Deja vu and fainting

Yesterday I had lots of deja vu episodes, (this has happened before). Today the deja vu started up again, and I started to feel really upset about what I was 'seeing', then I blacked out. I came too suddenly and felt id been dreaming. It was really strange and difficult to explain properly. I felt nauseous afrerwards for some time. Ok now, just a bit puzzled by it all.

So I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything like it too?

Please get it checked out. I'm not medical at all, but I do remember reading/watching/hearing about something similar many years ago, and that these symptoms shouldn't be ignored. Can't remember the details, sorry.

You definitely need to go to the doctor. Has this suddenly just started in the past few weeks or when did you get this happen before? Are you taking any new medication or anything?

It does sound like it could be a form of epilepsy. You need to be checked.

Thankyou for your replies, I will get it checked out. The deja vu has been increasing over the last year or so, but yesterday's was intense. Will make an appointment today.

I had an appointment with the nurse today for something else and mentioned it to her. She has made me an appointment for two weeks time (earliest appt), and said from my description possibly epilepsy.

Agree with above. I would want to see you sooner than 2 weeks. We have a first seizure clinic here and you would have an appointment through in that time. Also please stop driving until you have been sorted out. You say they are increasing in frequency which is why I would act sooner.

I have spoken to the duty doc just now and they are seeing me tomorrow morning.

I saw the doctor today who said I probably fainted due to the intensity of the deja vus I was having. She is referring me to a neurologist though, as the deja vus I get need looking at.
She did say I was ok to drive. I think if I have one of my deja vu days, I will avoid driving.

What are déjà vu episodes?

On further talk with the doctor we are not sure if they were deja vu. I wake up and all day I will get flash backs from a dream, and it all feels familiar. It's never bothered me until the other day when it got really intense, and I and was upset by what I was 'seeing', then blacked out. I feel a right idiot by being upset by something that wasn't real.

Ariadne. As OP has described Deja Vu episodes are chunks of time where you feel you reliving a sequence of events for the second (or more) time. Often mundane, you feel that you have been here before and you know what is going to happen/be said, before it does.

It is sometimes fleeting and happens to most people but other times quite drawn out and intense. Usually you feel detached from reality whilst it is happening.

My daughter gets this and it has been diagnosed as epilepsy. Make sure they give you proper tests x

I get this and had investigations for temporal lobe epilepsy. I find getting very tired is the trigger for mine, or higher than usual stress at work. Definitely do not drive when you are having these; i had to swap my driving licence for a disabled persons bus pass for a year on diagnosis, until I had 12 months seizure free but I believe the rules have changed recently.

The deja vu/jamais vu is really unsettling and always makes me have to lie down as I feel so faint.

I have had this on occasions since I was 8 years old and I'm in my 40s now. Doctors have never been bothered and never referred me. Should I be worried at my age?

ive had deja vu and hallucinations for years , i had to have an mri and eeg.
luckily nothing abnormal in my brain but as i wasnt experiencing anything whilst these tests were taken consultant said it wouldnt show up simple partial seizures (which they think im having)
they did say not to drive (i cant)and dont go in/around water alone.just in case.
psychiatrist on the other hand thinks that your brain starts playing tricks on you when you are tired/stressed.

I've seen a neurologist and he said it's highly likely to be complex partial seizures. I'm to have an EEG and MRI, and maybe sleep deprevation EEG etc, depending on what shows up on the first one.
I have to stop driving and inform DVLA which is the biggest thing for me. I'm trying to figure out how life is going to work with no car, I know it will carry on, but need to work out how.

Glad you've been seen. Life without a car can be done but it is difficult. Check on your local council website as when my husband had to give up driving due to seizures he got a free bus pass. You also may be due free rail travel too. Then work out how much you spend on your car and translate that into taxis too. We were lucky in that we have a great bus service which helped.

EEG has come back normal, so now im to have a sleep deprived one.
MRI results not in yet.

What are the chances of anything showing up on the EEG if I don't have a seizure at the time. Dr Google says highly unlikely

I've have this problem. When I was younger I collapsed, and had seizures/fits. They said I'd grow out of it (I was six), but I've still collapsed as an adult and had seizures. They say I have mild epilepsy. But like you they can't necessarily diagnose me because they can't find anything. I've had heart trace, blood tests and was meant to have a CT scan years ago but found out I was pregnant so couldn't.

Do you know when it's going to happen or is it out of the blue and sudden? I know what you mean about the dreaming feeling, it's like a rushing sensation to me. I can usually control it by stopping what I'm doing and concentrating on my hands to the side of my face (if I can't see it, I'm going!) and touching my fingers to my palm or thumb to forefinger really quickly, then sitting if it's longer than normal/vision hasn't returned, it makes me shake and breathless.
I've not had EEG or MRI. I'd love an explanation too but it seems it's taken them years to even bother so I just live with it. :(

The collapse was out of the blue. I've been having the 'deja vu's' for years, just didn't realise they were a problem. This time the deja vu's got really intense right before I blacked out.

My MRI showed no focal seizures and was normal, yay!! I've still got to have a sleep deprived EEG.

Hi another update. I had a sleep deprived EEG which showed temporal sharp waves. I've an appointment to see the neurologist in 6 weeks. Any idea if this is epilepsy?
