How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?

Bit of a random thread but here it goes!:

Do you drink coffee and if so, how many cups per day?

Do you drink it because you enjoy the taste or do you drink it to give you an energy boost/keep you awake?

Personally i have a really low threshold to caffeine, therefore i can only manage a cup a day, if i have more i seem to feel a lot more stressed! I am a new coffee drinker, so i think this could be why! I drink it mainly to give me an energy boost, but mixed with hot choccie, i like it :)

Reason for post: office discussion!

Sorry if that sounded sanctimonious. I do have several alcohol and cigarette related vices!

GatoNaranja · 13/07/2015 13:19

And I love a large sweet Costa coffee whenever we take a long journey somewhere!)

My daily consumption usually enters into double figures.... Yes I know that is a hell of a lot, but am needed at both ends of the clock currently and am finding this is my only functioning method!

Not helped by the fact that I absolutely love the taste of coffee...

I drink about one cup of coffee a month, I can't be bothered to make it (DH only buys whole beans and it seems a faff) so I just have one if I'm around when DH is making one, which isn't that often. I just like the taste of it, and I have a high tolerance to caffeine so don't notice much of an effect.
I drink green tea about 4 times a week, I like the taste and the refreshing feel to it. It takes me ages to finish a hot drink (about an hour) as I can't drink it until it's slightly lukewarm.

Two to three large mugs of quite strong filter coffee. My favourite breakfast cup is one of those French style ones and holds about 3 cups of coffee.

So that's about 5 cups of coffee or more.
Plus one cup of tea.

SwedishEdith · 13/07/2015 13:38

Probably about 3 or 4 a day plus about 3 mugs of tea. I don't notice that he keeps me awake - I don't have any problems getting to sleep although I do go to bed late. Only ever black and with no sugar.

BleachedBarnet · 13/07/2015 13:48

Pre-pregnancy I would typically have 2/3 flat whites a day, we're spoilt in our little office by having a proper coffee machine so we're all pretty good baristas Grin Those would be double shots so 4-6 shots of coffee... pretty addicted! I drank both for the caffeine effect and the taste.

I was determined to cut back but keep drinking it while pregnant but unfortunately the taste of it now turns my stomach so I had to go cold turkey Sad

One but two if I'm very tired.

Way too much. I have at least 4 cups, and it's not instant either, it's the strong, cafetiere type. Don't drink any after noon though, otherwise I can't sleep.

Reasons for drinking coffee:

Habit

Something to do at work - excuse to chat

Hobby - love going out for a coffee to a cosy cafe, gazing out of the window daydreaming/people watching

I like the taste

It's social i.e. Let's go out for coffee!

When I was pregnant I drank mint tea - rank doesn't cover it.

toffeeboffin · 13/07/2015 16:33

Weird but I don't like coffee flavored stuff - chocolate, coffee cake etc

Ugh. Bring on the espresso!

PavlovtheCat · 13/07/2015 20:13

between 4-6 cups a day. I enjoy it, but it also gives m an energy boost. I also drink it to procrastinate at work.

PavlovtheCat · 13/07/2015 20:13

it doesn't keep me awake at night.

Finallyonboard · 13/07/2015 20:27

I only drink decaffeinated on a daily basis but will treat myself to a caffeinated drink and a cake at a coffee shop.

Penfold007 · 13/07/2015 20:58

I had a small cup of coffee today, first one I've had for about a month. It doesn't give me an energy boost or cause sleepiness. I think I love the smell more than the taste but no real idea why I hardly ever drink it.

EmmaWoodlouse · 13/07/2015 21:57

About 4 mugs, sometimes less, very rarely more and I don't really enjoy it if I do have more. Almost always black, though I quite like gingerbread lattes and will treat myself very occasionally. It's partly force of habit, partly because I like the taste, partly because when I drink black coffee I don't take sugar and if I didn't drink that I would probably drink more sugary/calorific drinks. I don't seem to be addicted, as I don't really miss it if I don't feel like having any one day for any reason. People say I MUST get headaches if I don't drink it, but I'm not at all prone to headaches in general (have literally only ever had them after actually bumping my head).

EmmaWoodlouse · 13/07/2015 21:58

Also, it doesn't keep me awake. If I'm really tired I sometimes make one when I get home, hoping it will give me an energy boost, but I can still fall asleep if I make the mistake of lying down on my bed "for a moment"!

catlovingdoctor · 13/07/2015 22:01

Usually 2 or 3. I need it for the caffeine, and I love the taste. If I couldn't have it I may as well not get out of bed. I drink the starbucks-brand instant coffee and lattes/cappuccinos from shops etc

applecatchers36 · 13/07/2015 22:22

Usually 1 cup of coffee and 3 teas ( some normal / some herbal). Love taste & smell of coffee, esp from a cafetiere. We have nespresso & it's not as good, tastes stale not fresh.

Will occasionally order an espresso after a big meal out, do think it gives you a lift but maybe psychological.
