Dear MNHQ why does this board exist?

Having the board encourages people to think that not vaccinating is a valid viewpoint.

OP posts:
bruffin · 05/04/2015 09:43

Why don t you just come out and say they have had their immunity tested rather playing your silly games?

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2015 11:48

Not a silly game. Thought it was fairly obvious. Clearly not to some!

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2015 12:13

Much more 'fun' to repeatedly accuse someone of lying apparently...

bruffin · 05/04/2015 12:23

and you wonder why so many people dont get your so called neutral agenda

CadMaryzCremeEggzAreASwizz · 05/04/2015 12:33

bruffin et al - you do all know that you are absolutely wasting your time on this thread.

fwiw I agree with the op - this topic has become useless because most sensible people have hidden it due to the single topic drum-bangers. So any first time parent looking for advice on vaccinations is very likely to get skewed and dangerous advice on this board.

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2015 13:00

Bruffin - yes, apparently if you don't insult people and accuse them of lying - either about their child having a disease or about their child having a bad reaction to a vaccine then you MUST be anti-vax. Excellent logic.

Not true MaryZ - which you would know if you read the threads. No one is 'banging an anti-vac drum'. As I pointed out just up thread most people on this board do vaccinate - even if it is occasionally on a slightly different schedule.

CadMaryzCremeEggzAreASwizz · 05/04/2015 13:32

Disingenuous, that's the word. And totally unaware.

Personally I would prefer straightforward insults to passive-aggression.

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2015 14:01

I think you're being a bit passive aggressive there yourself MaryZ.

I'm not being disingenuous - some people just want to think that and there is little I can do about that. Regardless of what some posters write some people are determined to think they are anti-vax. I am very aware of that.

CadMaryzCremeEggzAreASwizz · 05/04/2015 14:14

That's because, sadly, I'm not allowed to tell you what I think.

I'm hiding this thread now, as I have hidden the entire topic (I only saw it because it came up in Most Active), which sadly many sensible mumsnetters have done.

For what it's worth, I think you have almost single-handedly proved the op's point. This board is simultaneously redundant and dangerous.

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2015 14:42

I have no problem with you telling me what you think. Chances are you're very wrong about me - just as you are wrong about this board being 'dangerous'

The OP's point was that this board encourages people to think that not vaccinating is a valid choice. Not sure how you think I have 'proved' that. Many people who do vaccinate themselves have come on and said that it is a valid choice because here in the UK vaccinations aren't mandatory and most people agree that it should stay that way. It's a shame that you can't see that. Even more of a shame that you can't actually discuss it but just post and hide.

Anyway, as has been pointed out several times now (not just by me) most people on this board do vaccinate so what is 'dangerous' about people asking questions and looking for information/advice/experiences of others?

shewolfroar · 06/04/2015 20:34

yes... (I am simply replying to the ops post and not the in between)...it does encourage open conversation and questions about vaccinations. if anyone is so blind as to not question anything they do that would be a real worry for society. don't be a sheep. question. many doctors, nurses, medical professionals question vaccinations. Some don't vaccinate. make your own mind up but don't judge. what is it to you if some people don't vaccinate? if you believe in vax then your child will be protected. ..right? let others do as they wish...and when they offer an opinion why jump on them like you want to pound them into the ground? boy. ..there not falling into line makes you so mad. ..better look at that...

Alyosha · 08/04/2015 12:40

Fascicle...

Sorry for leaving this so long!

"don't think your suggestion would ever be put into practice here, and not without exemptions. I think it would conflict with important principles of medicine, law, freedom of choice etc. But for the sake of this hypothetical argument, I'll ask again: on medical issues, would you be happy to let another authority make medical decisions for you, that you might not agree with? (Imagine if there was no freedom of choice in labour, for example, and women were obliged to accept certain standardised procedures, drugs etc. Would that be ok?)"

The entire issue here is that we disagree fundamentally on whether or not denying state education to those who are not vaccinated is "letting another authority make decisions for you". I don't think it is! If you don't want your children to be vaccinated, you would simply have to accept that that meant you would need to make alternative educational provision for your children. It would be difficult, and expensive, but then so is getting a vaccine preventable illness.

Aridane · 09/04/2015 20:28

Did anyone see last night's Law & Order: SVU?

Very interesting - good drama.

What started off as an underage sex party / selfies taken at said party going viral on line swiftly became about a measles mini epidemic among the c. 15 year old children Caused by a the queen bee MMR refuser mother. And a prosecution for reckless endangerment.

I won't reveal the outcome here - but for anyone wanting to watch, it is episode 19 of season 16. The episode is called 'granting immunity'.

CalicoBlue · 11/06/2015 23:06

Because it is a valid viewpoint. How can it not be?
