What on earth does DH have if it's not chicken pox??

Dh has come home from work with spots all over. He says they started this morning and have come out more over the day. I have just examined him and they look like chickenpox (based on my experience from our three kids when they were small). They are small red spots that seem fluid filled and some have burst. All over his front, back and arms. He feels a little under the weather too.

But here is the thing. He has had chicken pox when a child. He is 45 now. Our three children have had chicken pox over the years so he has been exposed many times and not had it again. No one we know has chicken pox now.

So if it is not chicken pox, what else could it be? What is similar?

Dd has had CP twice now. Dh never caught it as a child in spite of his siblings and cousins having it. He caught it at 42 from our ds. I think if theylook like CP then they most likely are CP tbh. Get him to go to the GP and get some anti virals dh was really ill when he had CP.

I checked the hand foot and mouth information andi don't think it's that.

He hasn't even had a cold or anything which I thought preceded chicken pox or any virus.

He did just remind me that he was at a hotel/conference centre for a couple of days mid week last week for work and he did use their swimming pool daily.

Scabies?

goodasitgets · 10/02/2015 22:40

Hmmm ok this is weird Grin
I have this too. And recently used hot tub. Doctor had no idea, Google suggests hot tub folliculitis
Mine are like tiny acne or blisters

Goodasitgets- it looks very similar to yours. Maybe not as many spots though.

He is seeing the GP later this morning so hopefully will know more.

I forgot to say - he did not use the hit tub or spa. Just the pool.

Be interesting to see what doctor says. Mine didn't have a clue

Wiifitmama · 11/02/2015 13:01

GP says scabies caught from hotel last week. But I have read the NHs website and it doesn't fit at all. I am sending him to our local walk in centre later for a second opinion.

Scabies is usually skin to skin, you'd be hard pressed to catch it off bedding.

Wiifitmama · 11/02/2015 13:14

I agree. The GP he saw us the one I refuse to see as I think she is incompetent. Hence me sending him to walk in this afternoon. He is already applying the insecticide cream but I refuse to as I don't think it's scsbies and I have no spots. He is washing all his clothes and bedding as a precaution.

If he wants a third opinion, the NHS says the Sexual Health Clinic for Scabies. They will probably be more used to seeing it. You are supposed to get red lines with it, and more of it in creases, armpits etc.

It does sound more like CP. My DD had it twice.

With regard to hot tubs, a GP told my friend (where the whole family got a rash) that you could get syphilis from hot tubs. I have had a look on several websites, and they specifically say you cannot get it from hot tubs Hmm. Some odd GPs around.

goodasitgets · 11/02/2015 14:26

scabies does sound odd
please update if you get any further!
mine is still raised up, almost like little blisters in centre or whitehead type spots
used dettol soap and hydrocortizone cream which seems to have made it less red

Wiifitmama · 11/02/2015 16:05

So he has now seen a competent Dr at the walk in centre who said it is NOT scabies. Which I knew! It is folliculitus which is inflammation (or possible infection) of the hair follicles.

Awesome Grin as that's what I've been treating mine as!!

BonzoDooDah · 13/02/2015 22:23

well spotted (!) GoodAs!

goodasitgets · 13/02/2015 23:02

Taking bloody ages to go away Sad
The spots look smaller, not itchy now and less red but still loads of them

FoodieToo · 14/02/2015 16:46

Dh had what we thought was chicken pox but it was guttate psoriasis.
