged about 13, I had d&v, got up to go to the bathroom, everyone else was downstairs.

Parents heard me fall and came up and took me back to bed. I only remember coming to on my bed, I felt like I was upside down, and the thing I remember most is the buzzing in my ears (blood rushing back to head I suppose).

Horrible.

RnBee · 11/12/2006 14:38

A few times. First was when I was about 15 and I was getting out of the bath. Next thing I knew I was lying on my back felling very bruised (good thing I fell out of the bath and not in it...)

Recently when my friend gave me an indian head massage in a pub. I had had a glass of wine which aparently is a BIG no no. It was so bizarre, after about 2 mins of her starting I suddenly felt like I had had about 10 glasses of wine, stood up to go to the toilet, felt all hot and dizzy and passed out before I could go in there. Then came round and went to sit down again and passed out again. My freind felt very guilty.

Even more recently I had been on a juice-fast detox for 8 days and very stupidly decided to have a mojito at someones bday party. I started feeling hot and dizzy and everything went black. I stayed like this for a full 5-10 mins. I literally couldn't see anything.

I think I have learned my lesson now...

Another

chenin · 11/12/2006 14:44

Yes, I have a couple of times... its a really weird feeling.

When I was at secondary school, aged about 12-14, me and my friends learned how to 'make' ourselves faint. I could do it now if I wanted... I'm sure its very dangerous actually but we all went through a phase of doing it... you would only pass out for seconds but what madness! Can't believe I used to do that!

mathilde · 11/12/2006 14:50

Common if you have low blood pressure.
Or even low blood sugar.

uwila · 11/12/2006 14:56

Yes, after giving blood at Uni, I passed out in Chemistry lab. I apparently didn't weigh enough to give blood -- those were the days!
