You may or may not have spottedfrom another thread that Essbee's DS is in hospital with kawasaki disease. He still has a high temperature, is very tearful but being quite brave. His lips are still too sore to drink/talkbut they're trying to do without the IV drip so he's trying to take sips although even a straw is painful.

Should anyone fancy sending him something to cheer him up, (and having quizzed essbee) apparently the new version of "Shoot Out" cards is out now and he got quite into it last season - was gutted when the cards finished IIRC.

So sorry about the guinea pig - you've only had it 5 minutes haven't you? Poor ds, another crao thing to deal with. Is dd ok?

Was hoping to pop over and see you one day this week. Any idea what days are good for you? (Ha ha!)

Love PT

ok, that's good. I've just emailed her. She's quite a good source on research too. I remember her telling me that they had stopped collecting case histories, but I don't know why. Also just found out my local hospital have misdiagnosed another 6 children since they misdiagnosed my friend's ds. The same team. To make a mistake once, ok...to make it 6 more times??????????

Clarinet60 · 04/11/2006 23:14

Don't know if I told you this before Essbee, but one of my first lectures in the first year of Uni was on kawasaki's, and how it should be suspected first if a fever would not subside after so many days. That's why I was so shocked about my friends misdiagnosis. We were biological science students, not medical students, but it was really drummed into us.

OMG, drugs to the guinea pig as well? As if you had nothing else to do...!

I've got to take dd into Wonford on Monday for her audiology appt and then get her back to school, so probably not Monday (we have to come back in for swimming after school too). Tuesday or Wednesday maybe?

Keep hanging in there, my dear (or my loverrrrr as they say down here). Found another pack of Shoot! cards in my bag, think I know who they belong to! Will see you very soon. Am off to bed now, hope you get some sleep. Pt x

Yes, I did see the bit about them thinking it was tonsillitis. The scary part of that post was 'they know it's tonsillitis because his throat has got yucky stuff on'........ It must be so awful for you. So glad you persisted and he got the gammaglobulin within the critical time period.
Thinking of you,
xx

Glad he's still on the up essbee.....sorry about Munchie though

Hello Droile It's a disgrace that there have been so many misdxd children. That said, when ds1 had scarlet fever, Kawasaki's less problematic relation, it was my mum who diagnosed him. The GP who'd I'd seen him the day before confirmed it.

Clarinet60 · 05/11/2006 21:29

Have contacted my friend now, she says it often recurs and needs re-treating, anything up to a year from the first signs , but this didn't happen to her ds. The support group in Coventry is the best one to tell you about research and lack of funding, etc - she strongly recommends this one.

Hi, essbee Glad you've had a nice evening!

What time did you last take his temp and when did he last have aspirin/paracetamol/ibuprofen/whatever else he's allowed?

Airy · 07/11/2006 00:27

Hey stranger You are having a hard time arn't you! I would get myself a cup of coffee firstly just incase, and then recheck in half an hour, if it's still up I'd call I think.

Let us know how he is

xx
