For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Well that happens to me and I have NEVER smoked - what must that mean?

FrannyandZooey · 25/10/2006 07:33

Just linking to the other thread where people are saying it's a sign of asthma

hello! tatties can I second that it was a superb post! was about to reply and then stuff happened, as it does.

have bought proper hardcore running shoes and am currently dying the wool to knit me an mp3 player holder (this is important) Once this is done I will be off running again ourside. Am fed up of the gym, it is somehow depressing.

have eaten bllx all veg-does pesto count? Other than that, just bananas. my mum is staying and she doesn't do healthy eating really (is always on a diet ) so thats my sxcuse. And am trying to cut caffeine which is appalling, but I feel so shit right now anyway that I reckon its actually quite a good time.

tracyk · 25/10/2006 10:23

Is it not the air conditioning at the gym F&Z?

FrannyandZooey · 25/10/2006 13:20

Filly cut down slowly on caffeine or you will feel beyond terrible for days...

Caffeine withdrawal has been classed as a mental disorder, it is so severe

Tracy I don't think it is, no. It has only started since I have been doing this time thing on the rower, and going like the clappers to try to beat my own time. And it only starts when I'm on the rower.

Oh, superb post btw Tatties

FrannyandZooey · 25/10/2006 13:22

Oh and Filly am at a hand dyed home knitted mp3 holder

as you damn well knew I would be. I have a belt thing for mine which dp kindly bought me but I look like a nob wearing it

Greensleeves · 25/10/2006 13:25

That is the ultimate techno-hippy accessory

Franny, are you planning to do anything about this putative asthma? I might mention it to my GP.

I have not had any fruit or veg yet today, but am drinking lemon tea.

FrannyandZooey · 25/10/2006 13:32

YES I AM GOING TO MENTION IT OK

erm I would let yours recover from your current round of afflictions before you broach the subject with him, maybe?

How is it today, anyway

and stop pretending you are here to count fruit portions, you are just lurking because the rest of the board is boring

Greensleeves · 25/10/2006 13:36

It's true but you can't chuck me out, look!

my poor intercostal muscle is a bit better to day, it still hurts like a bastard but I have a better range of movement. DH has hopes of going back to work tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 25/10/2006 13:38

This is the best thread on the board, it's true

It was the only thread capable of coaxing Filly out of her hibernation

Sometimes when it's a bit quiet on here and I am just talking to myself I like to revel in that fact

Tiptoes in swinging Butternut pumpkins. Franny I think you need to leave a note with your trainer about your ragged breath - he might be able to help

So I think we should all be focussing on pumpkins and mandarins the two imo big fruit and vege of the current season. Pumpkin soups are so easy to make, curries, with polenta.

Tomorrow I babysit at a gym which gives me membership there. One morning a week. Hope I am well enough to make my first day though, the cold gremelins are double trouble atm Off to bed!

Papillon · 25/10/2006 19:14

where's my bed gone?

don't worry Franny I seem to be talking to myself too And this cold is making me crave chocolate

confessions of solitary poster

zzzzz

Tatties · 25/10/2006 21:00

Papillon, I have just sent dp out for chocolate too (G&B Maya Gold though )

Had a look at the asthma thread Franny - the sore throat thing I get after exercising doesn't sound as troublesome as what you describe, it would never have occured to me to see a doctor about it. Let us know how you get on.

And Filly, what do you mean - GRIM WEST YORKSHIRE?!

TooTickyTheAppleBobber · 25/10/2006 21:15

Franny, because I'm basically a bit nosy, can I justwarn you to be wary of conventional asthma treatment... some people may know that I am a bit of a classicalhomoeopathy evangelist but truly allopathic treatments are not good in the long term and blue inhalers made my heart race so scarily that I gavethem up before I'd found an alternative. Andhomoeopathy is fab anyway. Have had TrulySpectacular results relating to asthma and other things. Unfortunately have not had my sticky space bar treated. Will now remove my nose fromyour business

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 26/10/2006 10:53

what do I mean by grim west yorkshire, tattie?

Why castleford, of course

are you seriously, even for a moment, going to argue that castleford is not grim?

(are you a yorkshire lass? I do love yorkshire very very much but it is the epitomy of grim. Do like a bit of grim though)

Greensleeves · 26/10/2006 10:59

It is indeed "grim up north".

Overrun · 26/10/2006 11:00

Franny, can I also say, you should probably get it checked out on the asthma front. I say this as someone with severe Asthma, who has lots of throat problems, not just chest.
Massive stir fry with load of zingy dark green veg last night, left overs for lunch today I think.
Apple and museli for breakfast today, oh and a banana.
Can't exercise atm, as Asthma is bad due to a nasty cold I have picked up. Often feel my lack of exercise excludes me from this thread. Tell me this isn't so..........

Papillon · 26/10/2006 11:08

aviatrix I woke up this morning feeling the onset of Sinus problems, took some a homeopathic remedy for sinus infections... works really well.

Did my babysitting duties at the local Womens Gym this morning. went really well and they have a dance class which looks very good - so I am stoked Managed to get a invite to a kids xmas party while there, from a woman I know - it seems to be the social hub place to be!

Eating many mandarins - anyone eating pumpkins and want to share recipes????

FrannyandZooey · 26/10/2006 12:38

Ooh lovely to see you all so full of chlorophyll

Thanks all for comments on asthma, I will get it checked out. Next week maybe. Am going to the gym tonight so will see how I get on - felt coughy and sore throaty all day yesterday, but fine today.

Have people staying which makes fruit eating harder to remember for some reason, but have had melon, apple, pear and raisins so far today, will go and grab a bit more now.

OP posts:
Tatties · 26/10/2006 14:50

lol Filly, no I'm not your auntie

Indeed I am a Yorkshire lass (dp refused to believe this though when he first met me, thought I sounded too posh Hardly...) Never been to Castleford though so I couldn't possibly comment on its grimness

Papillon, I have a great Nigel Slater (god I love that man) recipe for a pumpkin curry - I have found the preparation a bit lengthy and laborious, but it is DIVINE. Would you like me to post it? Also think I might have a pumpkin muffin recipe in my cakes & bakes book. Would you like that too? (Haven't tried it myself though)

FMF can sense people saying mean things about her home county!
(You think it's grim in yorks? try Northumbria where me and the half-moons are currently holed up for the half term! I have to keep leaving MN to go and whip the hamsters into running harder to work the computer. And it's feckin COLD!)

My bit of yorks is very rolling hills and pastoral lushness, combined with terrribly stylish yummy mummies (of which I am not one ) driving chelsea tractors.
