For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Hi all, Aviatrix, I think the bell might get good reviews, it is near Abergevenny Franny. We are pushing the boat out, as I feel a bit sad about turning 35. The recipe is a Sophie Grigson actually, she isn't on tv so much these days. It came with my riverford veg box, if you look at their webb site, some of their recipes on there, we have liked everyone we have tried so far.
Oh and Aviatrix, I can so identify with that feeling of your boobs filling up with milk, it really makes missing them a very physical thing.

I did a veg minestrone soup for lunch today, so will count that as at least three portions. Have spiced roasted cauliflower, pototoes and winter cabbage to look forward to tonight.
I really feel that as a family that we are eating better and better, and at least some of the inspiraton for that comes from this thread. So thank you every one, esp you Franny

FrannyandZooey · 23/11/2006 18:00

Oh gosh

well

I do hope it is useful, I really find it helpful to be able to come here and focus on healthy stuff, and I love the group thing we have going on

I have the opposite problem to full breasts, might start a thread actually: how to keep supply going when your dc only has occasional feeds?

Greensleeves · 23/11/2006 18:07

tis a brilliant thread Franny, I am quite hooked on it really (although I often lurk because my dietary worthiness is patchy at best)

I have had 2 tangerines, a banana, an apple, and am having carrots, French beans and onions with dinner... not 10 today, unless you count fermented grapes

But I did struggle back from the GP surgery via the supermarket in the pissing rain with no coat and two big bags of spuds, so I shurely excel in the exercise stakes

Papillon · 23/11/2006 18:15

Franny tandem feed, let your dp have some too And yes tis a great thread this one, I am a groupie and proud of it.

Greensleeves lovely to see you back Hope you are overdoing it dragging sodden groceries around - get a taxi, fook the exercise atm!

Happy Birthday Overrun for yesterday xxxx

I have just eaten a huge plateful of roasted - potato, sweet potato, beetroot, tomato, brocolli, onion, garlic and tomato.

FrannyandZooey · 23/11/2006 18:15

I am not sure if "wearing no coat" counts as exercise, Greeny

FrannyandZooey · 23/11/2006 18:17

Paps

I know I am a keen proponent of extended breastfeeding but I do draw the line when they have beards

Papillon · 23/11/2006 18:26

hee hee

How occasional are the breastfeeds? Not every day?

FrannyandZooey · 23/11/2006 20:40

In theory twice a day, but at weekends and evenings I am often out, so sometimes only once a day or occasionally not for a couple of days

He just seems so sad when there isn't as much as he would like I don't want it to end this way

StrangeTown · 23/11/2006 22:42

Evening everyone, well have had a proper catch up on the thread, you have all been so busy...Papillion and Tatties, am loving the pumpkin recipe, can't wait to try it - thank you. Nigel is so camply fantastic, I love his recipes even when I don't like stuff in them.
Greensleeves, so sorry to hear you and your DS's have been ill - it sounded really traumatic, I hope you are all well on the mend now.
And the Puddle(s) ill as well, we are not exactly selling this healthy eating lark are we?
I just wanted to own up to something here too...some of you may start thinking, my goodness, how self centred that woman is, she never mentions her family at all. Well, I don't have any LO's at the moment. I know, I'm a fraud.I lurked on Mumsnet whilst pregnant, but then had a miscarriage a couple of months ago. I have found it to be such a support I haven't weaned myself off. I will be TTC again as soon as my 3 months is up, which is why I want to get healthy. 1000 apologies for hijacking this thread with this, but I really wanted to explain.

Back to real purpose, done OK again today. Got to 8. I can't get past this...my body just gives in and demands biscuits.

1 win, 1 loss so far this week at netball [grin}.

PS Overrun - being 35 is lovely.

Thanks aviatrix it is great to be home and have my boys sleeping safely upstairs.

I like Jamie Oliver

FrannyandZooey · 24/11/2006 08:48

Strangetown we are very glad to have you here and I wish you all the best TTC. We will be expecting you to win both matches next week, you know, with your improved healthy eating. It is fine if you want to eat biscuits, nothing is frowned upon on this plan, just get your 10 a day as well.

Overrun I am 35 too and feeling happy about it. Too old and wise to worry about stupid things, too young to feel tired and past it

I have been just about managing the gym 3 times a week although I can see it being hard in the run up to Christmas. I love this time of year but sometimes it gets a bit overwhelmingly busy.

puddle · 24/11/2006 09:30

Hello everyone! we are a bit weak and poorly aren't we? I am feeling dreadful today after a very broken night with ds who was in my bed from 1.00 this morning with a bucket! Puddle jnr is no better and can't even keep water down at the moment - he i s so skinny normally that just one day of not eating makes his ribs and backbone jut out .

Didn't do very well at all yesterday - couldn't leave the house and have run very low on f and v - I have now realised that one of the keys to success for me will be to plan ahead and make sure I have plenty of fresh stuff in the fridge and fruit bowl.

Welcome strangetown and best of luck ttc. I am sure that being in tip top health wll help you.

Overrunnerbean · 24/11/2006 10:01

I am now accustomed to being 35 and I have stopped sweating about it. I am probably sweating out real ale if the truth be known, as went to a beer festival last night. Managed to fall out with my sister AGAIN, but thats a different thread.
papillon, lol at your suggestion about Frannys dp, you could always try and express a bit I suppose, but thats such a faff, and it sounds like you just don't have enough time as it is. I think that feeding them first thing in the morning is good for supply. It encourages your body to make milk over night iyswim Thats actually the best feed that the dts have, probably cos they are hungry and it is in a routine. I suppose thats the other thing to suggest, to feed at same time of day, I know you haven't tended to do this, but it would probably help in this situation.
Strange town, lovely to have you with us and good luck with ttc
I like Nigel, and am coming round to Jamie again, didn't like Happy day with the Naked chef, but have just been given "Cook with Jamie" for my aforementioned birthday, and so far so good. It has a v yummy sounding creamy butternut squash recipe, that I will try and post if it is any good.
So far today, just museli and a banana and some pear juice.

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 24/11/2006 10:02

oh god have just read all greenys thread

will now go and stop feeling sorry for myself

hope its all better greeny. Eat lots of chocolate

Overrunnerbean · 24/11/2006 10:05

Oh and puddle, I guess if we are all so unfit, we are the ones who particularly need to get our ten a day , thats how I am looking at it anyway.

Hi, so far today, museli, 2 bananas, 2 apples, pear juice, avocado for lunch with tomato and cucumber salad and rest of spiced cauliflower. Fell flat on my face for tea, as just too tired to cook and veg to go with breaded fish. Oh well, can't all be perfect.
Tatties, the spiced cauliflower was as follows.
Cut cauli into florets and blanch for 5 mintues in boiling water, then allow to steam dry in collander.
Meanwhile dry rost some ground up corriander seeds and cumin seeds and dried chillies, then coat cauli in spices and oil and a bit of butter if you want and bake for 15 minutes or so. Jamie also recommends chopped flakes of Almonds to go in with spices, sorry forgot that bit. I just boiled the potatoes.
I'm sorry I didn't see your message earlier, we have been out, I expect that you have eaten dinner now

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 24/11/2006 20:37
