How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?

Bit of a random thread but here it goes!:

Do you drink coffee and if so, how many cups per day?

Do you drink it because you enjoy the taste or do you drink it to give you an energy boost/keep you awake?

Personally i have a really low threshold to caffeine, therefore i can only manage a cup a day, if i have more i seem to feel a lot more stressed! I am a new coffee drinker, so i think this could be why! I drink it mainly to give me an energy boost, but mixed with hot choccie, i like it :)

Reason for post: office discussion!

Two cups.

Chocolate has caffeine in it by the way.

DansonslaCapucine · 13/07/2015 10:50

Sorry, I misread the hot choccie for chocolate.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/07/2015 10:54

I usually have three coffees, and four teas.

I drink it because I love the taste and I'm addicted to caffeine. I get headaches and feel quite unwell if I don't drink enough of it.

cuntyMcCunterson · 13/07/2015 10:55

If I'm at work I have about 5/6cups a day, unless it's crazy busy when I'll only managed 1, If I'm off work I have none.
I drink it as I like the taste and don't feel overly affected effected? by the caffeine

DawnRaid · 13/07/2015 10:55

2-3 cups of decaf and 1-2 cups f tea per day.

I like the taste and its a habit, really.

Used to drink proper coffee, but started to get jittery so switched to decaff.

Everythinghaschanged · 13/07/2015 10:56

I have one at work, none at home

SoupDragon · 13/07/2015 10:57

One in the morning with breakfast. Sometimes I'll have one if out and about.

I tend to have tea during the day - maybe 2 or 3 cups depending how much procrastination I am attempting.

Everythinghaschanged · 13/07/2015 10:57

If I have a strong coffee out and about eg Costa I get jittery and palpitations so only have one occasionally

DaysAreWhereWeLive · 13/07/2015 10:57

None! I've quit caffeine because it was making me feel quite bloated and queasy. Day Three, going strong...

ArseForElbow · 13/07/2015 11:00

I drink cappuccino and tend to have 3 cups per day. I ave bipolar so am only 'allowed' one coffee.

perfectlybroken · 13/07/2015 11:02

6-8. Shameless addict.

GemmaTeller · 13/07/2015 11:10

About 6 or 7, sometimes more.

I try and alternate tea and coffee but prefer coffee.

I love costa and nespresso,

PeppaWellington · 13/07/2015 11:17

Just made a caffetiere of decaff. An unusual treat.

I don't drink coffee every day but if I get one from Costa or somewhere, it's usually caffeinated and large and YUM. At home I'm more likely to have decaff. I have instant at home but don't drink it much.

I probably have about 4 coffees a week, on average.

Normally 3 cups of Nescafe original or gold blend in the morning to get me started. I've drank coffee for a very long time so I don't find it works very well as an energy booster for me - well, not the Nescafe. Maybe another few throughout the day but never after 6pm. If I want a hot drink after that I switch to tea - I call it tea but it's basically hot water and milk that I threaten with the teabag - it's so mild.
Machine or fresh ground coffee I can feel the kick but don't drink it that often.
I LOVE the taste - anything coffee flavoured in fact.
My dsis absolutely hates it - I kid you not, she knows if you've stirred her tea with the spoon you've stirred coffee with and won't drink it freak :)

Ellexx · 13/07/2015 11:35

i have just made a lovely mocha for myself! hot choccie, gold blend, hot water and milk! everyone in the office thinks it is odd, but it keeps me happy haha :)

a few in the office said they would feel drowsy without their morning coffee!

As a new coffee drinker if i have too much i get palpatations too!

i'm quite surprised several of you manage 6 or 7 a day, i assume that has built up through the years? i would probably be jumping up and down all day if i had that amount!

Probably 3 or 4 caffeinated and a decaf in the evening.

Ellex some coffees have lower caffeine content than others if you find you're sensitive. I find coffee from Costa or Nero gives me the jitters although most of my coffee is drunk at home and I choose beans that are naturally lower in caffeine

pinkfrocks · 13/07/2015 12:40

none. I can't as I have a health issue that means no tea or coffee.

holmessweetholmes · 13/07/2015 12:54

Usually 1 coffee (cafetiere) and 1-3 teas. I never drink instant and can't handle really strong coffee. I drink it for the taste, not for the effect.

Even though I have more tea than coffee, and not tons of either, I'm definitely a bit addicted, as I get a headache if I haven't had a tea or coffee by about 11 a.m.

ouryve · 13/07/2015 12:57

One large, fairly robust one, with my breakfast, then either a tea or coffee, later in the morning. I can't tolerate caffeine much after noon. I drink herbal tea or water for the rest of the day.

ouryve · 13/07/2015 12:59

Oh and it is for the taste, so always fresh and never instant. Instant, even decaff, goes straight through me, anyhow.

CainInThePunting · 13/07/2015 13:00

I could drink coffee all day but I try to resrict it to three or four mugs a day usually, however, I've been up since 5 so I've just put on a fresh pot.

itsonlysubterfuge · 13/07/2015 13:03

I have never had a cup of coffee in my life. Never even tried it, but the smell is absolutely horrible.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/07/2015 13:11

Before pregnancy it was 4/5 cups a day to give me a boost and I like the taste. I drink it black with 1-2 sugars. Now I'm pregnant it's 1-2 a day for the same reasons. I also get terrible headaches if I don't have any. I only drink instant but I'm fussy with brands Grin

GatoNaranja · 13/07/2015 13:17

One in the morning. I recently stopped coffee altogether and had a terrible withdrawal headache for several days - made me realise that it may not be the best thing to put into my system.

On my more saintly days I drink juice/smoothie made up of spinach, kale, lime and one fruit plus almonds and seeds. I never fancy coffee after that as it seems to give me a natural boost of energy.
