What on earth does DH have if it's not chicken pox??

Dh has come home from work with spots all over. He says they started this morning and have come out more over the day. I have just examined him and they look like chickenpox (based on my experience from our three kids when they were small). They are small red spots that seem fluid filled and some have burst. All over his front, back and arms. He feels a little under the weather too.

But here is the thing. He has had chicken pox when a child. He is 45 now. Our three children have had chicken pox over the years so he has been exposed many times and not had it again. No one we know has chicken pox now.

So if it is not chicken pox, what else could it be? What is similar?

Or fleas.

Can't be fleas as we don't have pets and have not visited anyone who does have pets.

I thought viral rashes were not blisters like chicken pox?

My DH got chicken pox at 35 off the kids, even though his motehr is sure he had it as a child.

It could absolutely be chicken pox again, it certainly sounds like it.

Just googled shingles. He has no pain and it is not localised to one side. All over like chickenpox.

I've had chickenpox twice, once at 15 and again at 29, both times confirmed by a doctor.

Hmmm...ok he is going to the GP tomorrow when they open. Can't imagine where on earth he would have picked up chickenpox though. He is no around any children expect my own and none of them have had chicken pox for years!

You can have chicken pox twice. It is also possible that what he had as a child was not chicken pox.

GPs generally prefer not to see people with chicken pox at their surgeries, unless there are complications it might be simpler to wait and see how he goes.

Perhaps someone at work/on the bus/train has poxy children. It's so easy to catch.

Shingles is usually one sided I think but not exclusively but if he hasn't got the burnt feeling then probably unlikely as you say

Has he been to Madagascar recently? They've had outbreaks of the bubonic plague Shock
It is entirely possible to get chicken pox twice, especially if you were very young or had it mildly the second time. My DD has had it twice, so don't rule out CP just because he's had it once.

He can't just wait this out. He needs to be at work. So he needs a doctor to tell he him what he has and whether he is contagious. If it's just a random unknown rash and not chicken pox, he needs to go to work. If it is chicken pox, he will of course stay at home.

Is it hand, foot and mouth disease? The rash sounds like it and it does get mistaken for CP.

Hand foot and mouth. Unpleasant in adults, might feel shit for a day or two but after that should feel better but look unsightly.

There's a few trains of cp so you can have it multiple times.

I had it at 19 & it was vile so he might not have a choice about going to work.

Thought hand foot and mouth was exactly that. My dh caught it off the dc. Was really sore spots on palms of hands, feet and inside his mouth.

DD had hand, foot and mouth all over (confirmed to be that by the dr). The dr did say it was one of the worst cases she'd seen!
